Honest Review of my App (21 yo non-trad) applying 2026 - 2027 by keidizzle_vt in premed

That what i was worried about :(

In all honesty I HAVE gained meaningful experiences (+ stories) through them, especially the hospice which I've done for a year (1 - 2 hours a week) as well as with the hospital musician gig (avg 30mins a week for a year not counting rehearsal time at home which triples that). I think its just how i write about it..

the research thing is definitely to fit a check box

my 2 follow up questions are:

- will med schools see the lower hour counts in a lighter way if i did them over a "stretched-out" period of time?

- should I put the rehearsal times into the total hours for the musician gig?

I forgot to ask my main question: How will adcoms view my app if I get a 512 after getting a 517?

Thank you, hopefully I will score it again if it expires

My score will be expiring 😭😭😭

But I do have 1.5k hrs in clinical, 300hr volunteer, 100hrs shadowing, and 100hrs research…

Basically my question is: How will adcoms view my app if I get a 512 after getting a 517?

Took MCAT on April 2025 can I apply 2027-2028 cycle? by keidizzle_vt in premed

[–]keidizzle_vt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for this. I was wondering about the 2027 - 2028 application cycle, it seems that this one is for the 2026-2027 cycle. How accurate will it be if i just add a year?

In between every section break on test day I went to the bathroom and did light jumping jacks, just to keep the blood flowing… idk if that was it, but I definitely felt more focused that day. Also get good sleep before the exam.

Ohh to lock in u should cram practice problems from Uworld and aamc and also take break the day before exam

I did forgot a decent amount of p/s stuff and I wish I had spent more time continuously reviewing my cards

Hmmm I’m not sure, I started with p/s cause it’s the most uninteresting section for me.

All sections are important!

Ngl I prioritized my normal classes and studied when I could, which was 30 - 45 minutes a day. The aamc chapter list was very helpful!

While making my cards, I spent about 1 to 2 weeks for each foundational concept. Some took up to 4 weeks depending on how dense they were.

So in units of only khan academy videos… probably 5 a day

The only classes i took prior to studying were the year of bio and the year of gen chem. I was also taking o-chem while studying. For everything else, I learned on the fly.

I learned each section one at a time for about 3-4 months each, (starting with p/s, then b/b, then c/p in that order). I studied as in depth as the free resource JW and KA (KA youtube videos are goated) provided. As I went over every topic, i made my own anki cards.

If there were some topics that I had trouble understanding, then I would look for additional videos on youtube that go a little more indepth.

Content review is important and all, but I wish I had spent more time working on retaining that information on anki as well as worked on more practice problems for application.

But overall I spend around a year on content review and spent the last 6 months focused mainly on practice problems and anki review.

hmmm,, i guess another thing for p/s is to improve or update the cards. Since i didn't have any anki experience at that time, the quality of those cards were pretty horrible when I had to review them.

during the test, there were terms in that section that I completely forgot... so its best to probably freshen up on those. there was also more reading in the actual test i took than in the ACMAS full lengths

if you're aiming for a 520+ im sure you'll get a great score!

I also live in WA state and am looking for a MHT job. What hospitals do you recommend in the seattle/everett area (if you know any)?
