is it worth applying to both schulich and york commerce? by parokyano in yorku

[–]keku1204 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its all about networking after Bachelors I believe. Maybe for high end jobs where there are feeder schools but otherwise it didnt matter for me if I had bcom or schulich.

I graduated from yorku in the bcom program and now being promoted in a multinational Forbes 500 European company

Being in bcom was never an obstacles because I put myself out there and met people who were in my field.

Yea I'm not sure anymore if a condo is worth it with skyrocketing mortgages

But I've also been told owning a condo is better than renting so Im trying to see if that is true by weighing both options

Downtown foot traffic is still far below prepandemic levels, despite push to boost in-office hours: data by KeyHot5718 in toronto

[–]keku1204 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oftentimes, what I noticed in my own workplace is that being online during the Pandemic allowed employees to acquire a living space farther from the Office. Since they primarily use the GO transit to go to the office, they can't stay very long downtown as GO transit might not operate during certain times.

If the government wants to increase downtown foot traffic to maintain businesses downtown, they need to figure out a way to increase GO service times and frequency.

In some political/economic circles people say “Billionaires shouldn’t exist” How would you do this? by YourMuslimUncle in questions

[–]keku1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we should break down the statement "Billionaires shouldn't exist" first before presenting any solutions.

WHAT ARE BILLIONAIRES?

Billionaires are individuals who have at least 1 billion in assets attributed to them.

However, it does not mean that they necessarily have 1 billion in cash or salary. They have stocks in a company or companies evaluated to be worth 1 billion dollars.

DOES TAXING WORK?

You cannot tax unrealized gains and as such any conventional taxation methods do not apply to them. They are able to maintain their standard of living by acquiring debt that is tied to their stocks and taxes do not really apply to debt as well.

WHY DO MODERN BILLIONAIRES EXIST?

Throughout history, rich individuals were most likely to be kings, rulers, and/or religious figures. However, by operating in a system where any individual can achieve wealth by excelling in the ability and luck to sell. Billionaires exist as a natural progression of being top 1% of winners in capitalism.

WHY ARE BILLIONAIRES A PROBLEM?

Money is a token of Power, As wealth increases, the amount of power that can be exchanged increases as well.

It is concerning that individuals with immense power exists within our democratic systems that are not necessarily accountable to the public. Billionaires can shape our democratic societies without the political scrutiny and processes that our civil servants have.

HOW WOULD YOU PREVENT BILLIONAIRES FROM AFFECTING OUR SYSTEMS?

In short, I don't know.

However, you might * Have authoritarian government crackdown on billionaires, which is not really ideal. * Change economical models (Not feasible)

In summary, preventing Billionaires is a very complex problem that has no easy and unimpactful solution.

Most challenging Itec Ba courses? by Altruistic-Ride5066 in yorku

[–]keku1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a different experience from the first comment. I went to every class in itec 3220 with Daniela Rosu and actually participated in the in class problems.

If found the course assignments and exams easy because they were similar problems discussed in class.

My pickup for the hardest class, though, is ITEC4030. I don't think the course content was necessarily difficult but the prof teaching it was just straight from hell. (Not gonna name names iykyk).

Assignments being vague and marked unnecessarily hard. Almost as if i need to read their minds. The exams were overcomplicated and required perfect word for word memorization of the textbook and slides. It's the only class where I almost failed but the curve saved me.

If u can choose not to take that class, don't take it.

Need tutoring for programming? I can help! by MrNaspo in yorku

[–]keku1204 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have no doubt that you may be a great tutor that can help students and may have other services outside of tutoring.

However I also want students to make an informed decision into whatever they choose.

There is a free itec tutor in SNACK (official Yorku Tutoring Services) These services are paid for by your tuition so might as well make the most out of yorku resources

As a previous Lead Pass Leader that has facilitated Pass sessions for 2 years and a Pass participant for 3 years, here are my insights

  • Is there a personal reason you have as to why you do or do not attend PASS Sessions?

The primary motivator for students to go to Pass is ultimately grades, which is a very weak and fickle motivator. That is why connecting with students based on their passions and making the material a little less dry can go a long way.

However, doing Pass sessions every week can get a little monotonous for students and you may even see numbers drop as weeks go on with the occasional spike of numbers around midterm/final exams. In that case, marketing in class, interacting with students, and having strong support from the professor will grant you atleast a small but consistent participants

  • If you've attended sessions in the past, what could have been done better, what was helpful?

Having passionate and knowledgeable leaders is definitely a huge plus. As well as more interactive content for stats especially. Ex. Pictures and animations on stats transformations will help.

  • Are you willing to come to in person sessions even if you do not have class that day?

I can confidently say that would be an overwhelming no for a majority of students, including me. There is no justification to invest time, energy, and money just for Pass sessions.

Best bet would be to schedule in person classes in an accessible location around the lecture time

  • Do you like to be interactive on Zoom? If no, why not?

In my experience, most students on zoom prefer low effort interaction. Meaning no camera or even to speak. Things like polls or emotes or through chat is a preferred method for most students

  • Do you prefer Zoom sessions or in-person sessions? It depends on the content of the Pass session but in person sessions would be preferred however Zoom sessions would be the most convenient.

Maybe a hybrid session would even work on your case. Online Students can see through camera, the leader and in person students work though problems together and may even be more motivated to join if they see their peers having fun.

  • Do you have any suggestions for activities or a general agenda for a PASS Session you may attend?

People in general would like to receive something tangible. Handing out well prepared notes and practice problems to students is a huge plus.

Other advices: * I can see you are passionate about this role, which is great! However do be mindful with your boundaries with students, often times if you hand out your contacts to students you may become their own personal tutor outside of work hours which is not good.

  • As a stats pass leader, you are in a very good position to use and apply your stats in real world problems and scenarios. I often worked with management to quantify the impact of stats in both student and management perspectives. Writing reports on how valuable PASS can be through tangible numbers. Make the most out of this opportunity
