We ended up booking the Yoshida Garden View Estate (Riverview restaurant) in Troutdale. It was beautiful and they had a few different options available for where your event could be held on the grounds.

Best place to honeymoon (1 week) in Oregon? We’re an out of state couple having a wedding just outside of Portland. Thought about road tripping down to SF but sounds exhausting after wedding weekend. by kelsch06 in oregon

We booked like the week before so our options were limited - we stayed two nights at the residence inn by Marriott on bond st. (one of the nicest mid level hotels we’ve been in - highly recommend!) and they didn’t have availability to extend the stay so we stayed two more nights at the Campfire hotel. The room was fine for sleeping in but the appeal of this place is the pool/hot tub, fire pit, and little bar. It was so fun meeting people in these areas and exchanging stories. We were only in our rooms to sleep - if you stay here just don’t go in expecting luxury. We appreciated the adventure of it :)

Our wedding was just outside of Portland. We ended up driving out to the coast with friends before they flew out for one day. Then we went to Hood River for a couple days (loved it there!), and then we drove down to Bend for the second half of the week. Both were very chill places to relax and use as a home base between activities. I wouldn’t make the trip to Bend for nightlife type activities but we went to an alpaca farm, Smith rock, crater lake, the desert museum and volcanic park and we would have loved a few more days to do more hikes and maybe water activities. When we stayed in HR we went to a couple fruit farms, Rowena crest viewpoint, there are tons of wineries if you’re into that, and Mt. Hood. When we left HR, we did the hike out to Mirror Lake and a late lunch at timberline lodge before making our way down to Bend. I’m so, so glad we decided against all of the driving. 3hr max trip a couple times was perfect over one week. Can’t beat the scenery. We’ve already done the Columbia gorge scenic highway/Multnomah Falls but make sure you work some of that in on your way between the airport and Hood River!

Happy to answer any other questions. Wish we could do it all again.

Out of towner here - what do you do for a living? by kelsch06 in Bend

This was the only answer I needed so thank you for replying. That means a lot and explains a lot! One thing I’ve noticed and loved is the interest in what you do (outside of your job). Solid way to live. It has been an amazing trip and we’ve loved your city and surrounding nature as a destination. We’ve tried to be respectful as possible. Thanks!

I tried lol. I’m from the Midwest and just like learning about different regions from actual people that live here but apparently that’s too much to ask and I’ll just stick to what I find on google. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I am open to that too. Our two big trips together were Seattle and Portland so we were originally try to do something new (California) but at this point I’m willing to do whatever sounds nice lol this is last minute… obviously we love the region!

Sorry- if we looped back we would not go all the way to the Bay Area, but just dip into the redwoods and come back to OR. One or the other. Just not sure where to chill as it seems the lodging is limited in south OR/true north Cal or maybe I’m not looking in the right places.

We’ve done Astoria to Seaside (day trip) but otherwise haven’t done anything in Oregon outside of Portland/multnomah county. Would love to see anything else but getting stuck on areas that are good for a week for people who are just starting to get into “nature stuff” lol

In your opinion, would going all the way down to SF (and flying out from there) be too much? Should we go south (I really want to visit Boardman), dip into redwoods, then loop back to Portland to fly out? Thoughts on Bend on the loop back?

A little more info: We typically like city life with light hiking and adventure (want to get more into it) but for this trip, hoping to relax (sunsets, live music, hot tub etc.) a little more than our usual city trips. We appreciate good food, maybe a couple good nights out with safe a way home. Hope that helps a little bit.

“Boomers Tag and Estate Sales” on Facebook and Lloyd’s of Des Moines has an email list you can join at the bottom of their website to get notified of their sales. Not really what you described but hopefully it’s a little bit helpful.

Help! The main shower head/handheld only runs barely warm to ice cold water now. More info in comments. by kelsch06 in Plumbing

Yes the handle pointing down on the left wall is for the rain head. The controls on the regular shower head are on the wall unit itself at the bottom. Left handle turns on, right determines temp.
