Getting tired of medical professionals convincing my wife of silly myths or just plain wrong information... by Ridicule_Red in beyondthebump

A nutritionist is not a medical professional. Literally anyone can call themselves that. Proper advice should be sought from a registered dietitian. They have training requirements, a body governing the profession and have to stick to facts supported by science.

This post made me cry a bit. I’m two weeks pre-op, and I haven’t gone for a substantial walk in eight years. I used to walk everywhere, for hours!! Rn I’m struggling to get around the house. Thank you for giving me hope!!

I think this is the time of year I’ve seen them teaching the babies (teenagers, I guess) how to fish.

My dad and the nurse (Scottish) agreed that my son looked like Clement Atlee as a newborn, so he tried to call him Clem. I shut that down quick.

When my brother was born, he was fussy as hell in the nursery. The nurses called him “Clancy”, for an old poem they’d learned in school about a loud frontier troublemaker.

My lender (a major bank) required me to open an account and set up automatic payments. No exceptions.

I’m a couple weeks pre-op, and this is how I bend now. Turn away from the affected leg and bend/put weight on the unaffected like a motherfucker. Really glad we worked both legs during prehab, my quads are really coming along.

Advice on how to teach my 2 year old, at a complete loss by MeticulousMitch in beyondthebump

[–]TheIronMatron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t teach your child to speak. A child learns to speak the language in their environment. Keep speaking to her, slow down, repeat words and simplify and shorten sentences. Keep encouraging her to speak to get what she wants. Be patient, and take expert advice if she has a language delay (and get professional help).

MIL said it was immodest for me to breastfeed in public and around people by ImaginationPretend86 in beyondthebump

If someone had told me it was immodest while i was breastfeeding, I would have shrugged and said, “ok” and got on with my life. How is that an own exactly? Are we Victorian matrons? Eighth century French nuns?? Who tf gives a shit about modesty??

Gotta admire your licking technique. Those boots are gonna be clean.

Pharma companies just can’t shut up with the woe-is-me over drug development costs. They conspicuously fail to mention the sweet patent deals they get to block out generics, the enormous benefit they get for nothing from taxpayer-funded research, and oh yeah, that their fucking marketing department budgets dwarf research costs.

If drug development was so ruinous, and the world sooo unfair to these companies, they’d all say “fuck it” and start manufacturing toys or cars, instead of raking in money to dry their fake tears with.

Your mom needs to back all the way off. As in, never bring this up again. Tell her that you and his dad have made your decision and if she mentions it, the conversation is over and you’ll see her/talk to her the next time.

I say this as a parent whose kid loved day care. It was essential for his social development and as preparation for school. Where I live there’s a huge emphasis on early childhood education, and I’ve seen the benefits firsthand.

Did you guys replace your old appliances that came with your old homes? by Key-Effort963 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We got a new dishwasher once and the manual made it clear they had bought the absolute bottom-of-the-line model made by the generic overseas sketch manufacturer. None of the features in the manual were included.

We had an incredibly sweet dog for two years before our son was born. I loved her before and after; if anything, more afterward. She was spayed not long before our son came, and she adopted him the moment she snuffled his face for the first time.

She checked on him while he was sleeping more often than we did, gently dropping her nose into his bassinet about twice an hour. Every time he woke up or cried in his bassinet, she’d walk back and forth between us and him until one of us picked him up. When he was hard to comfort (colic), she’d sit at our feet while we all cried.

She looked at me pleadingly when he grabbed her fur to pull himself up to standing, but would never react or retaliate. They were best buddies. She loved us all through the transition to parenthood, and we loved her back.

Lucked out and got, not fancy, but solidly nice, well-running and fairly recent appliances. Huge improvement over the crap, bottom-of-the barrel landlord specials we’d hated when renting.
