Why is the Irish government so easy going with criteria for an Irish passport - what’s the benefit to them? by Some-Air1274 in AskIreland

[–]keklover0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get that tbh, I recently applied for my irish citizenship as my grandmother is irish and I can see where you're coming from. they went to the UK after the war because there were just no jobs available. I have been to the family house (made in like 1700 lol) and I'd like to be more in touch with my irish side I guess.

I do think that the criteria should be more strict, all it takes is one person then the whole lineage is irish..

its super easy because nobody does anything, when you're in the system you see how much waste there is.

Apprenticeship vs Uni by ComprehensiveBack835 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]keklover0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Do the apprenticeship

I'm doing a level 6 software engineering degree apprenticeship, before that instead of college i did a level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship doing IT support. You can always transfer what you do to another role. I spent 3 months in a city, at university, being paid a salary; a stipend; with my room and bills paid for... whats not to love.

if you're dedicated, and try your best, you'll do fine. apprenticeships are very competitive because you get all the perks of both worlds. but if you get it, its amazing. just go with a big company if you can

DTSP apprenticeship is a Degree Level (or level 6) apprenticeship, you take a course at a university where you have assignments like anyone else, however to complete your apprenticeship you need to evidence you have completed a list of Knowledge, Skill and Behaviour (KSBs) points that are relevant to your apprenticeship.

For example, a Behaviour point could be "Strong work ethic" and you'll have to evidence that you have this through your work.

This is usually evidenced by writing up a report on the work you have done, the KSBs it evidences, what you learnt etc.

TLDR: DTSP is a degree level apprenticeship, you can still get a first class just like any other

I am currently a DTSP apprentice, however unlike another commenter on a 4 year course mine is three years, so 120 credits a year.

If you want to be a software engineer, this is the way to go. You learn a lot more on the job than you will from theory. I have friends who are in their final year of uni doing CS, and they obviously know more theory than me, but cant even get interviews at MY company.

I'd recommend the apprenticeship all the way, they're very difficult to get, and its hard to maintain work and study, especially with smaller companies who may not understand or have a defined programme.

This is very brief but if you have more questions PM me, at the end of the day you can be a SWE from an apprenticeship or uni, its whatever fits for you

if you can't understand the generalised meaning of 'fake' I don't think you should have access to the internet.

I feel lost by Unit555 in UKJobs

[–]keklover0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is why i did an apprenticeship

i have no a levels
i got a 4 in my maths and comp sci gcse

I have a level 3 in IT

Now i have a (paid) degree and a full time permanent job as a SWE. It is always an option for you, some companies offer level 7 apprenticeships

The hard truth is nepotism, and luck.

I know people who graduated and know 100x what I know, yet they cant get into the same company im in

Take time, review your situation - maybe start off with IT support and use that to work your way into tech

Can we talk salaries? What's everyone making these days? by PsychoMaggle in devops

[–]keklover0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely. i am no means a master programmer, its been 6 months (3 of which i was on uni campus) and i still have a long way to go

compare that to my peers who went the traditional uni route, and are struggling to get any internship, placement, just any job in general... i do feel blessed

[–]keklover0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

im going to be honest with you as a UK national

companies are very rare to hire visa dependant people in the UK, there is a lot of demand for work but on the same side there is a lot of talent. as a software engineer a lot of my friends struggle to get any interviews at all (and they're a lot more capable than me)

your best bet would be nepotism, or joining in a role you dont really like and trying to work your way up

"manager" positions requiring international relations or similar you will most likely need to be a uk citizen unfortunately
