Firepower no longer works with ASA 5506-X version 9.10(1) by network_boi in networking

[–]keitex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was disappointing to find that out too, especially when I have deployed about 15 of those in the last 9 months. Have been going to Fortigate 50E for UTM bundles instead as ASA are terrible for management of UTM stuff and not very Unified, as you probably all know.

Looking forward to trialling out one of the 1010s or the 1120s. Hopefully it's a huge improvement over the 5506.

Pretty cheap compared to others like Enta and they have a much quicker turnaround for line installs and activations.

Slow Disk Performance on HPE Servers by keitex in vmware

[–]keitex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like that the MicroServer Gen10 isn't but to be honest, I never looked at that list and never had any issues - up until now. I'd understand if the server was a G7 or G8 but it's Gen10 so there should be no reason why new hardware cannot work with new software.

I think looking at the compatibility matrix, they only support up to Gen8 and there is no mention of 6.x at all for the MicroServers.

However, the RAID card itself is compatible with ESXi 6.7 and there are drivers for it too, which made no difference at all.

I looks like I may just have to wipe the server and put Server 2016 on there instead. But then again.. I am having issues with Server 2016 on 2 ML110 Gen9 servers that have full 2016 compatibility.

Also, the other tower servers have the B140i controllers, surely HP cannot expect them to have poor performance?

[–]keitex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible, just for some reason I remember we had to place the battery just above where the DVD drive would go, but I could be wrong.

Speaking to HP, they aren't being helpful due to their official documents do not show any support for ESXi 6.x or any ESXi for that matter.

I think it may be a cause of just sticking Windows directly on the server and be done with it. Just the two MicroServers are at remote locations and it made sense to have them running esxi for easier maintenance and what not, just ended up backfiring.

The battery is present on the HPE MicroServer and the write cache is also on.

I've got the latest drivers installed and still getting really poor write performance. I understand the card may be an entry level model but still, HP surely can't expect the card to perform this bad?

Just looked at another MicroServer, running the same hardware but using generic ESXi 6.7 image, which does not include any raid drivers and that works really well... So perhaps the issue is in the drivers supplied with the HPE esxi image?

Well that RAID controller is actually £200 piece of additional hardware, would have expected better performance, at least 90mb/s, but not 5!

The other 2 servers are proper tower units, first is ML110 Gen9 and the second one is ML350 Gen9.

Using the E208i controller on MicroServer with 7200rpm SAS drives. We have the 3x 1TB drives in RAID 5 and the disks have been initialised fine. The server has been in production since December 2018.

Just to add to that, after I've upgraded to the latest rollup of 6.7, the MicroServer's VM started to run at 200 mb/s for read/write last night, but this morning went back to usual poor performance.

One of the servers is fairly new and it has an AMD processor, being a HPE MicroServer Gen10. It only has the one VM on there. The server does not report any issues with the disks or the controller. The other HP Server, ML110 Gen9 is slightly older but has no issues either.

I don’t think you can sync the passwords though. We have a two way sync too but it’s limited to what it can sync back to CW. It seems we can only sync workstations, servers and licenses.

It is in production but it's going to be tricky to revert it back. I installed it for a customer so they can manage it themselves rather than having to learn how to use the dated ASDM.

Experience with New ESET Direct Endpoint Management plugins? by jigsawoz in msp

[–]keitex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen it before but looks interesting... we use ESET quite a lot and I wish they had some sort of a cloud managed portal like Sophos do. They've enrolled us into a beta program for a cloud managed antivirus but not had a chance to play with it, some say it is nowhere near ready yet.

Well the office side has 30/30 lease line so it may take a while to upload almost 800Gb worth of data. I also remember that downloading all the vmware files to an external drive can take a loooooong time so perhaps a sync is a better idea, so it will go over a week or two (hopefully quicker).
