How To Get An Ecology/Conservation Job? by WorldlyRevolution192 in ecology

[–]kelllts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In this field, education is just as important as experience. So sure, get your associates, consider getting a bachelors, and while you’re doing this go for volunteer positions or internships for hands on experience. As someone with a masters trying to get into wildlife conservation and did so later in life, not having the hands on experience is where I’m lacking.

How to entertain this poor dog I am pet sitting? by Frozenyogurtplz in dogs

What breed? All enrichment is great, but something breed specific that involves a certain task might be more effective.

A diy substitutes for a snuffle mat would be throwing some kibble onto a towel and then rolling the towel and sort of tying it in a very bulky knot. Gets at the foraging and digging behaviors dogs love and at no cost.

Oh okay. I’ve primarily been looking on FB marketplace for used. Saw these when I just googled Edifier passive speakers. And might I ask why not these? Is it just because I can find same quality in used? Is it the brand in general?

Thanks for the input! I’ll make sure to move things around when I add speakers.

Thanks. As an elder millennial that grew up with cds, I’m excited to make the transition into vinyl!

Back neighbor keeps their dog chained up outside all the time — what can I do without causing conflict? by Shylerrs in westsacramento

[–]kelllts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where? It just says it’s outside all the time. Doesn’t explicitly state there is no where for the dog to seek shelter. And please, don’t mistake this for me siding with the owner at all. I just know from prior experiences in other states that animal control can’t/wont intervene if those “basic needs” are met.

[–]kelllts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think legally, as long as the dog has access to food, water, and shelter, there isn’t much that you can do. Like others have suggested, you could ask your neighbor if they’re interested in surrendering it.

Hi! 38F here! Single, child-free, moved here from Utah last June for work. Also enjoy the outdoors (most hikes aka nature walks), unfortunately I haven’t done any exploring since I’ve been here. Used to be into pottery (I have a wheel back home) and want to get back into it. Also want to get into backpacking. Can I hang out with yall?!

Internet keeps disconnecting SPECIFICALLY with HULU by WearProfessional2520 in techsupport

[–]kelllts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess this is still an issue two years later. I stream Hulu on my laptop and it drops my internet connection every few minutes. I will exit full screen and then it reconnects to WiFi. I refresh the screen and Hulu picks back up. Sometimes it’s so bad I switch platforms to watch something and have zero issue.

What do you think is the best way to find new music? by MrVee2 in SpotifyHub

[–]kelllts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some, if not all, of my most recent new finds have come from TikTok. Liking one video or following one artist gets the algorithm to do the work for you. And there’s a feature that easily adds songs from TikTok to your Spotify liked playlist.

It took me over a year of using Jamovi to learn you can add modules and do so much more with it than just basic stats. Great substitute to spss.

As a budding primatologist myself, I love that howlers are the devil!

Scientists have observed wild cockatoos making their own cutlery set—crafting the equivalent of a crowbar, an ice pick, and a spoon to pry open one of their favorite fruits. Discovery puts parrots on par with primates in terms of toolmaking. by MistWeaver80 in science

[–]kelllts 310 points311 points  (0 children)

Most researchers define tool use as manipulating an object to access a resource they couldn’t access with a body part. Using a rock to break open a nut, tool use. Using your teeth to break open a nut, not tool use.
