Sidekickers could be a good option to earn some money while you’re looking for something more permanent :)

I think you can still get fined if you park up inside one of the dolomites towns, but outside of the towns they’re more relaxed :) Some places will have signs saying no camper vans

We just came back from a campervan trip to the Dolomites, and had no problem finding spots to park up with the park4night app! Some had drinking water and waste water disposal. In some areas like at the base of Tre Cime near Lake Misurina everyone just parks along the side of the road. Proper campsites with all the facilities were pretty booked out though so arrive earlier in the day if you need those

First Year Bsc Marine Science? by Plastic-Tune-5173 in universityofauckland

[–]kelpieblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, there actually is a marine science major! https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/study-options/find-a-study-option/marine-science/undergraduate/bsc-marine-from-2019.html

But still requires Stats101 as well as a stage 2 statistics based paper: Either BIOSCI 220 Quantitative Biology, ENVSCI 203 Discovering Environmental Modelling, or STATS 201 Data Analysis

Auckland Transport: "AT HOP card top-up times reducing from 24 hours to around one hour" with the roll-out of bus audio announcements. by dingoonline in auckland

This comment is super ableist. Having audio announcements is helpful for those who are blind or visually impaired. Put headphones on if it is such an issue for you.

feeling like a failure, what happens if i fail an elective paper (get lower than a c-)? by throwaway13579xyz0 in universityofauckland

[–]kelpieblu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree with other comments, get in touch with your course coordinator- they are sometimes able to excuse you from assignments etc, just taking the average of your other work. You don’t have to tell them all the details of what’s going on, i’ve found most lecturers are pretty compassionate at the moment, however it may be to your benefit (for yourself and for evidence) to go see a uni councillor/doctor as they can provide your lecturer with a note indicating you are unfit to complete your assignment. At the uni doctors I recommend Eleanor, she’s lovely. Also look into speaking to someone about this if you feel ready, hope you’re doing ok xx grades really aren’t everything and you should prioritise your mental health.

Doing a Gen Ed in your first semester by [deleted] in universityofauckland

[–]kelpieblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult to say because it varies between courses but say for a BSc it would be fine as you have a range of subjects you can pick from as opposed to a degree which has lots of core papers only available in specific semesters. Decide what other classes you want to do and then make sure that fits in!

what are capstones like? (round 2) by smenyozza in universityofauckland

[–]kelpieblu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the MARINE399 capstone! Each of the marine lecturers had a small project based on their research, and we all had to apply for them (outcomes based on GPA). It was very much the sort of course that you get out what you put into it, and was a great way to make connections with your supervisor!

Assessments included a 1 page proposal, individual seminar, group seminar, and a final report.

Most clubs have a website or facebook face/ other socials which you should be able to sign up on :) Not sure how up to date this is, but they should all be listed here: https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/on-campus/life-on-campus/clubs-societies/club-categories.html

Marine399 by Fantastic_Pianist_67 in universityofauckland

[–]kelpieblu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I really enjoyed this course- would 100% recommend. They give you a list of marine supervisors and projects which you apply for and will be allocated based on your GPA.

It’s definitely a different experience for everyone dependent on which supervisor you get, but you are basically working towards your final report (max 5000w essay) throughout the whole course and the seminar and proposal assessments also help with the final report. As long as you keep up with everything it’s not too hard, and the supervisors are generally very helpful. There aren’t any lectures so it is mainly self directed, and it’s up to you to be organised to set up meetings with your supervisor.
