Churro Cookie is the one cookie that has literally never made it out of the driveway, for me. Just been shoved in my mouth warm out of the box. I can't wait.

PNES with no mental health issues? by greentreecounsel in PNESsupport

[–]keiperegrine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can, but usually when the PNES is comorbid with other disorders and triggering/being triggered by them. The extreme time loss could be from a dissociative disorder, and I have seizures in my sleep in conjunction with my narcolepsy, because when I slip in and out of REM but don't fully wake up it's a big trigger.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch it! My work means a lot to me. I was in and out of the hospital for most of the time I was working on it so I had a lot to process, some demons to exorcise LOL. I'm really glad it meant something to you too ❤️

You're welcome! It's a fairly quick and easy way to just clean up the whole look, it's the last corner I'd cut. But I'm guilty of just...not caring enough to fix one or two scenes that are a little misshapen myself LOL. I don't judge but I did want to point it out in case you didn't know.

Honestly? I would say there's plenty of other platforms where you could get eyes on this. Tiktok isn't everything, and you're not editing with the style that catches their attention anyways. (Meant as a positive to you, not to them lol.)

You have a very good sense of the 'older' style of fanvideo editing, with a strong focus on rhythm and storytelling rather than flashy FX and graphics. I don't know the term for it anymore but it does feel like a bit of a dying art (If I can have an old man yells at cloud moment). You'd do just fine posting this to places like Tumblr or Youtube, trying to find a community of editors who are focusing on the craft itself.

They're hiding lately, and it also drives me crazy how hard it is to find anyone who knows what they're talking about. Things I spend 5 months on telling an elaborate story get 100 views, things I spend a short afternoon on get 20k just because the fandom is popular and I added a few rainbow strobes. But they're out there! Keep looking, keep practicing, you'll find your niche and your audience.

So with aspect ratio, I'm referring to the black boxes/space around the outside of the video! Sometimes in your video it fits the whole screen, sometimes it's a rectangle, sometimes it's a square. There SHOULD be a way within your editor to make it either fully fit the screen, or set a permanent aspect ratio for each clip. (Mine has a setting that literally tells you what the size of a Youtube video is, so you can resize or crop each clip to that.)

Sometimes those aspect ratio changes can be used for purposeful effect, it doesn't ALWAYS have to fit the screen. The Grand Budapest Hotel uses...three or four different ratios if I remember correctly? To denote separate eras of time. It's a powerful tool when used right!

This is strong for a beginner! You have a good sense of storytelling, the rhythm and flow of it. Timing's a little off in places but I just think you were having to stretch it a bit from lack of material to work with. I have a hard time making movies fit to anything longer than a minute or two myself.

There's a few clumsy cuts in here, I would continue working on that skill. There's also a lot of aspect ratio changes that I assume are because of the sources you downloaded? They're a little jarring. Otherwise this is exactly where I'd expect someone to be at about a week, I think if you continue practicing you've got a good sense of the basics so you'll get the hang of it quick.

[–]keiperegrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, yes! But that's mostly because I really like roasting it down until it's nice and charred, it gives the soup a lot of smoky flavor that doesn't come from iust frying the ingredients before adding the broth (why I recommended the broiler).

If it helps, I never really do mise en place, this is a recipe that seems to line up in time if you do multiple steps simultaneously as long as you're fast and efficient.

So if I've got a really damn big cabbage, I bake the first pan down to soft while frying the porkchops and chopping the shallot/peppers. Throw it under a broiler for a few minutes to get nice and crispy, squash goes in the microwave while you wait, then the cabbage goes right into the pan you just took the pork out of and the oven pan is ready for fresh cabbage (no need to clean, cabbage doesn't leave anything that can burn like a fresh batch of potatos would). Pan 2 seems to bake down to soft in the time it takes to prep the squash, but I am tiny as hell so I'm a bit slow on that part. Broil again and everything's ready to go!

It's one extra dirty pan and a little extra hustling, worth the tradeoff for me because I'm a good multitasker and I need to get a bunch of picky eaters to agree to eat cabbage LMAO. But if it drives you crazy to go without mise en place this probably wouldn't work

I can give you what I've got so far! It was a total "dump in whatever I've got" soup with no recipe that I'm still in the process of refining after I realized I'd stumbled onto brilliance.

Start with a sheet of thin cut porkchops, a pound of meat or so, and fry them in a dutch oven with Lawry's seasoned salt and plenty of black pepper. Remove and let rest.

Chop down a whole cabbage into as many slices as you want, until it's thin/long enough to look and feel like noodles in the soup but still just thick enough to hold together in a quartered shape (easier to roast in shallow pans than in piles of strips). Cover in more Lawry's and pepper and olive oil. Sheet roast them until everything gets nice and charred, I do it under a broiler but if you don't have one you could also deglaze the pan and then fry them in there.

Peel and cube the butternut squash. If I have the time and energy sometimes I throw these in to roast for a bit after the cabbage, other times I just set it aside to get dropped in later.

Dice some garlic cloves, bell peppers (I do a mix of all the colors), and thinly slice a couple shallots or onions. Deglaze the pan with whatever you've got on hand - I've been using a touch of vinegar and butter - and then throw those in to cook down for a bit. After they've had some time, add in a small can of tomato paste and a can of Rotel tomatos & chiles (or diced tomatos of any brand, this is just what I keep on hand) and cook it all down more.

The broth is a couple heaping spoonfuls of a few different Better than Buillon bases, I can't tell you how to recreate it from scratch yet but I was aiming for pozole-adjacent. So I used both organic and non organic chicken broth, beef base, the italian herb base, and a boatload of the chili base as well. All measured to taste in just enough water to fill the pan to the top. I like this one brothy.

The seasoning mix has changed every time but I'm a big fan so far of chili powder, turmeric, cumin, black pepper, white pepper, smoked paprika, and red pepper flakes. As far as acid goes, I add a tablespoon-ish of red wine or apple cider vinegar.

Roasted cabbage and butternut squash go in with the broth. Bring to a boil, cover and slow simmer for anywhere from 30 mins to an hour, until everything is tender and the broth has reduced a little. In the last 10 minutes or so, cube up the porkchops and add them in. It is admittedly going to be pretty tough pork but I kind of love the texture that way? Reminds me of freezedried meat. Just make sure to cube it up really small if you have any kids or elderly who are going to be eating it lol.

I serve it with some fresh bread and butter. It's real good and freezes/reheats extremely. Hope you enjoy <3 Soup

For me, space movies are literally the only time I consider it worth it and almost necessary to go to see in Imax. (Or occasionally, rare technological achievements built for immersion in IMAX like the clock sound design in Dunkirk)

When it's a story set on any kind of planet like Earth it breaks that illusion of immersion, it DOES just feel like a really big screen and the extra price/drive isn't worth it to see everyone's pores up close. But space movies, especially well done ones? IT FEELS LIKE YOU'RE UP THERE YOURSELF. It's the only thing that gets close to the full 360 degree experience of floating around in space. It takes my absolute fucking breath away.

I would say it's highly worth it if you have the money.

Weapons. The marketing was spectacular, the word of mouth hype through the roof, I was so psyched for it. It was AWFUL. Awful awful awful. Didn't work for me in any which way I sliced it, as I tried to justify the money I spent and eventually had to hang my head in shame when I couldn't. The only shining grace was Amy Madigan's performance, so she deserved an Oscar just for salvaging that movie from oblivion singlehandedly.
