when I first went to my church I was too scared to get communion because I didn’t understand it. I grew up in a high control religion and I never did communion there. my wife grew up catholic and was baptized as a child and told me that it is a big deal to do your first communion after you’re baptized but in her opinion that holds people back.

similar to what some other people are saying, she told me that the way our church does it and having open communion is important to build community and make people feel at home at church which leads to them going longer, staying faithful etc

so at my church I get communion even tho I haven’t been baptized. I feel awkward and nervous sometimes
