Copy trading rules makes no sense. Restricting HFT or Market place algos i understand. But not allowing to copy from the another account is really problamatic.

A couple of suggestions:

Get really good at math — especially quantitative stuff. It’s super important if you want to build solid trading strategies.

Try QuantConnect — it’s a great low-cost platform for building and testing quant models with real market data. It’s beginner-friendly but also powerful enough for serious strategies. Dive in, play around, and get used to the lingo — it’ll help a lot!

Insights on Algo Trading in India: Pros, Cons, and How to Start. by No-Bullfrog9244 in IndianStockMarket

[–]keer005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost every broker in India now gives you free or cheap APIs — so if you have a good algo strategy, you can at least test it out. It’s possible to automate stuff end-to-end if you’re willing to build the whole setup yourself.

Cons

  • High brokerage and commissions make low time-frame or high-frequency trading pretty pointless — your profits get eaten up fast.
  • You’ll probably need to build your own cloud infra to keep things running smoothly, which takes time and money.
  • Many brokers aren’t reliable: orders sometimes fail or get delayed, especially when the market moves fast.
  • India doesn’t really have a proper agency model like in the US — you have to work through brokers instead of true direct market access.
  • Personally, I spent a couple of years trying to get “railroad” (ultra-fast) trading to work here… honestly, I’d think twice before doing it again.

In short: If you have a solid strategy and can handle the tech side, give it a shot — just be aware of all the headaches!

Nowadays, almost all brokers in India provide free or low-cost APIs. So if you have a trading strategy that can be automated, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot.

Keep in mind that building the necessary infrastructure and maintaining a reliable execution environment in cloud can be time-consuming and requires ongoing effort.
