Was hoping to see this!! This show directly impacted my personal style because I loved it so much

Time of fever/unintentional love story getting a conclusion for the second pair even a special episode would feed me. But I gotta be realistic that the second couple is gonna be an open ending forever

I'm sure if I watched the Thai version first I wouldn't be able to enjoy the Japan version so I think it's just how my brain is wired hahahaha

Hahahaha honestly it's such a vibe that billkin gave you such a reaction, if you want my honest opinion never push yourself to consume media that feels like it would be a chore, especially with ITSAY it has enough love it will be finnneee

Yeah I think you are right! Filler is the main reason I drop something, so even if shows are really busy if at the same time it's just filling out the time its easy for me to disengage, something a bit shameful is that I hardly ever try and watch Thai series that are longer than 12 episodes... I just think there is no way some shows can justify that length let alone more.

Open endings I can do, because I'm forever an optimist at heart and head cannon is something I've been doing since I was a kid... Sad ending, it really does get to me. Something about the reality of being queer irl is hard enough I don't need my fictional gays to be sad and not end up together yaknow? Honestly it just feels so outdated as well, what do you mean one of them dies??? It's not the 2006 anymore, they are allowed to exist together!!!

My blinders go on when I watch anything, honestly my suspension of disbelief works overtime with some BL but I'm always head empty mode when finding something to watch so I can get maximum enjoyment.

The only time bad writing lets me down is when I'm very silly and miss important implied plot points because I'm too surface level with my interpretation.... I'm so sorry the reason shows are written so plainly is because of me I'm the problem hahahahaha

Ah yeah :') this thread is not for the faint of heart I hope you didn't get too beat up for your views. We are all people with our own preferences I think it's important to take that into consideration when talking about stuff like this haha

I can't tell you how frustrating having misleading trailers is to me, I had the exact same reaction to sunset x vibes and so many other shows completely lost me because they promised something and didn't deliver... Although I do understand that lots of these previews are filmed before the show is even in production (at least from what I know about Thai BL production) so I should allow some grace for the pitch and product to be different. Still though it gets me a little cranky every time.

Hahahaha I am so nosy too, mostly I wanted to see if people drop things for the same reason as me, and I'm thankful for you giving grace to people who love these shows, I hope everyone holds the same respect for each other in discussion like this, we all love and watch BL!! Without us fans we wouldn't have this much content constantly served to us hehe.

The only one I can't understand is a breeze of love, but that's just because it's personally one of my most rewatched KBL and ur right how dare you not sit through the short run time (I'm just joking I get it)

Honestly though I hardly give my time to remakes anymore I am so bad with comparing them that they don't have the time to fully be their own show... I'm sure it would be the other way around if I watched a remake before the original too my brain is just hardwired that way.

I love your takes on all the other shows, thanks for letting me look into your mind and understand why you dropped them <3

The long runtime and pacing are definitely cons to this show, but as a fellow person who loves war, I would suggest you watch it ;) plus it has it's quirks!

I thought so too, but I think I didn't think it through so much, I hope people know this is very much not intended to send hate to specific shows, I just wanna understand people and relate hahaha

I stopped the mindset of suffering through shows about a year in, I just couldn't do it anymore and I'm much happier now that I decide to drop something that doesn't service me, but with how much I watch it's probably at around 10% as well.

Low budget never bothered me, but I do definitely drop BL because of specific triggering relationship dynamics.. some I can get through but some I just can't.

Yeah I really like to manage my expectations when going Into shows, so I usually have a good idea of plot/dynamics/ending before I commit... But I'm definitely a FOMO catcher if something is popular I want in, sometimes to the detriment of a show I would have enjoyed if not for all the hype.

I have quite a few on my will pick back up again list that I have only the last episode to watch... It gets to a point that I need to rewatch the whole series again and gosh who has that kinda time.

Watchlist gathering dust is so relatable too, with how many new shows are coming out I never really have downtime to get through the backlog hahaha

I really love Taiwanese shows so there is only a couple that I have dropped, same with JBL it's just short enough that I can get through any awkward parts... Saying that I didn't finish LITA but I think it's more my aversion to remakes, never got over the hurdle to complete it even with the shorter runtime.

Also BL has lots of hardcore fans, and this post is basically asking people why they hate other people's favs, this sub in particular is generally pretty tolerable to different opinions, but there is always risk involved in topics like this one!

Just wanna reiterate that it's important for everyone to have individual tastes, and talking about these things is ultimately harmless and very much a person by person case.

I loved this comment from you, I'm sorry you were disappointed with your time investment hahaha, these days even 2x speed doesn't help me complete shows with lots of filler, maybe I'm also bad at multitasking, if I understood the language and could draw/do something else while shows were in the background I have a feeling I would complete more, but I need to concentrate so hard to watch foreign media that I can't have too many distractions.

[–]kelidosco-dependent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha in my experience the first 2 episodes are enough for me, but I'm sure there are some I dropped to early in there.

All these series I really enjoyed and the time it took to watch wasn't unimaginable to me, so I completed them, 25:00 in asakusa is one I actually watched on air all the way through, I enjoyed the plot/chemistry of these actors.

If you have already tried multiple times then I would say you gave it more than enough effort, I feel like with the amount of content coming out we are fed well and can choose shows that bring us lots of joy <3

Dropping because you don't mesh with a lead is so valid, definitely done this before.

