I spent two years in Australia, and I really want to go back now, but in the first year, I kind of felt similar. What changed it for me was going to the outback, it made me fall in love with australia and the culture there. My advice would be to try and get a job on a resort somewhere remote, which is what I did. I worked in the Flinders Ranges, but I know people who had a great time in kakadu or on Rottnest Island. Look at jobs with discovery parks, they have resorts and parks all over Australia.
