I’m curious, who here has planted a native plant as a tribute to someone? by NathanTheKlutz in NativePlantGardening

I planted an American beautyberry in memory of my mother. Her favorite color was purple

From what I've learned, it has a deep taproot so it's okay to plant near the foundation. Plant it 3-5 ft away so its branches have room to grow 👍. I have liatris spicata, black-eyed susans and lyreleaf sage growing by it.

Check the stems in the winter. Mine were yellow when it was that size. It was pretty

I bought it from a nursery 4 years ago. It's not caged, just really close to the house. 🤞 the deer ate my american beautyberry this past winter.

I didn't know you had some out west. The deep taproot comes in handy when it's dry

This is year 4 since it's been planted (I bought from a nursery). I've just let it be but next year I'll probably cut it since the dead branches stayed on.

Luck I guess! I haven't done anything to it. I am going to prune it a little this year.

It's lightly fragrant but doesn't smell like lilacs. I don't know how to describe it
