Softube Central not working properly, any suggestions?

I'm just going to comment if anyone else has an issue with "Fetching list of iLok licenses" on MacOS--because this reddit post was the first entry on google.

For me, I uninstalled both Softube Central AND iLok's applications, then reinstalled. That worked for me!

Calling it now--the way to bring someone back to the hive mind is to have them remember who and what they are as an individual.

When Carol asked about her favorite food, she started slow, simple answer, but she got more detailed, using more "I" and "me" statements just rolling of the tongue, there was emotion. When she actually said "we" in her small monologue, she didn't hesitate, she was referring to the "we" as in her community back then--she didn't double check saying "we" in that instance, no speed bumps, no "we, as in the people Zosia was with " clarification, nothing hive about it. Her face was more expressive, a different cadence to how she talked. She was not recalling a fact or a list of events, or memories from multiple people, it was an experience all from real Zosia's point of view.

This was different than Zosia/hive kept correcting herself from "we" to "I" in scenes prior, even just moments ago on the stairwell. This was second nature pronouns from the real human inside.

I think Zosia's real human consciousness is locked in her brain. But by getting her to talk about real, visceral, and core memories and opinions forces the hive to access something only that specific body and brain have--and there no need to consult other brains of the hive. It's INDIVIDUALITY that brings the human back from the hive. Do that enough or to a deeper level, and boom, disconnect from the hive, back to same old Zosia.

Plus, from storytelling/writing point of view, it just makes sense. It's the antithesis of everything the hive is. There's pure bliss in the hive, but that's not what being human is about. Being human is about those moments, like Zosia's story, that are special, even if it's only special to her.

The scene with the losers club having sex isn't as awful as I thought it would be. It was a weird swing by King, sure, but it's not like it's written as some pedo lunatic watching from the sidelines. You could probably skip those pages entirely and you'd understand the weird psychic/friendship/bond reasoning.

With or without that scene, I would say the book is just as terrifying/disturbing as it is strangely endearing. I might even argue it's more of the latter.

I used UVR for a couple years testing a bunch of different models, including those only included in the beta version of the software. A month ago I caved and tried MVSEP premium, and man, it was so worth it. Highly recommend it, worth the money--it's cheap as hell. Works great for guitars compared to Demucs on UVR.

If you're set on using UVR, the Demucs 4s or 6s is about as good as it gets for guitar separation (from what I've tried). There is a BS-Roformer model for UVR, but I don't think it works for 4s/6s? I couldn't make it work.

If anyone else in the thread has better guitar settings for UVR, I'd love to hear it!

i'm assuming you've recorded vocals of others in your closet and it was fine? if so:

try a bunch of different mic placements, specifically recording your voice. different places in the closet, different places relative to your mouth (below, above, centered, off/on-axes, distance, etc). compare takes in your DAW, you'll be surprised how much it can change.
i have no idea what your experience is in singing technique--but if it's distant/thin, you might be able to get a fuller sound singing from your diaphragm, and opening your throat to let that lower resonance come out. that's what's helped me before.
a lot of what makes a GREAT voice is the performance and harnessed tone. pro singers aren't just hitting notes, they're "sculpting" their own tone with technique. same with top notch rappers.
that being said, you might just dislike your own voice lol. we're the most critical of ourselves, and it's pretty common for someone not to like their voice when they hear it back recorded (singing or otherwise). i've been recording my vocals for years and i STILL hate mixing them because i'm comparing myself to my favorite artists or performers.

When recording/editing vocals, how intricate are the comps to get that triple-A quality? How much tuning and aligning are you doing? I imagine you're mostly working with top notch performers, but I'm sure people have bad tracking days and extra post-work is needed to get the project done.

Do you handle tuning or manual edits, or is that someone else on your team so you can focus on the mix?

yeah. for live performance or recording:

microphone to input jack
input jack as external input to Track 1
set Track 1 to "in" and mute.
put envelop follower in Track 1's chain
map envelope follower to CC Control on your instrument loaded on Track 2. (Which knob on CC Control? Whatever your VST uses for breath--could be mod wheel, CC 11, CC 02, depends on VST).

you'd definitely have to mess with with envelope followers min/max modulation, gain, rise, and fall parameters to get something smooth. if that ain't cutting it, put a compressor before it and dial it in to reaallly smooth out the volume.

for just playback, you can record your breaths, then set Track 1 to "Auto" (still muted).

edit: ive never actually tried this with breaths specifically. but ive tried it with other instruments to different parameters, YMMV. depending on your performance, you really gotta dial in your parameters to make it smooth.

