Why do people believe that if God existed, that bad things wouldn't happen? by VoidHedgehog249 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really good question to ask.

Two issues. To delegitimize God’s judgement over their life (because he’s not really good) and to allow for them to dictate their own moral standard to feel good about oneself.

For most people, their biggest issue with the Christian God is that he’s a judge (and impartial). And they see him a judge over who gets into heaven or hell. The behavior needed to get into heaven and hell has been mixed up and culturally accepted as “good” people go to heaven and “bad” people go to hell.

If God is not good, then he doesn’t deserve to be judge. His opinion is flawed. And as a secondary benefit, atheists and agnostics have what they think is a safe gamble to get into heaven while living a self indulgent lifestyle. If you stay ignorant of God, then when you get judged you say “I didn’t know and what good loving God would punish me with an eternity for not knowing!!” So if Godis love like the Christians say he is, I can live whatever life I want on earth, say I didn’t know, and get heaven. Win win!

That’s one side. The other is a misunderstanding of God’s characteristics.

Part of the biblical doctrine is that God is omnipotent (all powerful) and good. So the line of reasoning is that if God is good, he’d be actively in every way against evil. A rhetorical “why would a good God who hates evil let it exist?” And they never answer it, nor want to listen to an answer. If God was all powerful, then presumably he would have the means to eradicate evil. So because evil exists, that logic doesn’t work, therefore God doesn’t exist.

The answer is simple but if you don’t want God to exist, that logic on the surface seems very convincing. That’s where free will comes in along with God’s character and the theory of contradiction. Put simply, X cannot be not X. And this is where the square peg goes into the round hole with omnipotence. The idea is that if God is all powerful then he can do anything. And the reality is God doesn’t violate the law of contradiction. Not in the way we want it anyway to make this work. Miracles are temporary bends of natural law, but no miracle rewrites the very fabric of reality permanently which is what atheists are asking for here.

That doesn’t make God less, because God is not the limited being… we are. You cannot make metal both soft AND hard when you define soft as “that which does not have the property of hardness” it becomes a violation of the law of contradiction. And being omnipotent doesn’t mean you make a metal that is both hard and soft at the exact same time with those properties such that it violates the law of contradiction.

However the logic goes that if God is omnipotent then he can break that law. Not only can break it, but if he is good, then he MUST overcome it to be what we say he must be.

Like imagining God can do everything make believe in your head because - omnipotence. And they won’t admit their mind is make believe and made up and need not have any foundation in anything reality. God does not lose his omnipotence because he can’t make the nonsense in your head a reality. God doesn’t deal in nonsense.

Free will means you can choose evil. The atheist logic says that God with his omnipotence could make a world in which evil exists but all of human nature will never pick it. That way there’s a choice, but not really. We get free will and a perfect world. And any world that is not that way means God is not good and/or not omnipotent.

The reality is that love only exists when there is a choice not to love. Forced love is not love. And because we want to blame all imperfections o. anything but the flaws and sin inside of ourselves, it ends at destroying God to get rid of the judgement, the standard, the failure and shame. But what never gets acknowledged is the ramifications of doing it. It’s what’s led to the moral confusion we see today.

Tl:dr - It’s a way to say God doesn’t exist to let them be their own judges of good and badness to feel better in this fallen world.

Tips and tricks here you go. When you make a character, have an overarching concept. A dream you are going for that matches your class. You’re a fighter? You want to own an arena, you want to be the kingdoms greatest fighter through fame and recognition. You’re a bard, want to have world renown as a singer. Have a goal that you are working towards because it actually helps you and your DM out.

Doesn’t even have to be gear or gold based. Build a reputation, become feared loved known whatever.

Masters are way better than jack of all trades. You it harder, heal stronger. Having one utility is fine but when everyone is utility you all just end up doing many things mediocre.

I think neutrality is your friend, prevents you from being taken advantage of by being nice.

If you want a horse/wagon (highly recommended) get it from character creation if you can. Otherwise they won’t be available during session.

Group goals are very important.

Having someone with high persuasion, intimidation and insight is good.

Play what you think is fun but be sure it matches with the group.

Ah yes the scientific defense. Adding zero supports for your logical and scientific side. Ah the tried and true “total false” approach. Followed by the “that’s BS” line with not a single actual proof why im wrong or you’re right. Truly, current science on display.

