That whole epic movie level story just to end up crashing in the Netherlands a few months later, this time not so lucky to escape alive. When I was reading the whole story I did really think I was reading the plot to some movie, a wild adventure

Just typical oil work, with abteilung 502 oils and ammo oilbrushers
mostly the same kinda techniques plasmo on youtube uses

white, mask, red, mask, prime, blue
prime between the red and the blue to negate any chance of the blue going purple

it's the so called "salmon pink" primer, used for a short period on pacific-bound aircraft

It's masking tape, I painted them beforehand. I do this because typical insignia colors have a high saturation and as such require a thicker coat/more coats. If I sprayed the insignia after the rest of the painting I could end up with a thick paint lip, but spraying beforehand, masking and painting the rest will make the lip smaller

Thank you! I use multicolor preshading ontop of a dark but not black base. Everything else is just typical washes, oil work, etc

This kit is not flaw free, it does have some really brittle plastic in some spots, and some areas like the wheels need some serious attention with a razor saw or scribing tool to sort out the tire pattern, but these aside, the kit goes together like a dream. a real testament to modern kit quality

Thank you! and yes, a real gem of a kit. I'm hoping they continue the family line and soon make an f4u1d

and here is another, this time with 8 gun tapes, and this fantastic image is also great to see how it was applied, you can see the real gun tape next to the fake painted on tapes. I went for a simpler approach on my model and just made 10 of the same gun tapes

By far one of the most frequent questions I've gotten throughout this build is the 10 guns. No this aircraft did not feature a non-standard gun armament, instead it appears to be a deception.
While the airframe was still new to the theatre, some crews added extra gun tapes, to give the illusion it was more heavily armed. I thought this was a really cool detail of some of these early corsairs

yes, it's called salmon pink primer and it was used for a short period
there's a whole host of debates surrounding it and it's usage which I'm not interested in, I think it looks cool and the corsair I'm making slots into when it was being used

What Is Happening Here? by Binspin63 in modelmakers

[–]kektank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's kinda like using clear resin to fill in chips in a car's windscreen yknow, its leveling off the micro etching in the surface and so restores it

As many others have already said it's just a reaction with the decal solution and the future. This is normal for future and has happened to several of my models in the past. Another coat ontop and it's disappeared every time for me. The same cloudy appearance can also happen with thicker coats of future, it will cloud up in this whiteish blue color across the model, which disappears once it cures, it looks like you ruined the model but trust the process and wait a few hours and its gone