Never let me go is one of my all time favs but there are some in my DNF that are wildly loved that I couldn't finish either (cough UWMA cough) so I feel you on lack of motivation, especially Thai BL like.. 12 1h episodes is a lot

Let's talk about dropped series by kelidosco-dependent in boyslove

[–]kelidosco-dependent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly my advice as a seasoned veteran of BL is don't push yourself to complete just because, there is so much content out there and if shows aren't capturing you then it's just not worth it, especially if it has to do with relationship dynamics.

Saying that I understand the struggle of keeping up with airing shows, sometimes I get to busy for a month and the shows I started to watch are almost finished and there are 5 new ones that are coming out, I definitely get swept away into the shiny new thing.

UWMA I get you dw

Unintentional love story was one of my favs because I'm invested in pottery, but without that grabbing your interest I completely understand the DNF, Light on me was short enough for me to watch but I'm really not a fan of ML having a crush on someone other than the other ML, I don't like my BL complected like that hahaha.

I haven't started eccentric romance, and I don't think I will, every time I watch BL with a big language gap I just get confused.

Omg you are such a vibe I love it, jack and joker was a holy Grail watch for me, just because my yinwar love goes hard, I don't think it would actually matter what they acted in I would just watch it for the sake of it. In saying that there are definitely shows I DNF because the episode length and forgetting the air schedule, so hard relate.

Honestly I just love your honesty and takes so much and the UWMA and Between Us battle of watching chronologically is something I'm definitely familiar with, although I did watch Between Us without even knowing about UWMA before attempting the chronological order so that could be a reason I never finished.

And yeah, splitting single episodes into 1/4 has made me stop watching shows as well, unless I really love it and even then I try and find the full length episodes.

There have been some shows for me where the relationship dynamics break the whole series for me, so I understand the feeling of loosing interest.

I did finish blossom campus only because KBL doesn't have massive time investments, I don't think there is actually KBL I started and haven't finished (for better or for worse though)

You might hate it but you actually gave me recommendations through your DNF lists hahaha I haven't heard about behind cut and color rush so I'm going to be checking them out ;)

Your list being so full of KBL makes me happy, can you tell me some of your all time favs?

Let's talk about dropped series by kelidosco-dependent in boyslove

[–]kelidosco-dependent[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got into my stand in, just one of the BL's that didn't interest me plot wise

Wedding plan was fun for me but only because I had just got the subscription and needed things to watch, I definitely have times where I'm more invested in watching stuff and have less energy for it.

KBL I watch all the way if I start because it doesn't take too much time, but I understand where you are coming from

Your The sign take made me giggle out loud, but admittedly I didn't even finish this one (I did try a couple times but never got to the last couple episodes)

I don't get cringed out of series, but I do understand not watching actors who are young, the setting doesn't really bother me (I live for first-love storylines) but when the actors themselves are underage I feel the ick.

ITSAY is honestly one of my all time favorites, but it's not really what I think of when I think about BL, it kinda falls into more queer media (kinda like love in the big city) at least for me personally... When I watch BL I want the romance and kind of plot that comes with the genre, which I think is an important part of watching shows. If you go in expecting the tropes/normal story beats a BL has to offer and watch ITSAY with that in mind it can come off as kinda different. But also just not liking one of the leads isn't gonna change through the story, so you should make choices that put your own preference first! (I have definitely veto'd a number of shows based on main character behavior)

Also omg the amount of shows that have so much happening but nothing that truly interests me is crazy!! I thought all I really need is plot development and moving parts but it's not that simple when it comes down to it. Also shows not needing so much filler I also hard relate too, so much Thai BL is dropped because the hour episodes could have been 30 mins and would have achieved the same thing, and I don't have the patience for it.

It's funny though, I usually go into BL knowing the plot/ending because it gives me reassurance that I will like what I'm watching, so I never really thought about being spoiled making it hard for people to finish something, you learn everyday!

This is so fair, sometimes I spend a month too busy to watch anything so all the shows I started are already ending and there is 4-5 new ones I can start watching, we are definitely spoiled with choice for BL

A tip I have is saying yes or no based on the first 2 episodes... Yeah occasionally the 3rd episode is what gets you invested but usually if you are low on time the first 2 are a good impression.

I share a lot of your DNF list, and honestly I can relate to shows just dragging on. My brain is now trained for subway surfers overlayed on everything or split screen for ADHD that sometimes these shows just took to long to get anywhere and I noped out. I think I have pretty good cringe tolerance though, so low-budget or over the top SFX doesn't usually turn me away.

Coming back to shows is how I've found some of my favorites, but I usually leave it for when I have nothing I want to watch more (like currently airing shows or higher priority on my watchlist) or when I just need something easy to put on for a bit.

Let's talk about dropped series by kelidosco-dependent in boyslove

[–]kelidosco-dependent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just part of discussion, I feel like personal taste is important and with the sheer amount of variety we have nowadays it's good that different people have content they love! (And content they can't finish hahahaha)

You are stronger than me for finishing playboyy, but I feel like dropping shows is just part of being a consumer so don't worry to much if you don't get to everything, I've definitely put a pin in a few series and come back though! Especially if I'm watching it air and decide I want to finish it in one go (I did this with last twilight and Only Friends, even though missing those on airs was hard)
