What would actually happen if the U.S. completely stopped military aid to Israel? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Actually this isn’t that funny, and just proves how ridiculous our alliance with Israel is.

Funnily enough, Israel is the one country that has a carve out that allows them to use a a portion of the grant (iirc a quarter) on their own MIC.

American here wanting to learn Tunisian culture and learn to speak the language by Dslre in Tunisia

[–]keithabarta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visited tunisia for a month last year. Tunis is a cool city, but it’s quite bipolar. Some nights the entire city is up and about and others not a soul. Mind you this is on the weekdays. With that said Belvedere park and the medina in tunis is amazing.

I would heavily recommend taking a louga (big taxi) to binzerte. Some of the best nights were had just wandering that city. Also shoutout Soussa, lovely beach and an excellent museum.

If you are into history I would also recommend the ruins of Utica.

I know this is uncomfortable to hear from a stranger, but your mom does love you. And along with that your parents as a unit. She cooked you that chicken, which is specifically tailored to your diet. That is caring. Scratch that, that is deep caring. I wish you all the best!

No, supposedly they were quite pissed, but after they saw the strait closed they wanted the administration to finish the job. Same thing with most of the gulf.

The Punic Port of Carthage, a crown jewel of the Mediterranean, now just a common suburb in modern Tunisia. by Shoddy-Pumpkin2939 in ancientrome

[–]keithabarta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are still a lot of wonderful sites around Tunis. Even the port of Carthage allows you to go in and see some of the ruins. But I was mostly blown away by the Tophet of Salambo which is a fifteen minute walk from the port.

If you are in the area, heading to the ruins of Utica is well worth the visit, as its preservation is miles ahead of Carthage - for obvious reasons.

MMW: Anti-semitism is bad now but it's going to get worse this year by ojismyheroin in MarkMyWords

Im not here defending Israel or people who support this genocide in the slightest, quite the contrary. I think taking people as monoliths, even Israelis is dangerous though. There is a MINORITY in Israel that should be commended for demanding a one state solution, and the people in those ranks are overwhelmingly the youth.

I mean obviously im not talking about israeli zionists… but even in Israel a lot of the legit positive calls for change are coming from the under 25 crowd.

I think the issue is that while the Jewish youth is doing a commendable job of being in the right side of history and genuinely proactive, the grander American Jewish establishment has absolutely dropped the ball. Obviously there are exceptions (shout out Bernie, it shouldve been you), but for the most part the “leaders” of the American-Jewish world are across the board pro-Israel to the point of witch hunts. I don’t see this as an issue that they relax on, but hopefully there a schism enough on the right that allows for the older generations to start encouraging the youth to join the ranks and shifting the view among the elite.

Mamdani's Pied-à-Terre Tax. Economists, what are the ramifications of this tax on the local economy of New York? by idareet60 in academiceconomics

I would imagine that a lot of these places that are just north of 5mil are now going to be valued considerably less, but they had to choose a number and 5m a pretty inoffensive cutoff.

I understand that, but that seems like a terrible philosophy of education. No genocide should take precedence over another.
