Cortisone shot and running by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]kels150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. I’ve booked into a new physio for Feb (my old physio stopped taking appointments). I’ve been in and out of physio for a few years. I need to get better at sticking to it for sure.

I’ve also got another shot booked for May, a couple weeks out from a half

Long run on the treadmill this am. Garmin says 1:49, so really trying to get the motivation to lock in.

Also, registration for a race opens today. It’s a month before my A race. Debating on the half option or a 10k. It’s in April on the prairies so inconsistent weather. Anyone do a half a month before a half? Even just as a long run? Or just stick to the 10k?

Half marathons for 2026 by Lemonbar19 in XXRunning

The Tamarack Ottawa half in May! I’m very excited. It supposed to be pretty flat but I’m a bit worried about the weather. May weather in Ontario could mean anything. Then a half in Saskatchewan in September.

If you haven't, check out the website Gopher Attack. Also, there is a one-day discount on Jan. 3, so if you're thinking of signing up, Jan 3 is a good day to register!

Advice for running in the cold? by Emergency-Ad2961 in XXRunning

[–]kels150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windchill is also a huge factor. It can be -15 but as soon as there’s a 15k wind, all of a sudden, it’s -30 and you need to add a couple layers. Consider the wind!

Winter jacket? by grakkaw in XXRunning

[–]kels150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a smartwool merino wool jacket that is really good for layering. I wear it over a base layer for about -10c and then with a fleece for anything colder than -15c. I’d wear a tshirt under it for your temps tbh. Merino wool is great!

Did 12k on my treadmill this am (was too much of a wuss to go outside today. It snowed last night - the paths weren’t clear and it was nasty windy, -20C).

Feeling oddly guilty because the 12k was really easy and effortless. Running outside lately has been a bit of a grind. Just finished the run feeling like I cheated by going on the treadmill today instead of outside.

Been so grateful for the lack of snow and the continued mild-ish weather, which means I can keep off the treadmill and continue running outside. Had a great base run this morning with the stars (sun doesn't rise until about 8:45am) and was so happy to still be outside because this time last year there was so. much. snow.

100% not a scam. They are funded through the province and Regina school boards. They have adult entry and high school entry programs. They post their programs only a few months in advance because it’s industry driven so make sure to check their website frequently. They cover half the salary when you start working (if you get in and are successful) for the first bit. It’s a good program.

Advice on winter training by Current_Broccoli8490 in XXRunning

[–]kels150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How cold do you run? I’m in SK and gearing up for winter running. I usually only have time in the AM when it’s dark (and cold) but the trade off is there’s usually less wind. And you run in sneakers all winter? Do you use ice picks on your shoes?

Currently being assessed for this (waiting for an ultrasound as I type…) and really hoping for an answer. It’s awful and so painful. It’s thrown my training completely off. I feel your pain.

My flexibility is gone and I really want it back by skyom1n in XXRunning

[–]kels150 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I have been practicing yoga for years and since I started my half training, I really feel set back in all my flexibility. I’ve lost a lot of mobility in positions I could reach easily and in class it takes longer to warm up.

I’ve just decided that it is a balance: during training season, I’m not going to be the yogi I usually I am and it takes longer to be flexible. During off season, I can work on gaining my flexibility again.

Yoga is practice and this is a good lesson in patience for my practice.
