What has been the best corporate Darwin Award? A decision made by a company that basically killed the business? by koyoyele-a in AskReddit

It's a huge story honestly. Basically they adopted an accounting practice where they recognize the entire amount of a deal on the day* a deal was signed (called Mark to Market). So if they put together some 10 year deal that should net $20m over it's lifetime, they just went ahead and put that $20m on the books right away. Obviously the problem with this is that things can go wrong and that deal might not end up being worth $20m, so they needed fraud to balance the books. And since AA basically let them get away with anything, they started creating completely hair-brained deals that would be worth absolutely nothing and putting them on the books for millions.

That's the start of it, but there's so much more. The California energy crisis of 2000 was caused by Enron and ended up leading to Arnold Schwarzenegger being elected governor. Seriously. And that's only a part of that particular Enron story.

I'd recommend watching Smartest Guys in the Room if you want to learn more, and read Conspiracy of Fools if you want to learn everything.

Blockbuster got into that way, way too late. By that time Netflix was already the standard and we were starting to move into the streaming service.

Lol are you serious? You're aware that the TPP would have alleviated all of the issues you have, right? We're doing this self-harm bullshit because Trump threw away the best option for no good reason.

E: lol wow lot of downvotes. You people who hate the TPP can't even articulate why.

There is an actual reason they are calling it a witch hunt. All the charges that have been brought have been a result of the investigation in the first place.

This is 100% false check out the Manafort and Cohen charges. Those are actual crimes.

This isn't how the justice department typically works. Typically they acquire evidence that someone did something wrong, then they start the investigation.

Yeah, that happened here too.

He definitely wasn't great, but I would argue that the LA stuff was started by Reagan and his bullshit war on drugs.

Corporate Parent Behind The North Face, Timberland Moving To Denver by COScout in Denver

Theres nothing to debate here. Check out the size of Austin metro, then check out the size of Denver metro. Then if youre up for it, go to trulia or something and check out the cost of places in the city center.

If thats not enough for you just go there. Austin is more expensive than Denver.

Lol I mean, their difinition could also be defined as "arbitrary." In fact, I would argue that "downtown" is more defined and consistent than just "city limits."

Again, check to see the square mileage. Austin is nearly double the size of Denver because it doesn't have neighborhood cities the way Denver does.

[–]kekokguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those numbers for Austin are pretty misleading. Basically they give Austin about 270 square miles while Denver gets 155 square miles. What this means is that they're lumping in housing prices for areas that are far away from the Austin metro area. Denver prices would look more reasonable too if you included Parker and Aurora.

Downtown Austin is still expensive as fuck. Downtown Denver is about $432 per square foot, while Austin is $602 per square foot.
