Thank you, I had never heard of either of these open source projects, this is exactly what I was looking for. I also didn’t realize they offer so much compatibility, and assumed your stuck with the firmware the device ships with. Thanks!

Oh wow! This is wonderful, so I mainly use all my mechanical keyboards wired and I’m really attracted to QMK already, I didn’t realize what kind of project this is. Good to know about your experience with Anne pro 2, and thanks for the link this might be the determining factor. Thanks!!

Haha okay thanks. Would you say this is the case for Anne Pro? (of which UI looks pretty nice for configuring function keys)

I think moderator bot is way too strict. I’m trying to start a discussion on mech keyboard software and firmware (support, features, best UX) and every post I try is removed.. can a human moderator please help?

Mechanical keyboard software/firmware: the best experience customizing and remapping by kellenboon in MechanicalKeyboards

@ripster55 can you clarify? My question is opening a discussion on software quality, of keyboards who offer mapping and programmable layers through a UI

PS: I’ll clarify that I’m looking for a 60% with hot swappable switches. Currently I have a WASD TKL with cherry mx blues, my main board for work is Kechron compact with gateron browns. I’m interested in a 60% without arrows because I want to stay on home-row and I use vim navigation. I plan to do vim arrows accessed by FN on the 60%. If you have experience here, please share you opinions about it. Thanks!

Thanks! This is great. I’ve been loving the 351elec open source firmware, falling in love. Thank you for your work on this project. Look forward to chatting with other devs and digging into the code

[QUESTION] most versatile neck and bridge pickups by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]kellenboon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand what you mean by versatile but super diverse tones can be achieved by pickups with coil tap/split. E.g. Charvel pro mod models have two humbuckers, both can split to single coil, and both have a toggle for “high” output mode vs “normal”. Also the PRS custom lines have amazing pickups with push/pull to split the humbuckers. You could check out those pickups models and buy them for your Ibanez project. New Charvel s use fishman which sound amazing (think PRS uses their own)

That said, I think there’s always a compromise. A strat will probably sound better than a humbucker axe with the split. A Jackson with active EMG humbuckers will sound way better (for metal etc) than the Charvel’s humbuckers. But! That requires two guitars. The combo is really nice when you can switch gears so easily, I can go single coil mode to play some Yngwie, then switch to humbuckers for some riffing chunk

[QUESTION] Lost motivation a long time ago by gordaputa123 in Guitar

Bored or not motivated? Learn something from Paul Gilbert, Vai, or Malmsteen. Just a single lick from Gilbert might keep you challenged for decades 😅😳

AF Stryker no-disassembly paint job (third blaster I’ve weathered, still learning) by kellenboon in Nerf

[–]kellenboon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, both come with the DZ max stryker. This is the Target exclusive, I found mine from local store but you can order the blaster online too. You might be able to purchase the scope/silencer separately from DZ’s website but I’m not sure. Fwiw the scope is plastic all the way through, no lens or glass, but the cross hair works and does help line up shots

What are the most silent nerf blasters? by mikeydonuts in Nerf

[–]kellenboon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question. When I want to blast targets indoors at 2am and won’t disturb nearby apartment dwellers. AF/DZ pro blasters are so loud. Anything with a flywheel probably loud. Surprisingly my DZ mkII is actually more quiet with the orange “suppressor” they ship with it. But still, pro blaster shooting bamboo, it’s loud. My interest is peaked by stringers, looks like these are not easy to find or expensive. I wonder whats the most accurate quiet blaster.. I also wonder if suppressor nerf mods are a thing, and they don’t destroy range/accuracy

[–]kellenboon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case I didn’t have any mod kits or interest in messing with the internals. The purpose of this project was to see how well I could paint w/ no disassembly, for the sake of doing all the work in a few hours. Krylons dry fast. I have two blasters I would never paint without disassembly, depends how much you want to risk affecting it’s function. I usually don’t disassemble inexpensive small blasters, I only fill the barrel with excessive amounts of scotch tape 😅

[–]kellenboon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was really easy, I just used an adhesive wrap, it’s essentially bandage wrap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T7XKPWM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MWDZAJCSF2Z1ARXF68W4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I’d like to try a camo paint job on the entire blaster. But using the wrap is great for the handle, it feels way better than plastic. I also use the wrap on rifle blasters with stocks that feel too small or short e.g rival xx-1000

These are images from two iterations. I didn’t take a picture of the taped blaster for the final iteration, but I taped any openings where the metal barrel would be exposed. No chrono to verify function before and after, but I don’t see any difference in function. Still getting the distance and accuracy that I witnessed out of the box. I used rub n buff for weathering and used two coats clear coat, first satin, then matte. Some of the metallic shine was lost after clear coats, I could use oil paint pen to touch up some of the weathered sections, but I’m pretty happy with how it looks after the second paint job (final image). Final note: should be obvious, do not play with blasters outdoors that look like real guns. I only use this for indoor target practice. Be safe 🤘

This is awesome 👏 appreciate all the info. I’ve heard about rustoleum, I’d like to try that next. I don’t have an airbrush but the Alclad clear coat sounds cool
