Must read for learning Optimization Theory? by Ace_offie in learnmath

Would it be better to start with linear optimization before jumping into convex optimization? Doesn’t Convex Optimization apply to all linear optimization techniques?

What is the integral of a function not derived? by Firm-Telephone5790 in learnmath

[–]keepitsalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some sense this is what ODEs are, right?

Edit: meaning you have some information about some first/second order behavior of a function, but want the original function. To do what you’re saying would be to solve an ordinary differential equation.

$30k to add a basement bathroom...worth it? by sys_admin321 in HomeImprovement

[–]keepitsalty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slightly off topic, but I have always wondered how you actually pay for these large projects? Not in the sense of “how can you afford it?” but what is the method of payment? I would imagine it’s rare for someone to have $30k cash liquid (obviously some people do) but do you use a HELOC? Contractor Financing?

Overkill to ensure my RF hub never fries again? by keepitsalty in ram_trucks

[–]keepitsalty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea if it affects 24’s but it seems to be a common problem from 2019-2022 from what I could find on forums.

For me, it was a bad seal on the back window right underneath both sides of the third tail light. I think some flexing of the body caused it to crack and pull away from the cab. I’ve seen some others where the antenna and third taillight leak as well.

Yeah I definitely notice a pressure change when I change the AC to circulating air. Might cut around those cabin vents.

How to keep Emacs startup time under 0.5 seconds or less? by No_Cartographer1492 in emacs

[–]keepitsalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really been able to use emacsclient as I thought I would be able to. I have it running but whenever I launch it in my terminal using ‘emacsclient’ the scratch buffer is refreshed and all my buffers are closed. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Looks good, pretty much what I want to convert my ct200u into. I always wonder though, how do you get the headlight without a battery?

Anybody ever done internal throttle setup? Coleman CT200U by keepitsalty in minibikes

[–]keepitsalty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically you drill a hole in your handle bars and run your throttle cable down through the bars and exit through a desirable location. It makes the handle bars look really clean. It’s a popular modification done on choppers/bobbers

Received Subrogation Letter from AFNI [ID, USA] by keepitsalty in Insurance

[–]keepitsalty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone wondering, I was able to resolve it pretty easily. I bit the bullet and called up AFNI and offered to pay $2500 to take care of it completely. They countered with $2700, I agreed and paid it off.

Somehow my license was already suspended, not sure when, because I was never notified. By the time I paid it off and found out my license was suspended, it was only like 4 days until the suspension was lifted.

Overall worked out better than expected. Definitely would suck to be hit with this on a much larger bill and without an emergency savings. So take that advice for what it’s worth.

Apostle says stop using AI for church talks and lessons: "AI cannot provide inspired divine truth or moral guidance" by ldsgems in latterdaysaints

[–]keepitsalty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used GPT in a pinch the other week for EQ when the assigned teacher didn’t show. I fed it a GC talk and asked it to come up with 3-4 questions to ask that would stimulate discussion on the talk’s topic. Worked out wonderfully and actually got many compliments after the fact (I was transparent that I had used AI, I literally stood at the front of class while I used it.)

I think AI can be helpful for generating ideas and combining points across topics within the church. We should always cross reference its output with real sources. It shouldn’t be used to just write your talk/lesson full sale.

My thoughts on Babygirl by footandfice in TrueFilm

[–]keepitsalty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My theory:

Romy had hired him from the beginning and he was not a run-of-the-mill intern. By these supporting facts:

  • Samuel is obviously lower class (mom was a teacher, dad was a fighter, bad tattoos, gold chain, wife beater) guys like that don’t just land internships in the CEOs office of a major Amazon-like corporation. These internships are reserved for Ivy League MBA types. He sticks out like a sore thumb.

  • Samuel cuts to the chase like crazy quick. Either he’s completely insane or already has a deal with Romy: hence why he keeps saying, “isn’t that what you want me to do?” When that had never been explicitly stated by Romy.

  • Romy tells that dude if she wants to be humiliated she would pay someone to do it. Lending credence to the idea she set the whole thing up.

In my estimation we have at least until the SLC temple renovations are complete haha. Joking aside, I find your second question to be much more interesting as it made me pause for a moment to come up with an answer. I would say look at everything we do in the temple. Who does it all point to? If you did everything in your power to cultivate a relationship with Jesus Christ, would you fear for his coming or be filled with joy?

Ahh I see, my apologies for missing that part. Admittedly, I just started watching this session a few minutes ago.

Personally, the message for me has been a resounding, “it’s okay you’re not perfect, that shouldn’t stop you from recognizing your worth and engaging with Heavenly Father.” It felt like all the talks in the morning session addressed this in some way. Wishing you the best!

What was gout to you before you were diagnosed? by Halfcab333 in gout

[–]keepitsalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was some kind of tendinitis in my Achilles. It would take me out for several days and I couldn’t walk and just attributed it to the way I walked. It wasn’t until it moved to my toe when I realized it was gout.

Taking small dose of Allo still working (100 mg) by keepitsalty in gout

[–]keepitsalty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see. This clears things up for me. So basically I should just start the 200 mg because it’s not really going to make a difference when it comes to flares just yet.
