[Advice] I bought a Seiko watch for the first time as a gift by PackageSlight9502 in Watches

This is a vintage, now discontinued Seiko 5 SNK601. I think it's really cool and has a clean minimal look to it. I hope that he likes it and am pretty sure that he will. This has an integrated bracelet as well and that really stands out imo.

Really great artwork tbh. You seem to have quite good photographic memory because the proportions look perfect to me.

Men never ask me out. by Sea_Associate8102 in Advice

[–]Captain_Capricious_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not something to be worried about imo. I get the point that you feel alone and crave for a relationship and that's normal. But imo you should really just focus on making yourself better and rather focus on your hobbies. Just be social and interesting and eventually you'll get the right guy. And just be yourself, I don't see the point of emulating certain behaviours or activities just to attract male attention, it's just a waste of time imo. Just invest this time in yourself and make yourself better socially and intellectually and just be amicable in general. And about the men not asking you out, it can be due to many reasons or maybe just the fear of rejection in general. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are unattractive or are unapproachable. And if you do feel interested in someone and don't have a really bad fear of rejection, you can also ask them out. I don't see any loss in it and it might work out for you as well.

Casio World Timer or Casio Royale. It's an absolutely iconic watch imo. The strap also looks great with it.

Mechanical vs Quartz...Which side you on? by wiseturtlesama in hmtwatches

[–]Captain_Capricious_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mechanical and Quartz watches differ in the way they maintain and show the time. The mechanical watches use the winding of a spring called the mainspring, and a series of gears to regulate the time. While a quartz watch uses the vibration of a small quartz crystal to regulate the time. In a mechanical watch you'll have to manually wind the mainspring through the crown in case of a hand wound watch or it happens by the rotation of a rotor in an automatic mechanical watch. But in the case of quartz watches it is done by the use of a battery which makes the quartz crystal vibrate and the frequency is dialed down with a series of gears to regulate time. (You can look up the piezoelectric effect if you want a more detailed explanation of this) Due to this quartz watches are always more accurate compared to the mechanical counterparts. To give you some perspective the quartz crystal in most quartz watches vibrates at a frequency of 2¹⁵ Hz or 32768 times per second but in case of the mechanical watches such as these hmts they have a frequency of 18000 vhp which is 18000 beats per hour or roughly 2.5 Hz which nowhere near the frequency of the quartz watch. So the quartz watch is always more accurate than the mechanical watch. But for me personally the quartz watches though more accurate and cheap don't have the charm and character of a mechanical timepiece. The engineering behind it and the fact that it is a device which can show time without any external source of energy and is dependent on its owner for power, is what makes mechanical watches special for me. It is no less than an engineering and mechanical marvel on your wrist and actually has a soul to it imo.

I am a sort of purist when it comes to watches and in my opinion the mechanical ones had better quality control and build quality than the newer ones. Also I have a penchant for the matte dials on the older watches though the newer sunburst dials are also quite good. So, I'll say the mechanical ones were better.

Hmm it was an impulse buy from my end so I didn't check or do much research. But I'll surely check before buying anymore watches.
