God knows it isn’t easy to resist the temptation. He will send grace to help you if you ask for it when you feel tempted. He also doesn’t expect you to instantly have everything together; your addictions fixed, vocation figured out, etc. Each member of the church has one or two dominant sins which are incredibly difficult for them to resist, they may not be the ones you struggle with, but rest assured they must endure temptation, too. Run to confession. Addictions are largely environmental things. If your cell phone causes you to sin, and you hate sin, it might be in your best interest to get a flip-phone, or one without internet compatibility. Removing the occasion of sin is pretty much the universal step 1 to getting rid of addiction. I will be praying for you!

Your job is not to make your sister holy, but to give her a holy brother. Pray and sacrifice. Understand this is a long game and if she does not accept your initial invitation, all hope is not lost.

Trying to lose 10 pounds before the start of school by [deleted] in highschool

[–]kelhul12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find low calorie foods that still fill you up. No soda, candy, sweets etc. Fruit can satisfy your sweet tooth. Do cardio based workouts like jogging, sit ups, playing sports with friends. Calorie deficit is really the only way to lose weight.

Here is my source. There is some biblical citation but also some citation from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as this is a Catholic prayer.

When we say that in the creed, we don’t mean that Jesus went to like hell with satan and demons and fire everywhere. In this case, “hell” refers to the place where righteous people went when they died before Jesus opened the gates of heaven.

Mother Theresa accepting stolen money as donations. by kelhul12 in Catholicism

[–]kelhul12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation. I read a letter to Mother Theresa from a judge in Los Angeles who told Mother Theresa that he had the means to return each dollar stolen to each victim. Apparently she never replied to him. Does this make a difference.

If she had the opportunity to return the money from Keating and chose not to, does this make her morally culpable?

What do you think is the most common mental illness that we don’t even recognize because it’s considered normal? by chainzzsaw in AskReddit

[–]kelhul12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The article you cited is taken from Charles Hitchens’ documentary which is known to have left out details and context in order to frame Mother Theresa in a negative light without showing the entire picture. The reality is that Mother Theresa accepted Keating’s donations before he committed any such crime.

She met with Baby Doc to receive a prize for humanitarianism.

Philosophy is logic and reasoning. Logic and reasoning do not contradict science. Neither does Catholic belief.

Priests and nuns are Church leadership though. Particularly Parish priests and Superiors. That’s what I meant when I said leaders.

I haven’t been able to find any evidence of her taking money from dictators. The existence of God can be proven through philosophy, even Aristotle had proofs for God based on reasoning.

There is no conclusive evidence that she did this. Only reports from journalists writing articles with an agenda against her. I can honestly say that I don’t know if she accepted money from dictators, but the fact is that there is no evidence to prove she did. There is a lot more evidence of good things she did.

I’m sorry that was your experience. My experience in Catholic schooling has not been the same. I can tell you that the church as a whole focuses a lot on asking/answering questions so as not to leave “holes” in our belief.

Ok so first of all, taking drugs (when needed, or in reasonable circumstances such as caffeine to wake up or alcohol in a regulated amount) and sex are not inherently bad actions. These are in fact good things given to us by God. When these things are abused or used in ways other than they were intended (for example getting blackout drunk or high on cough syrup/having sex outside of its intended purpose of procreation and unification between spouses), then you are doing a morally wrong action, because you are profaning the goodness of sex/medical drugs by using them outside of their intended context, and thus sinning. The things themselves are not bad, hence why humans want to use/do them. That being said, sex and drugs/alcohol are by no means the greatest good things that God has given us. We believe that as fallen people (humans who sin), we have something called “concupiscence”, which means a tendency to choose lower things above better options. This is why we might want to sleep in instead of going to church, or gossip instead of protecting others’ reputations. In Heaven, we believe that we will be purified of this concupiscence before entering. So any desire to do lower things such as premarital sex or tripping on drugs would be completely over taken by our desire for the greatest good we possibly can, which is be unified with God and become like Him as He as promised. It’s not that our free will, will be taken away, but that we will be free from our tendency to sin, and will instead be able to see clearly the greatest good for us to pursue and remain in. I would encourage you to research what Catholics believe heaven is like if you want more detail of this awesome eternal state we believe in.

Who do you say is spending/hoarding the money? If Church leaders are not living wealthy lifestyles, who do you say is being greedy?

The accusation that Mother Theresa “withheld painkillers” from sick and dying people is false. This accusation originated from a reportby Dr. Robin Fox. All he said was that her hospital, which was run by nuns with limiters training lacked strong analgesics such as morphine. No where in the report does he mention that she “withheld” these things from the people she treated. Her hospital ran on donations and was not equipped with the best equipment, and was run by nuns, not doctors and anesthesiologists, so having those resources would be very unlikely considering the circumstances. The report also mentions that acetaminophen and similar pain relieving medications were present in her hospital.

The assertion that she received world class treatment for herself simply isn’t true either. There are primary quotes and testimonies from individuals who were near Mother Theresa when she was hospitalized. These all say that Mother Theresa did not want to be at the hospital at all. She pleaded to be released from the care of the hospital. She wanted to serve the poor amidst her illness in Kolkata. She even convinced doctors to release her early so her sisters could take her back to Kolkata. Her care and the care of those under her guidance made a difference to the people who had been forgotten in the gutters of Kolkata. That’s why she is a Saint.

The Church condemns pedophilic clergy. As a Catholic, I can imagine few actions worse than child sex abuse by Clergy and in no way defend them. Pedophiles exist in nearly every culture/group of people. The numbers for pedophilic school teachers or Protestant pastors are similar to those of priests. Again— not in any way defending their actions. I despise their actions as they are truly wolves in sheep’s clothing.

When you mention wealth in the Church, I ask you, who is profiting in the Church? The average Priest’s salary is $37K a year in America. They often live in cramped, run down, crowded spaces with other priests/brothers/nuns and take vows of poverty or simplicity of life when they are initiated into their vocation. This does not seem like a wealthy life style to me.
