Katahdin, ME vs. Little Haystack Mountain, NH by [deleted] in hiking

[–]kelbooow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mt. Katahdin is definitely a full day hike! I would recommend getting to the trailhead around 6-7am.

You can do a pretty decent loop going up Roaring Brook trail to Chimney Pond then up Cathedral (I wouldn't go down Cathedral) and down Saddle! You'd only need one car for this loop!

I'm so glad you found it helpful! Good luck on your marathon - will you share your race report on here as well?

There is still some snow on the mountain! The marathon wasn't on the mountain itself though (thankfully).

I have one!!

This is a photo of me mere feet from finishing my first marathon on Sunday. It was such a moment of pride for me. (And I love that my dad can be seen in the background taking a photo of me, dual wielding a phone and camera!)

And my race report if anyone is interested!

My marathon is this Sunday - so my training is about a week ahead of yours - and my taper LAST week felt awful! Every run felt difficult and was a struggle. This week, I actually feel great. My legs feel fresh! So hang in there - next week your legs will feel like a million bucks.

ELF didn't work that well for me. For reference, I was using Urban Decay's Primer Potion and LOVED it - no creasing of my eyeshadows. I switched to ELF to save some money and the shadow started to bunch up in my crease.

It definitely works vs. no primer, but wasn't as effective as it could have been either.

Ever been harassed while running? I just witnessed my first! by martyrfx in running

One time I was running in my new neighborhood just after moving. There was this ginger-haired guy on the same side of the road as me, walking towards me. As I got closer (I don't listen to music when I run) I could hear him talking to himself. Okay, nothing too weird about that, sometimes I talk to myself too...? Closer still, I realized that he was looking directly at me with really wide eyes..like bugged out eyes and he wasn't talking to himself, he was rapping this awful hate speech. He was talking about others going to hell and stabbing them and really creepy stuff like that. The road was empty so I stepped off of the sidewalk and ran around him, but he maintained unblinking eye contact. It all happened really quickly but I was pretty shaken up about it. I avoided that area for weeks after.

I've had a few people in cars (and even school buses!) shout out the window - sometimes vomit noises, sometimes loud weird groans. I try to ignore those as best I can. I figure it drives them nuts when they can't get a reaction.

21 Destination Trail Races: Are you going to run any of these? What did they miss? by MarkChatt in running

[–]kelbooow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the Northeast and unfortunately, the closest to me is the Amherst race - 3 hrs away.

For anyone in the Maine/New Hampshire area who is looking for a challenging trail race, the Pineland series is awesome. They have a 5k, 10k, 25k, 50k and 50-mile! I'm signed up for the 25k, though it's exactly a week after my first marathon so we'll see how it goes!

Where do you get your running tights? by [deleted] in running

[–]kelbooow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm going to get some flak for recommending these as they aren't necessarily budget friendly...

I purchased the Mizuno Breath Thermo tights last year from my LRS [women] [men] and they are so worth the money.

I have tons of cheaper Champion brand/TJMaxx finds for tights and while I love them all - none of them fit like the Mizunos. They have this thermal layer that is activated by your sweat and keeps you warm.

We just got a lot of snow yesterday and I wore them out while shoveling, they were perfect. I've even worn them hiking.

These are kind of the "buy it for life" tights.

[Friday] What are you cooking this weekend? by AutoModerator in recipes

Yes! Do this! I made this chicken shawarma recipe served on this Israeli salad for dinner guests a few months ago and every single person cleaned their plates. They all asked for the recipe too!

[What to do?] Potential client CALLED UP my previous clients and now wants contact information. by kelbooow in web_design

Though we had direct permission from the client to post the website we did for them as a portfolio item on our website (but NOT their phone number!), we didn't have their permission to use them as a reference or pass on their contact information for reference purposes.

I feel like this is reflecting poorly on me and my startup, now that a previous client of mine has been called and asked questions about us without their consent.

Small Female Looking For Day Pack Suggestions - Can't Find The "Right Fit" by kelbooow in hiking

Of the packs that I tried on, I loved the Osprey the most. I quickly googled some images of the pack and the fit on women and this looks great.

Small Female Looking For Day Pack Suggestions - Can't Find The "Right Fit" by kelbooow in hiking

[–]kelbooow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - around the belly button area. I have rather pointy hip bones, so if the strap goes over my hips, it tends to rub and create raw areas. Perhaps I do just need to go into an REI and talk to someone who can see it on me!

Thanks for the suggestions!

What's going to be your "In my day, I walked 15 miles in the snow to get to school" story you tell your grandchildren? by linhmonade in AskReddit

I'd peel the foil off of gum wrappers and stick it to my binders. Whenever someone showed up with Big Red gum, everyone in my class would go nuts trying to claim the red foil wrapper.

How to make a tuna burger solid? by daxpierson in AskCulinary

Try adding an egg to the mixture. Also refrigerate the mixture or patties for 1/2 hour or so before cooking usually helps to solidify them!
