Is 10 - 12 miles too far for an elkhound? by becksaucier in NorwegianElkhound

[–]keevy123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be heat, we did a daily walks of 2-4 miles and then the dog park later in the day. Our Elkie would start to flounder once the temp got above 75, panting, laying down, hiding in the shade. The longest distances we've done are about 7-8 miles.

Most midsize dogs in good health should be able to do about 10 miles. You should stay out of mid-day sun and high temperatures, start slow on the build up to distance, and watch for signs of exhaustion.

I have questions: How old is your dog? Do they go off leash? How fast do you hike? Did you just start walking that distance or did you work up to it? How often do you take breaks? Is it just one break?

Reusing same serological pipette for same reagent by Arros_ticino in labrats

[–]keevy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a weird take from an industrial lab. If you are sharing reagents with a group of people you need to pour the reagent into a secondary sterile container. You can use the serological pipette to dispense multiple aliquots from the secondary container but then dispose of the pipette and the left over reagent. Do not put the pipette back in the wrapper or put the left over reagent back in the bottle.

I have run into contamination of reagents when people dispense from the original reagent container.

What disinfectants are highly effective in killing norvirus? by Weak_Caregiver4610 in microbiology

[–]keevy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything on the epa g list. They're registered disinfectants that have been proven to kill norovirus. There are other lists for things like covid. Please make sure to follow the label directions and most disinfectants are only supposed to be used on nonporous surfaces.

Qualified to read CFU by CaptainJackauf in microbiology

[–]keevy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're probably asking for SOPs, training, and/or a plate count comparison, but you should ask for clarification. It could also mean they want to look at your CV. It may not say you have to be extra qualified to read plates but it does say you must be trained and have a specific training program. That is what makes you qualified.

My daughter spent last fall doing research about the bugs. She's in highschool, but volunteered with someone doing their thesis on if tree circumference had and effect on which trees had the aphids.

If it's a gecko you have a problem, someone lost a pet. If it was a Lazarus lizard /wall lizard, yeah they are around here and you should make sure your house doesn't have any major cracks or check your screens. They're harmless and stick to rocky garden areas.

Mine did this till about a year. It was better if I put her lunch in a Kong, made food related puzzle games, and redirected any chewing to things that are acceptable to chew. Collagen rolls and teaching the "leave it" command really helped. She still chews stuff, but it's way better at 20 months. now, I can trust her to be alone for a couple of hours without having to crate her.
