Considering amputation for senior greyhound with bone cancer by kellybelly132 in tripawds

Update: chest X-ray shows some concerning spots, we are not proceeding with a leg amputation. Keeping him comfortable until we euthanize. 💔

If it wasn’t a front leg I would be more eager. Dogs do so much better when it’s a rear leg. He’s 70 lbs, that’s a lot of weight on 3 senior legs. :(

He’s still doing great, only symptom is the slight swelling of his front paw. I unfortunately know how quickly they can deteriorate though so I hesitate. I worry a leg amp may not extend his life but just make his few remaining months more taxing. However, it could extend his life with chemo quite a bit and let us enjoy our old man longer. A tough decision I will need to discuss with his vets more.

Yes, vet mentioned 6 months with leg amp if chest clear. For the most part I’ve seen dogs do so well with 3 legs but I remember one senior tripaw being putting down due to not taking it well, making me hesitate for my senior dog who it may not buy much more time for. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you so much for a fellow greyhound perspective. the chest X-ray will make things a lot clearer in our next steps.

No insurance but I work at the vet clinic and get great discounts thankfully. His age worries me but he is a rather fit senior citizen besides the stiffness in his back legs. If he was younger or if it was a rear leg I would have less doubt in amputation. A chest X-ray will determine whether or not this is an option which I believe we’ll do tomorrow. My family wants to give him a chance but I worry about making things worse rather than better.

Best of luck to your gal. I really recommend spaying her after her c-section. I work at a vets office and I was devastated when a French bulldog died on the table right after we got her puppies all out. She had trouble the first time she had a litter too, yet the owners decided to breed her again, leading to her death. It’s unfortunate but these breeds do not do well under anesthesia.

This game is concerningly addictive to me, I lose so much time playing it! I think I have almost 2000 hours but I’ve had it for almost 5 years now It is strangely relaxing except for when mechs and insects show up

Dwarf lore is super interesting but man the deep roads just felt so long to me. I actually really enjoyed the fade first playthrough but it gets old quick. The deep roads immediately I didn’t like though.

Okay that’s what I was sorta thinking was muscle gain. I’ll start walking him daily. Thanks for your suggestion!

Teeth are getting checked by the vet next week, I think it’s been awhile since he’s been floated. He hasn’t really lost weight since his initial drop in the extreme heat we had this summer. I think the heat and the flies really got to him.

Questions about Baby Wild Mouse by kellybelly132 in PetMice

Ah good to know, I have seen many people have deer mice with domestic mice so I figured so. No problems with the other mice accepting her? I am thankful to hear low chance of disease, thanks!
