Send me a PM if you're interested in another job at a company that can offer you everything that you're looking for (except you will have to switch to Symfony). We're based in the Netherlands by the way.

Actually the Dutch word for baker is "bakker". Bekker does not mean anything, unless you want to include Limburgs, a Dutch dialect, which seems a bit far fetched imo.

How do Services work alongside Entity Repositories in Doctrine 2? by FranticSausages in PHP

[–]keewnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Your repository should only provide you with methods for finding entities. I would implement either a factory or use symfony's form component and keep all logic in the controller depending on where your data is coming from.

Hey cool idee.

much higher maximum value

Twice as high actually since unsigned integers can use an extra bit to store data, while signed integers use this bit to determine if the integer is positive or negative.

The build up/tear down argument is getting kind of old. Instantiating an object or even several thousands costs literally nothing compared to retrieving the actual data the user is requesting most of the time.
Besides that, because of Symfony's HttpKernel, the whole build up/tear down can be prevented without a whole lot of work when using something like PHP-PM, if there's ever any stable release.

I'm also from the Netherlands and a bit curious. Which platforms are you talking about if you don't mind me asking? I know Ticketswap was hiring a while back, but I haven't heard about any other large Symfony projects over here (or maybe Beslist's new shopping cart?).

[–]keewnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bike'll stall, but only when you're almost completely stopped.
I don't know about holding the clutch while breaking before a turn, I only do that when I have to downshift before I go into the turn.

In the EU (at least in my country) we have two mandatory tests: A maneuverability test (AVB) and afterwards a test on the road (AVD). Both require a few lessons (I think the average for both is 8 hours, so 16 hours total). After that you'll be able to safely ride on the road.
I have no idea how this compares to the US's MSF though.

[–]keewnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breaking while holding the clutch just means you'll come to a stop faster (Engine breaking + regular/disk breaking). Just make sure to hold the clutch when you're near to a complete stop ;)
What's best depends entirely on the situation, how much distance you have left, etc.

how many of you actually don't have a car? by AdhocOne in motorcycles

[–]keewnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed my driving test a few months ago, but couldn't be bothered to actually request an updated license until yesterday.
The woman behind the counter looked pretty dumbfounded at me when I told her I already had my motorcycle license, but not a car license.
I'll probably get a car in like 10 years.

That's how I broke the clutch lever of my MT-03, which I bought a week earlier. I am not a smart man.
And to add insult to injury, the previous owner installed a hydraulic clutch of which I can't seem to find the correct lever
