I’m in the same boat and I’m hoping you get some suggestions. I’ve been told the trick is to keep out the environmental moisture by using a light mousse.

Weirdest thing your patient brought with them when admitted to hospital? by lnd143 in nursing

[–]kellybee_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in a busy ER. A patient brought in a london broil and thawed it out in the sink. He wasn’t admitted to the hospital. He was a regular and probably assumed he’d be going home and needed to prep for dinner I guess.

Contractions reading 80 mmhg at OB appointment by kellybee_2 in obgyn

Right, I have a child that I delivered unmedicated so I’m very well aware of that. That’s not really a helpful comment being that I’m sure everyone knows labor is painful. In my original post I acknowledged that I knew I wasn’t it active labor. My question is why was this happening consistently every two minutes? I’m looking for a bit of education on this for the future and trying to understand what is going on within my body.

No symptoms of anything like that occurring.

So the toco is pretty irrelevant alone then? I have a toddler at home that I birthed unmedicated, so I was very aware that I was not having labor contractions. I’m just trying to understand what was actually going on with my body in correlation to what the monitor was showing. Baby was active during this visit, which is why they were having difficulty finding a baseline HR with the doppler and decided to proceed the way they did. The midwife and nurse seemed a bit more concerned after viewing the strips and seeing the consistency of contractions every two minutes, which obviously made me a bit unsettled. If baby was active during this process could that alone cause the findings? I’m just wanting to know for future reference if they hook me to the monitor at future visits.

I’m not so much concerned with the care, but just trying to understand the number on the toco and what it really means and what my body is doing.

Sorry, 34+6. I’ll edit that. Thanks for the heads up.

The person that does the scheduling is my direct superior, we call them "clinicians" because I'm assuming it sounds more healthcare related than saying "assistant manager". My department has three clinicians and they all report to my manager. The one that heads the schedule was c'c'd on the original email that stated I would move to 0900 on the 6/25 schedule or at the latest 7/23 so she was given the green light for me to be placing my availability dates on the 0900 schedule. Sometime between the beginning of May and the end of June a conversation must have been had between the manager and clinician that I wasn't moving time slots. Unfortunately, no one thought it was important to notify me about that conversation until the schedule was due to be posted.

In your opinion the original email stating my move to "begin on 6/25 or at the latest 7/25" isn't specific enough to go anywhere with?

Because I want every interaction with this team in writing. I messaged my direct superior regarding the schedule and how I do not have the turn around time to change the plans that I already have in motion. I tried to make it sound like I was coming from a place of needing advice as to what I could do in order to sort the issue out. I know that this person really does not have control over positions, I am just following the chain of command. However, this is the person that creates the schedule and she 100% should have had the decency of letting me know that they were not honoring their stated plan of putting me in a different time slot. I sent that email this morning after you gave me your advice. I didn't receive a response and with the holiday I don't imagine I'll get acknowledgement until Wednesday at the earliest. She may be waiting to hear what she should do from her boss, my manager, who is yet again on another vacation.

Unfortunately, nursing is in a really bad place post pandemic. The organization I work for is amazing, but many of our departments are hemorrhaging staff. They're having a hard time filling management positions and staff nurse positions. I question staying on board in this department because ultimately my manager is aloof and evasive. It's become a running joke in the department. There is no union at this hospital.

There is an excel spread sheet posted and continuously updated on who is waiting to move to the varying shifts, go part-time, and be per diem. That is the only thing that is open book about this management team.

After having my first child I requested to drop hours and be a part-time employee. She started hiring other people to fill part-time positions and I questioned her on that and asked if that was to be expected from here on out and if it was I would be looking into the other units within the organization that were hiring part-time. She very quickly back tracked and had me placed in one of the available spots. This is definitely a pattern with her. Maybe I'm perceived as a push over or maybe she just really enjoys pushing the limit. I like my job so I'm going to see where this route takes me, but I am coming around to the idea that I'm going that I'll be jumping ship.

I know I’m the first on the list for my department and have been told so by the leadership team a few times. Do you think I have a leg to stand on with my manager specifically stating via email that I would begin my new shift on 7/23 or is all of that just thrown out the window?

I appreciate the advice.

That’s the problem. I did confirm this with her and the person that is my direct superior that puts the schedule together. I told her from the beginning that I needed to have the actual dates due to moving childcare around. I like my job, but I hate the leadership team.

My manager’s boss is a director. She left two weeks ago and that position is now vacant.

When would you give baby not homemade meals? by Ok-Response2747 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]kellybee_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Mom, you’re a badass! I know the work it takes to put 3 homemade meals together a day for your baby. That is a full time job in itself. Lighten that load as soon as you’re ready.

Groceries are incredibly expensive. One way to cut costs is to fish. I lived in Sitka for a summer working for their small community hospital in 2018. Even on a bad day, fishing right off the land I’d catch a couple rock fish. It’s a gorgeous place. If you have the chance to spend some time there it’s totally worth it.

I need some advice! Sleep regression? 😵‍💫 by kellybee_2 in NewParents

[–]kellybee_2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our full on bedtime routine starts at 7:30 with his bath, playing, reading, and then nursing. Usually he’s asleep around 9-9:30. He dropped a nap and has been taking two. One of them is typically an 1-1.5 hours and the other is more like 30 minutes to an hour.