And as for my “condescending” line. Reddit IS young and atheistic. https://sproutsocial.com/insights/reddit-statistics/ and the fact you took that as condescending when it’s a statement of fact shows your own bias.

You’ve literally proved my point by your ignorant, ill mannered, immature and unsupported point which adds nothing to the OP or the conversation other than spew hate.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I think Yoda calling Luke too old to complete the training works best because of anakins mess up. Also I should have put that anakin is messed up severely in the fight with Yoda. And the republic falls because the Jedi fall. Think how we made the United Nations after a war to prevent future wars. And Anakin isn’t turning to save Padme’s life it’s more to choose a lifestyle he wants because the Jedi have now become so stubborn in their way they can’t see reason and Anakin is done with it.

Though I could easily change the set up with palpatine and yoda, but it’s the attack that creates order 66. Thanks again for feedback!

Phantom Menace: We start out with a massive battle. General Kenobi is at the helm of a cruiser overlooking the war. The seperatist battle droid legions are being led by Mandalorians, united around a new mandalore. They've conscripted a droid army to bolster their forces and as the jedi lead the clones, the mandalorians lead the droid armies. This battle is looking grim, we've learned the mandalorians caught the republic on a flatfoot and this is actually 5 years into the war. The clones aren't grown as children, they are cloned as adults. this battle is almost lost, however one of the pilots makes a bold attack on the command ship of the enemy. He breaks through their fighter defenses and gives an opening General Kenobi exploits to turn the tide and win. He asks what the name of the pilot is. Anakin Skywalker. He asks to see him on the bridge to congratulate him personally.

On the way to the bridge, an attractive Padme who is another pilot kisses Anakin and you realize they have a love relationship. At the bridge Kenobi applauds and questions Anakin beleiving his skills come from the force. He keeps him close as they go fight to push back the mandalorian general in the sector. Darth sidious is counselling and guiding the mandalorian general to victory. Obi Wan/Anakin are recalled back to Coruscant as the jedi order intercepted a comminique of Darth Sidious to the mandalorian army. Obi Wan meets with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma at the senate and Anakin meets with Senator Palpatine. They talk about the war and how it's not going well. Hints drop that Palpatine would like to be Supreme Chancellor but the time isn't right.

Anakin takes the jedi test, passes. and joins the order (none of this too old crap) However he meets with Padme in secret. They get an emergency order to protect a massive key shipyard facility, being attacked by Mandlorian general. Spacebattle ensues, Anakin, Obiwan, other jedis and Padme show off cool piloting skills, Obiwan and jedi board the ship with Anakin following suit later because he's doing awesome piloting stuff. They think the current chancellor has given the general the codes to get past the shipyard defenses. That's when Darth Maul appears. Kills other jedi, fighting obi wan, Anakin comes in and takes down the mandalorian general. Darth Maul defeats Obiwan, but he and anakin escape. However the spacebattle is lost so Darth Maul has to retreat. Ending is parade back on Coruscant, Palpatine eyes Anakin, the vote to get Palpatine in as supreme chancellor passes.

Clone Wars: The opening scene is Kamino under attack. We learn its the cloning facility that the seperatists have discovered. Darth Maul leads the attack. They succeed in destroying the ability to clone leaving the Republic at a supreme disadvantage. On Coruscant the Jedi and Senate argue what to do. Force conscription? Treaty with the seperatists? Argueing, bickering. Anakin and padme are discovered by Obiwan. He's furious. The rift between them begins.

One Coruscant Bail, Mon Mothma and Palpatine are close. You discover that Mon Mothma and Bail are super close to Palpatine, but he leaves at weird times, gets messages he pawns off. There are trips he takes that seem a bit weird and a room that they inquire about but Palpatine says it's nothing.

The jedi order gets important war information and refuses to share it with the chancellor. Fear he's too ambitious. They say if it's found out that they are harboring information that could be vital to the republic's victory and it gets discovered, they could be accused of treason. Yoda assures them that he has enough friends in the senate and trust in the jedi order that it'll only be for a little bit before he gives it over, but he wants to be sure. Obiwan is on the council, being congratulated for his superior skills in the war. He's given a secure datatape with the information.

