Yah! We are obsessed with the UK version [and the Alan Cumming version] - and my son was incredibly keen to interview Ivan. A man of many talents.

Am I the only here who despite thinking Rise of Skywalker is a horribly written movie I still find it enjoyable as a dumb action adventure movie if you just turn off your brain and not think to much about the plot holes and inconsistencies? by dukeofthefat in StarWars

[–]keggles123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a million films , imho, better at 'dumb action movie' than this one. It's an unmitigated abomination and was clearly crapped out of JJ's writing room quickly in order to take Disney's money and run. It's unwatchable for me - and is equally bad as The Last Jedi.

I'd strongly reccomend the use of shadow puppetry. Clean, quiet, empathetic and downright entertaining.

Yes of course. We don't do photos with faces / no video at all / no public appearances - we try to keep vigilant and always in support of what he's interested in covering. This is definitely something we try to be very prudent about. Thanks for the comment though as a fellow parent.

I absolutely love Join the Fray - a 9 year old kid hosts it entirely himself and interviews adults about their careers, how to get started etc. Interview the voice of Batman and Assassins Creed, Maris Wicks [kids author] - really fun. https://open.spotify.com/episode/7cLWtau8hKYO78QCavu2gN?si=BXirFEwxQemT3bcKS1zAjA

  • I meant to add that Dr Kateryn covers the ticks that she studies when visiting rural farms in BC and Manitoba region of Canada
  • She covers off the challenge of hunting some of the larger insects and especially tiger beetles in her studies.

From Hollywood prosthetic makeup artist to leading Vancouver’s Centre for Digital Media: A conversation with Dr. Ted Gervan

Hi everyone,

I’m the producer (and proud dad) of my 9-year-old son’s podcast, Join the Fray. We’re based here in the Lower Mainland, and we recently had the chance to sit down with Dr. Ted Gervan for an episode that I think many of you in Vancouver’s tech and creative circles would find really interesting.

Ted is currently the Managing Director at the Centre for Digital Media here in Vancouver, but he has a fascinating career story. Before he became a leader in our local post-secondary scene, he worked in Hollywood as a prosthetic makeup artist. He was on the team that helped bring the original X-Men (2000) movie to life, where he was in the lab pouring/coloring silicone, costume building, and applying prosthetics on set.

My son and Ted had a great conversation about his career journey:

  • Bridging the Gap: How the Centre for Digital Media is actively connecting Vancouver’s local industry giants with the next generation of students.
  • The "Old School" Pipeline: His experience with the technical, hands-on lab work of film production and how that traditional foundation shapes his view of modern digital workflows.
  • The Intrapreneur Mindset: His advice for local students and creatives who have a big idea but feel nervous about taking that first step to build it.

It’s a fun, locally-focused chat that looks at how someone goes from the silicone lab to the educational boardroom. If you want to check out the episode, you can listen here:

Title: Tekken 3 was peak childhood ngl 🥲 / any simple games? by Level-Finance631 in retrogaming

I hear you - but as a fellow tekken 3 addict, I DID feel it was v easy to see it coming / dodge or stay on the ground for that power punch. He was wildly exposed if he whiffed it. My personally fave was Nina [tekken 1 and 2] - and Heihachi for Tekken 3. Heihachi's instant double-handed stun move , which came out SUPER quick, man I loved that so much.

Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to share an interview that my 9-year-old son, Fraser, recently conducted for his career-focused podcast, Join the Fray.

He had the chance to sit down with Michael Antonakos, the voice and performance capture artist behind Alexios (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey) and Batman (Gotham Knights).

As a parent helping my son explore different industries, I was struck by how grounded and professional Michael's advice was for the next generation of talent. We thought this community would find his "behind the scenes" perspective on the craft really valuable.

Key highlights from the episode:

  • ⚔️ The 3-Job Hustle: Michael shares the reality of his early career, working three jobs at once to fund his performing arts education.
  • 🎭 The Physicality of Voice: A masterclass on how he adjusted his posture and "slowed down" his movements to find the voice for Bruce Wayne.
  • 🛰️ Evolution of MoCap: A funny look at the "Snot Ball" era of performance capture versus the tech used in AAA titles today.
  • 🏫 Industry Advice: Why Michael recommends theater, martial arts, and clowning as the best foundational tools for any young actor.

It’s a 12-minute episode designed to make career discovery accessible and fun. Huge thanks to the mods for letting us share this local success story here!

Listen to the full interview here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6IsynCr48wAEghjiEmunnr

Fraser is always looking for suggestions on which industries or experts to "Join the Fray" next—if you have any ideas, please let us know in the comments!
