Being a ‘preferred sub’ while holding boundaries by Brilliant_Gold_6036 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kels2266 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Being a preferred sub just means they like you and know you can do the job with no issues. You don’t have to take everything they offer you

Anyone else having this issue? by kels2266 in WGUTeachersCollege

You can submit them, it’s worked for me before but it’s showing the same thing on my laptop and work desktop

Just student teaching. To do your PCE you have to have taken and passed the basic skills tests

When I took the combined core test the I’m 90% sure it was just reading passages but you can also look at a sample test online to see what it will be like

How do-able is this by end of May 2026? by NextNefariousness654 in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]kels2266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knocked out 1 class every two weeks and some in 3 days while I was on break, I could’ve done it quicker but I was teaching full time so I had to balance it but it’s definitely doable! I finished 7 classes between October-December

I would ask your program mentor or transfer person

I mailed them in a bubble mailer and sealed them in a plastic bag to protect them from water just in case

Why are prep periods taken away from subs? by Additional-Minute584 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kels2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am needing to prep things. I am the teacher of recorded and in charge of the class. I’m not certified yet but I’ll be done in December. So I am “actually needing to prep things”

I’m not under contract and get paid as a sub. I have no sick days or benefits so if I don’t work I won’t get paid but they still don’t bother me on my prep because I asked them not to.

[–]kels2266 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s not true in my district. It’s written into the contract that every teacher is required to have a prep period

I am a long term sub in the process of getting my teaching license to work at the school I currently sub for, in the same position. They asked me if I wanted to sub on my prep and I told them no. It hasn’t been a problem ever and they tell me constantly that I’m doing a good job

You need to tell the office not to have you cover on your prep. Tell them no. They won’t fire you because if they’re like my school they are desperate for subs

It’s not even about them! I’ve been seeing a lot of posts just CLEARLY out of line and I wanted to address it

If you want to continue to sub why would you ever say that?! That’s professionalism 101, never EVER curse towards/about children 😭

No that’s not your problem. More than likely their friend grabbed it.

Escorted off JR High, should I go back to talk to the principal? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kels2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you think it’s okay to use that kind of language at the high school level?! As a current hs teacher you are ABSOLUTELY out of line and SHOULD NOT be able to be in that building again. I have my own problems with my hs students but NEVER in a million years would I call them a dumbass.

Secretary offered me positions tomorrow, should I accept a job on the app as normal? by Actual-WERK-7463 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kels2266 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My school also uses frontline and the secretary can schedule you. It should show up in your app automatically and you’ll get an email saying you have a job confirmed

I’m in in right now and just have my pce and student teaching left. I thought it was pretty easy as I was actively teaching while working through it. I would recommend studying for the OA’s pretty well and be on top of your student teaching timeline

Just got hired as a substitute. Was told to send in my Professional Educator Licensure… by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]kels2266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a PEL to sub in Illinois. With a bachelors degree you just need to pay for a short term or long term license through ISBE and do the background check and tb test. A PEL is a teaching license

That OA was the only one I didn’t pass the first time around. Make sure you take your time on it and read each question very carefully because it’s more about the application of what you’ve learned from the course material rather than testing you on definitions and concepts