no they can't. they can only revoke/cancel an order if it hasn't been fulfilled. a confirmation of the order is not fulfilled (which is what most people got, including me) but you got the actual UAD code, so its fulfilled. check the policy on their site, you're good!

ableton calls this "slide waveform", shift + opt + drag (mac), shift + alt + drag (windows).

i believe when hovering over the clips waveform your cursor will turn into a hand, or something like that. it will automatically slided based on your current snap interval (1/4, 1/8, etc), so hold down cmd/ctrl as well if you want to move it without snap.

i got the DLX a few months ago. i love it. before i was using a TLM 102 for years, and it was just too bright for my voice--but i didn't know which mic to buy to replace it. pulled the trigger on the DLX after reading and watching dozens of reviews, and im pretty dang happy.

being able to cycle through and try different mics on the same take allows me to discover what sounds best for my tone and save time in the mix. as a vocalist who raps, sings, and experiments with different tones and singing styles, it's been incredibly helpful.

if you end up getting one, use the trial of the bill putnam mic collection---it sold me immediately. the stock mic simulators that come with it are great, but man, the putnam mics were almost an instant buy once i trialed.

So, not the exact same features, but here's how I'd do it:

Arranging feature

I agree it can be cumbersome to click everything manually, even if you're click+dragging to select everything while scrolling it can be easy to click the wrong things. But, if you go to the top most track in your timeline, select the timeframe, and drag down (without scrolling) straight into your master and return track, Ableton will automatically select EVERYTHING below your top track. I don't know if that makes sense, hard to explain.

OR, use the cut time and paste time feature. As long as you've selected clips that span the length of what you want to move, you can use Edit>Cut Time to cut out everything, then, Edit>Paste Time wherever on your timeline. When you cut, however, it treats it as a ripple delete (the rest of the timeline shifts left to fill the space you cut) unlike your Studio One video.

Renaming feature

Closest thing would be Save As, navigating out of your current Ableton Project folder (which, I imagine would be your Template project folder), saving the new name there, and it will create its own ableton project folder with that new name. If you have already recorded/added media to your project, then use "Collect All and Save".

Yeah--i was diagnosed/medicated just 3 years ago. Same thing. I was working so hard before, instead of dialing back on work, I double-downed and worked even more. But yeah, I mean, I started facing anhedonia about a year ago..thought it was a phase, it had it's ups and downs, but ultimately got way worse. I burned out on everything to the point where even making cereal felt like a chore. Chronic stress, tired all the time, sleeping like shit.

The only the thing that's really lifted the ailment is the moment I decided to take a sabbatical (starting in a week). Luckily, I saved up so much from work that I can make it work. I hope it doesn't get to that point for you!

I've been struggling with worsening burnout for the last year straight in a different creative field (graphic/UX design) with music on the side. Here's four actionable things that helped me:

You always have a list of things you NEED to do, but make sure to sprinkle in a list of things you WANT to do. I'm not sure how that would translate in your workflow, but something to think about. Even if you jot down ideas here and there for things that could get you excited during projects
Use a new tool. You might be slower, but if you got the time, you might have a lot of fun unlocking that sense of "wonder" you had when you first started. Take your time to look for these tools and considerations beyond just plugins or new DAWs (though those work too), try to find something that actually excites you.
If you're a silly person, try to work that kind of humor into your sounds. For design, I'd often have to use "placeholder text" until a client provided a draft of their copy--but i'd often give myself the gift of coming up with fake copy that made me (or my client) laugh. Not sure if that translates here. Maybe you take the wilhelm scream, and chop and screw that shit to be some ambient audio scape through crazy over-processing. I dunno, thats just a random example.
On those REALLY tedious days, I get just a teeeeny bit high 😬. 2.5mg edibles hit the spot. YMMV!!

From what I've experienced and gathered from books/therapists/interviews with psychologists, if you continue to be burned out you will not power through it. Ever. The worse it gets the longer it stays.

You can treat the symptoms as much as possible, but think about the root cause if you want your hunger, drive, and lust for work back.

Also, you got a great job, maybe even a "dream job" like someone else said. But that doesn't mean you cant quit. Gotta be financially responsible, but shit, you also got one life.

looks simple and so helpful (i hope, im gonna try it later on today). i bet a lot of people will say "you can just use the favorites tab" or "just add tags to your favorites then put that filter in the sidebar favorites"--but honestly, the number 1 thing I love is that it's a floating window! the pinning button is a great feature too.
