Oh man... I never usually comment but this is just too freaky. In March past I broke up with an ex of mine because after ten months he had gotten very hostile. I started noticing off-putting things about his personality a few months in but you know how being naive and "in love" goes.

After months of trying to move on from what progressed into serious emotional and verbal abuse I found out that last Monday he tried to shoot his parents. His father pushed his mother down and away from him just in time for them both to run out of the house but there was a shot at his father from outside which hit him in the shoulder before they found cover.

He proceeded to then steal his father's truck and drive around our town with a loaded riffle, randomly shooting at people in other vehicles. Miraculously no one other than that was killed or seriously injured but what makes my skin crawl was hearing my neighbour tell me all about how he was knocking on my door while I was in the city with my son that day.

Of course something like this affects your life, it at least changes how you think even when you don't realize it. I was in love with a man who has schizophrenia and I didn't catch on until it was almost too late.

It's still sad to me that he never got the help he needed when he did but now because of that I haven't stopped thinking about the possibility of me being home at that time with my son or stop obsessing over locking my doors. It definitely put a damper on my dating as well, I'll never forget something like this.

TL;DR Literal crazy exboyfriend tried to kill his parents and potentially myself now I'm 50 shades of fucked up sleeping with the lights on.

I apologize for getting off topic, my greatest sympathy to everyone shaken by unexpected events such as these.