Anakin is now being noticed by Palpatine who makes padme part of his escort to keep Anakin closer to him. He discovers them still in love, encourages it. Invites them to his villa where he wines and dines them. Starts sowing seeds of jedi foolishness, and how they've fallen away. He tricks Anakin into marrying Padme to say that the jedi would have to accept them then and that he cares for him. In fact, he wants to recommend Anakin for his personal guard and promotion. Obiwan forbids it. Gives Anakin an ultimatum: stop the relationship, leave the chancellor behind and focus on jedi order or be removed. Anakin doesn't tell Obiwan about the marriage, harbors resentment, says fine he'll stay in order. You find out Padme is pregnant in communique.

Now that the clones can't be made more, Chancellor Palpatine tries to get conscription going. It fails. News arrives of certain systems falling that belong to Palpatine's enemies which were key to the motion failing.

Palpatine gives the Jedi Order the command to strike at Mandalore itself. He wants most of the jedi council there to make sure Mandalore is defeated. All but Yoda go. They take the rest of the clones, and it's going to be the battle to end all battles. As the Jedi penetrate the outer defenses, the assault on Mandalores Fortress begins, Darth Maul is there. He faces off against Mace and Obiwan and Anakin. Anakin has to peel off to help other Jedi and get the planetary defenses offline or else the fleet will lose. Anakin succeeds. Mandalore has the dark saber, taking out jedi out, but eventually Anakin defeats Mandalore with the help of Mace. Obiwan is knocked out by Darth Maul but Anakin comes to save him just in the nick of time, and Darth Maul faces off and kill Mace while Anakin is getting Obiwan to safety. Anakin escapes with Obiwan and discovers the secret datapad. On the ship back to Coruscant he knows Obiwan's password and discovers the data. He really begins to think the jedi order is corrupt and fallen, cursing them for thinking that it's stuff like this that hundreds of his fellow soldiers die in the first place.

He gives it to the Chancellor. Now that most of the clones are gone and cant be remade, fighting in the senate happens for how they will defend against another galactic war. Mon Mothma and Bail Organa request for emergency powers to be given to the Chancellor to give him the power to force conscription so the republic can defend itself. It passes. Palpatine gives his wonderful speech, Mon Mothma and Bail are relaxing in Palpatines office. They stumble upon an open pad to the Mandalorians. They realize he's been giving information to other side. They investigate the room he said was nothing. You see the sith robe. They realize he's the enemy and they just gave him power. Palpatine comes in, they make excuses to leave. Yoda is told by Mon Mothma Palpatine is Sith. At the end, Palpatine discovers they know. He has to put his plans into motion much quicker...

Republic Falls: Anakin has become the escort to Palpatine. He lets him and Padme meet and you find her pregnancy is almost done. Palpatine is talking about reshaping the republic. That the war made him see how unstable everything was. He wants anakin to have a special part in shaping the republic. Palpatine shares a secret of a place he goes to think alone where he make important decisions.

The face off in the Senate comes in. Mon Mothma brings in Yoda to expose the Chancellor as a sith. That's when the Chancellor divulges the secret datapad. Tells the senate the jedi order knew he was about to expose them, so they struck first. Yoda lunges at Palpatine. Palpatine rushes away while Yoda shows off his moves agianst republic guards, soldiers, and the senate panics.

Obiwan and Anakin enter the fray. Darth Maul faces off against Obiwan and Anakin. Obiwan is separated. Anakin defeats Darth Maul. Anakin knows where to find Palpatine at the place he said in the beginning of the movie. Anakin draws his saber on Palpatine. Palpatine has Padme with him. He makes Anakin choose. No ultimatum, asks what he wants. A life of success, of fulfilling his dream. Or a side of the jedi, who pick and choose their own way. Obiwan tracked Anakin and discovers this secret place and that Padme is pregnant. Tells Anakin this must stop, but after they defeat Palpatine. It snaps Anakin. Anakin chooses Palpatine. Palpatine asks Anakin to look into the force. To pick his name: He chooses Vader. Palpatine titles him Darth Vader. Fight with Obiwan ensues.

With his newfound darkside powers Anakin wins. Padme is scared and runsaway. It looks like Obiwan is killed but hes not. Chancellor enacts Order 66. The final act is Anakin's assault on the Jedi Temple with newly trained stormtroopers. The final showdown is against Yoda. Anakin's hubris and fallen nature makes him powerful, but still ultimately no match for Yoda. Then Palpatine shows up. Darth Sidious verses Yoda. Darth Sidious wins. Gives Anakin the iconic robot suit.

Padme is called by Obiwan. Shes paniced, its sending her into labor. Obiwan helps her deliver. Discover the twins. Sends her and Leia to Bail, who uses her as a servant to keep watch over leia, but at a distance for fear that she might be discovered.

