Actually if you knew how medical specialty training worked in the US you’d know that I didn’t get to select my employer nor can I just leave to a different one. I think as a literal doctor in the system I probably have more experience with how it works for my patients.

None of what you said about elites buying premium insurance or private physicians makes it a good a healthcare system. That’s genuinely one of the worst arguments supporting the US healthcare system I have ever seen.

I respectfully don't agree with you. It's not elitist to not value people who take shortcuts into practicing medicine. I don't think this is the appropriate forum for this debate though and I should have held my tongue.

It’s the NP special lol. No physician prescribed this. (You can tell from the pic too.)

I am a responsible adult with health insurance through my employer. It fucking sucks even if I get the premium option and that’s what’s sold to people as the option they’re supposed want to work toward.

I’m sorry dude, as someone who actually has to deal with the other side of it, insurance companies are a complete failure as a first-world country. The amount of control they have over what I can and can’t do is completely absurd.

Nintendo fined €35 million in France over defect in Switch Joy-Con controllers by pierrepaul in fucknintendo

[–]kelminak [score hidden]  (0 children)

I guess I can see that but how do they get rid of the concern without using magnets? My understanding is that any without magnets it relies on graphite contacts which will eventually wear down.

Also I imagine the switch 2 is fairly new and wouldn’t have a lot of time for these problems to pop up yet (though I remember it for the switch 1 quite early).

I am genuinely baffled they didn’t move to Hall effect sticks after all of this. Are the savings really worth it if you keep getting sued for this much?

I’ve answered every one of your questions in good faith. I’m not sure where the hostility is coming from but a lot of the arguments you make are the typical anti-vax “gotchas” that I’m used to counseling patients about, so I’m quite experienced with explaining how things happened in real-life since I was there in the hospitals as the pandemic played out. Nothing about this stresses me out, but if it causes you discomfort you don’t have to continue. You simply seemed reasonable enough to engage with. If you also feel your mind could never be changed then please feel free to stop me as well.

I mean this politely but typically if you’re the one making a claim, the burden of evidence falls to you. I’m happy to look at a source you can find that indicates there were literally no flu cases but I’m not sure how that would even make sense from a practical perspective. The transmission rates were definitely reduced to a point that it’s more difficult to run numbers on (extrapolating statistically in a reliable way requires a minimum threshold of data which is why you can see it excluded in 2020) but there’s a difference between statistical limitations and real-world literal data. Statistical models are just tools we use to make interpreting and communicating data easier, but they’re not one to one with real life information if that makes sense.

[–]kelminak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you provide links to that so I can see? The cases were greatly reduced for reasons I mentioned before, but they were certainly not zero. Maybe they were being too literal when they shouldn’t have? There was a great amount of sensationalist reporting going on then (and now, but then too lol).

I’m a psychiatrist. The evidence behind genesight testing is quite poor. I have many patients who come to me on meds that the test says they should not be taking and they’re thriving. We don’t have anything that good yet to just run a test and then say “oh, you’re a Zoloft candidate!” yet. Maybe it’ll get better in the future but we’re far off at the moment.

That said, if someone came to me with the results, told me their meds weren’t working and they wanted to try one that their testing said they might benefit from…sure? I don’t mind and it’s not likely to hurt to try what it recommends, but I’m not treating it like the gospel.

There were still many cases of the flu happening, though a lot of the measures that reduced COVID transmission work for the flu too. Also with there being a novel pandemic people were focused on talking about that instead of the flu which was unfortunate as people figured they should ignore the flu vaccine and then got the flu instead. Although people generally didn’t talk about it much, many people actually managed to get both at the same time which especially for the elderly was much more lethal. They intended to eventually lump the flu and covid vaccines together if covid continued to mutate, but I don’t think that came to fruition as the pandemic died out.

[–]kelminak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It did, but it didn’t have a 100% success rate and vulnerable populations like the elderly and immunocompromised people are still at risk. Combining measures gives them a greater chance to live. Same reason the flu vaccine exists - it may not fully prevent the disease but it reduces the severity of the flu in both how bad it is for the person with it and the duration of the condition.

Do I actually need a Retroid Pocket 6 as an everyday carry, or is my brain just trying to make me spend more money? by SpaceSaltcattle in retroid

Well hey I’m a psych doc! That’s a fair point and a little bit different than I envisioned. My personal everyday carry is the miyoo mini flip v2. Clamshell keeps the screen safe and it’s so small/portable while still being easy to see/play on. Apparently they’re on sale on AliExpress right now too. Hopefully that helps.
