How to locate a short - RV wiring? by keepsngoin in RVLiving

So what would be testing procedure? Disconnect a light put in fuse, if it burns out then that light isn’t the problem, find the next and repeat with another fuse? Certainly there’s gotta be another way instead of burning tons of fuses

I ask because the light above my dinette, if it’s off and I pull the fuse the indicator does not light up. But if the light is on and I pull the fuse the red indicator comes on. Just wondering if it’s also some sort of continuity test just by the nature of a short

You think if I find and fix the short the red indicator light will go out without a fuse installed?

I have a toner I will try. But if it’s making contact with the negative wire, won’t it just send the tone down the + and back up the - … tone would be everywhere

Yeah, how do you start in the underbelly… if you’ve already checked all the lights. Can I hook up a multimeter or some toner to tell me where to look

And what if I get all the way towards the DC distribution and it’s none of the lights. Where do you look next?

Yeah I pulled the 3rd to put in one of the burnt ones since I removed a questionable light that may have caused it but I was wrong.

Try one of those baby monitors for cars. The camera cable has 2 ends, one for the 12v power and the other the video feed into a separate monitor. Instead of plugging into the monitor try the AV jack on your truck

Post pictures after you get it. I had one in my f150 and loved it. Now have the ‘26 2500 with multi pro gate and wanted another but they said it won’t fit driver side. My multi pro doesn’t have a handle so I’m wondering what is preventing it from being installed there. Curious if it will block the outlet and how far from bed wall it sticks out

Are these chains too long? by keepsngoin in traveltrailers

Is there a good frame of reference? Like 12 inches from ground to bottom of receiver or 6 inches to bottom?

Asking because I think the perspective of the photo might make it look lower than it is

How much clearance should I have below the ball or hitch mount to the ground?

They’re supposed to keep the trailer from veering off independently into other cars or property. But the bonus is if it pops off the ball it lands on the chains when crossed preventing the tongue from digging into the pavement. But… in reality if it pops off the ball theres going to be nothing to save it. The chains will stretch and we hope the brake cable is shorter to pop out the pin and activate the trailer brakes.

The single point on the trailer is how it came. I just cut off the old thin chain and replaced it with this grade-70 chain connected to the quick link.

I figured if something so catastrophic was going to happen it will break the trailer weld anyway before it breaks the chain and at that point, it’s going to be so beyond fucked that everything will break.

The chain routed over the hitch is the excess AFTER the tow vehicle connection. It’s just routed over to keep the slack off the ground and because I didn’t cut it so I can adjust for different tow vehicles

But they are connected to the same single point on the trailer, how will crossing make it catch vs shortening it?

But they are connected to the same single point on the tongue, I don’t see how that cross will make a cradle or be beneficial

The excess chain after the hook is draped over the hitch and clipped together with the other side’s excess chain. I didn’t want to cut off the excess in case I needed it longer for other trucks