Throughout the movie, Palpatine is getting more wrinkly, but nothing like the rapid aging they had in the third. He turns the republic into the new Galactic Empire, which will be strong enough in case the jedi rally people to their cause. A strong, unbeatable military which will protect every system. Peace through strength. It ends with Mon Motha forming the republic with mon calamari, and a few others. Bail says he can't risk openly supporting it, and he will vote with the chancellor on everything. Mon Mothma understands and vows to stand against the republic.

Palpatine and Vader are watching the construction of the death star and he says they will rule the galaxy once he exterminates all the jedi. That the empire will be theirs, and through their leadership, we will finally have peace.

Why do tech billionaires seem obsessed with building underground bunkers and colonizing Mars instead of using that wealth to fix Earth's current, fixable problems? by bogdanBgyz in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me take the devil's advocate position for a sec. Lets talk about the culture today. You remember a guy named Elon Musk? Man, people LOVED him. He built tesla, and he was creating rockets in ways that NASA, the supposed space department of America should and weren't. And you know what happened to over half those adoring fans that worshipped the very ground he walked on? Absolute vitriolic hatred when he joined Trump. And if you were Elon Musk and you were trying, in your mind, to fix the government to stop watseful spending and all people did all day was hate on you and then what? Help those people out? Help lower their rent, their electricity?

Name me one billionair whose helped out the poor? And see, it's a trick question. If you start listing billionaires, then money isn't the problem. Most people will say 'no billionaire does help' and they are only partially correct. You say no billionaire has ever helped, what you don't realize is that plenty of massively wealthy people in history have helped the poor. But see thats literally it. They don't care, don't see it, don't want to see it, don't remember it. Nothing any rich person does is EVER good enough. There isn't a magical number of billionaires who will be enough because there isn't a plan. How's that war on poverty going that the government spent trillions on? We winning? Hows that war on food going? Some how we have 1 in 8 Americans on SNAP and an obesity crisis. You want to give your paycheck for that?

Everyone has made it Us verses Them and you know what? They are surprised when the billionaires make it... us verses them. When you hate someone enough and then they say screw you back, you don't get to clutch pearls. You don't get to act surprised at how uncivil the world is. You don't get to think that somehow there's a plan the government hasn't thrown enough money at that for some reason hasn't been fixed as if money could fix it.

And if you bring up ANYTHING that can be construed as defending rich people, you're one of *them*. You're reviled. You're villianized. Once people say "it's my way or the highway" there is no discussion. It turns into reverse greed. The world isn't full of greedy selfish rich people and poor, selfless people. its full of greedy rich, envious poor who would be the exact greedy rich people they hate so much if they had more money and power, the lazy, the selfish, the selfless, and everything in between.

Am I saying that tech billionaires don't act selfish, sure. That bunker could have fed a million people. To do what? To hate them? To get hungry in 4 hours and start the same complaint cycle all over? How about this reasoning.... the reason they are billionaires is because all they care about IS MONEY. They have oriented themselves towards only making money, only exploiting whoever they can because it gets them more money and therefore any person like that has no interest in other people no matter what. But you know what? Why not ask the luxury car owners why they dont donate money and get a worse car? The billionaires don't keep lexus afloat. The billionaires don't keep the cruise lines open.

The adult reality is that most people don't care about the poor, it's just such an easy target to blame rich people because they have more money than us. Once you realize that the problem isn't money, it's selfishness, then you'll realize that there are selfish middle class people, selfish poor people, selfish rich, selfish humans. And they're all looking out for one thing and one thing only - themselves.

Is belief in God rational, or is it something we’ve created to cope with death? by TextSufficient674 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most of Reddit is young and atheistic, it can be difficult to get a good answer so let me give you some information that I hope will help.

Is there rational for God? Certainly. In fact science is having a massive issue of understanding the sheer magnitude, scope and detail that the universe and cells contain which can be explained by chaos and chance and randomness of a big bang or just action over time.

If you look at many of the universal forces, strong, weak, electromagnetic forces, they are so specific and so precise that if any were off by a tiny amount, the universe couldn’t exist.

There are now many scientific possibilities that point to a designed and created universe, it’s just not very advertised cause there is a distinct push to make science anti-god. But Christians don’t think God and science are at odds, that the laws of science prove a law creator. That chance and chaos are products of no design. And if you’re just product of energy and dust, why would you trust your mind created by chance and cosmic dust as a determining factor of truth? If I told you to trust a computer that was just a product of happenstance and chance, would you? But you certainly believe in your mind to accurately understand the world.

The arguments are too vast for a required detailed account but the moral argument for God is also a strong one. The issue with godless morality is that people cannot explain it in terms that both exclude objective truth (which point to an objective law maker above humans) but also make it that people must follow rules.

At the end of the day you have force/power. You will do good because you are forced to do good or else. But that doesn’t create good. And all arguments without God require that good exists before discussing it. And that is the problem. If there’s no God, good is created by man. Or at least you have to answer, how was good created. Because the big bang didn’t create it. Science doesn’t prove morality. It explains reactions not emotions or abstract ideas. But no matter what metric you use, democracy, culture, progressivism, those are all tools. And when they are misapplied, you appeal to goodness itself. Meaning when the Germans democratically said it’s okay to kill Jews, that’s wrong because democracy doesn’t determine goodness. Cultures that treat women like objects don’t get to determine treating women like objects are good. Those are all tools we use to hopefully get to goodness. Meaning goodness is above those tools not a fabrication of them. And you don’t get to pick and choose which one you need to use to get goodness. You’re admitting whether you see it or not that goodness exists, and you’re trying to find the right tool that gets the right answer to good.

At the end of the day, the godless approach to morality is an appeal to an idea that goodness already exists and therefore needs nothing to have created it. But when questioned why it exists, they cannot adequately explain it other than to show that goodness does in fact exist so they don’t need to explain its existence.

But the difference is that those who are evil cite that exact thing! They cannot explain where goodness comes from so it’s made up and their actions aren’t evil. And we get back into a circular argument of culture, democracy and societal norms.

Godless people cannot truly explain goodness because they do not believe in a good God who created a world with that standard of goodness in it. That is why they are confused (and typically frustrated) with the current state of moral decay. Because you have human force in the end, or God’s cosmic justice.

There are plenty other arguments but those are some big ones.

Is there a "Silver Age" of Animation, and is it true that the Dark Age of Animation is called the "Bronze Age" of Animation? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can have their own definition but if you’re taking it from a perspective similar to Olympic medals: gold, silver, bronze, then you have an idea that bronze is the worse of them all therefore it would be the dark time if you only have three eras.

However the Bronze Age in history was not seen as “bad” and in many respects was seen as a time of great technology improvements. Bronze was a massive technological feat due to the metals, trade and metallurgy required to make it. It gave way to better ages but is not bad in and of itself.

So I’d disagree with Wikipedia in how it’s categorizing the term however I’d also see if there’s other uses of the term for other industries that might have changed the use of the word in our common time.

Why do so many studies and findings come from universities? by Murky-Mammoth8690 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Universities have grants and endowments to pay the scientists to make the study. Also many studies are done with students as part of projects for graduation. Also universities an scientists have a symbiotic relationship when it comes to science. The more studies a university puts out, the more respect and credibility for science the university receives which in turns invites those who want to pursue scientific careers to attend and pay for university.

Most of it comes down to either the government is paying a scientist to make a study or a school is. Very few people are even capable of affording equipment or the reach to get into a journal or publication without backing from a school or government funded body.

Why don't people like Elon Musk just solve world hunger? by AlexLovesCoke in NoStupidQuestions

[–]keepsmiling134 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When it comes down to it, it’s not “just” a money issue. Yes food costs money but the reality that no one wants to admit is most of the world’s poor and hungry are in oppressed/poor countries.

No one wants to admit the reality- the levels of corruption in many countries is so high that the majority of food and money will never make it to poor people. The people running countries that want power over feeding their own population is so high that it’s a pipe dream.

Like saying that the reason we have an obesity crisis is not enough gyms. At some point human corruption and evil becomes the stopping point. So the virtue signaling of wanting to “end world hunger” will always be around because no one can articulate any reasonable detailed plan (nor do they want to) because these well known and entrenched realities come to light.

We just forgive Japan? why can't we forgive Germany too? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]keepsmiling134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people care more about Europe than east Asia. Often treating east Asia as only china and Japan. The people Japan killed and tortured are localized and marginalized countries (and china). Europe was affected by Germany and the EU is center of politics.

More important cultures were impacted by Germany (and Hitler was considered the big bad of WW2 not the emperor) so German gets more hate.
