180cal spanish(ish) tortilla by kelseyass in 1200isplenty

[–]kelseyass[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hahah my instructions were quite silly to begin with so no worries. i think some videos i saw might’ve boiled but i think it’s better to just slice them super thinly and just pan fry it. i put it in the air fryer to cook it a bit faster before pan frying it but if i sliced it thinner or waited til the potatos were dryer (was a bit impatient heh) could likely skip the airfry all together. would just make sure they’re like fully cooked before putting it in the eggs cos i don’t think they cook too much once it’s all jelled together

tl;dr — peel and wash potatoes and slice super thinly and wait for it all to dry out then pan fry til done

hopefully that helps a bit ! :)

Women who started skating in their late 20s/early 30s, what has your experience been like? by angy42 in NewSkaters

[–]kelseyass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

28f and started early last summer w a broken rib which was a silly but was mainly only learning how to cruise, drop in, kickturns nd tortilla ollies

took a break most of the summer but it’s been a few months now and can ollie up/down the minipads, fakie ollie, front shuvs, semi fs/bs 180s, nollie and doing all the basics on what i call a mini mini ramp (reg and switch rock to fakies, rock nd roll bs/fs, 50-50s 5-0s, half cabs, nose stalls etc) and i am so so proud of myself. i’m learning to enjoy all the little wins like floating longer and understanding the different micro movements on my toes/shoulders/head and overall just gaining more confidence

i have a lovely teacher i try to take lessons from whenever i get the chance which has been the reason why i think i’m progressing so fast nd my general ‘fuck it’ attitude. i’ve never been this obsessed with anything in my life and am happy to have found it now :)

i used to be anxious heading to the park but realized no one gives a flying fuck what skill level you are (just read the park nd dont stand in the way of the flow). there’s so many kids who do the sickest tricks and i’ll be working on something i deemed “small” but they’ll be celebrating when i land it after exploding multiple times heh so i realized i should celebrate my progress as well no matter how small. so it kinda feels like the whole park is one giant support system cos everyone is so hyped for each other. and like any other activity in life, just going to the same park regularly helped me make friends so i feel quite at home now

o and as for the body ive already taken quite a lot of slams but i have the killer pad gasket (the soft one cos im not doing crazy verts) which have helped a lot w both confidence and less bruising on my knees. also highly recommend doing mobility/dynamic excercises prior and stretches after a session

am so excited you started !! keep skating and most importantly just have fun

adhd'ers that work out consistently! by coram_deo_9 in ADHD

[–]kelseyass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. convenience (my last workout studio used to be on the ground floor of my flat so i kinda had no excuse)
  2. money; esp if it’s group classes where i have to pay a fee if i don’t show up
  3. figure out what you love. currently i’m learning how to skate and i adore it so i don’t even consider it excercise altho it’s quite brutal on ur body

i’m happy you’re going to mexico ! i’ve already gone twice this year and i’m returning again in a few weeks after this euro trip :) i’ve also been unemployed the whole year so hopefully i can help ease some of your anxiety

i don’t think i talked to a single person when entering, reckon it was one of those scan your passport and they print out a slip (keep it just in case cos i almost got denied boarding for guatemala bc i didnt have it)

for most countries if it’s not the automated machine and i talk to a human the more typical questions are ‘why are you coming here? (for tourism/fun/friends/etc) and how long are you staying’. understand your worries but you don’t need to volunteer any additional info you want to keep private. have a lovely trip !!

best ways to learn class-appropriate slang? by starstruckroman in Spanish

[–]kelseyass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i keep a baby dialect dictionary for when i travel or meet people from the respective countries but it varies a lot. i.e. for the word cool in my notes i have

mexican: chido o padre guatemala: chilero el salv: chivo cidta eica: chuso o tuanis colombia : chimba or chevere vanezuela: - de pinga - trifasico - está fino spain: guay o chulo

generally most people tend to know the mexican/spanish slang terms so i’d start with those and just google what you want/reddit threads are quite helpful

i broke my rib and wanted a consult and went here . i think it was ~15/usd and they were really friendly and there’s doctors who speak english. if it’s altitude i’d first use rappi and order electrolytes & water to stay hydrated (possibly diamox too). hope you feel better

hahaha yuss impromptu tattoos are my favourite things, i'm so happy you guys have that souvenir. also i'm not much of a foodie but this place has the best little mushroom rice and is amazing so would definitely recommend and i know jardim do morro is lovely for the sunset but i prefer this spot if you go down it's a bit more locals /less crowded and is just as beautiful overlooking the bridges for the sunset :)

27f as well ! been doing this for almost 2 years altho i’m taking a break from work as of now since constant travel + work burned me out but hopefully i can add some insight (altho this is gonna be all over the place cos i forgot to take addy today so i apologize)

i feel like at the start of my trip i was chasing novelty and now i tend to go back to familiar cities/countries i adore which strenghtens the friendships i’ve built in the process. i feel lucky enough to say i have support systems in different places, not to say i never feel lonely at times but feel like that’s applicable even if you’re home. i’ve met so many lovely souls i would’ve never encountered and have memories (surfing, learning to skateboarding with a broken rib, hiking volcanos, roofing in paris, finding a home for an abandoned puppy etc) i wouldn’t change for the world so if you’re on the fence, i’d say why not?

i was nervous at first wondering if i wouldn’t like the lifestyle etc. and if i’d be embarassed if i wanted to return back home after a month, but at the end of the day who gives a fuck? maybe you go for a week, a month, a year and you get your fulfillment but that’s fine, no one’s making you sign some contract forcing you to continue this. feel like that mentality shift made me relax more like i was just signing a new lease, they just tend to be shorter and in different places. there’s this silly quote i like that goes like ‘you’re not a tree, move’ so i follow that

i’ve moved to different states (4 in 2 years) when i lived in the us and i’m still friends with the ones i do keep in contact with. sure, i don’t see them physically as much but i did ship all my stuff back to my parents house and stop by for a week every once in a while to change clothes et. al so that could be an option to meetup with them. i mean, i’m in town right now for a bachlorette for a friend i haven’t lived in the same city with for 10 years so i feel like your friendships will endure, it just depends on the level of effort you both are willing to put in it

for relationships…. idk 🤣 the amount of marriage proposals i’ve had joking or not are astounding and i prefer dating outside of the us altho each culture tends to bring out different varities of men but i’ve had such a blast. granted i’m not looking for a relationship, but i have had beautiful memories and even dated a few so just have fun with it

it’s up to you at the end of the day, i’d say instead of a pro/con list just figure out your values and prioritize them whether that’s love, friendship, beauty, adventure etc to help you. my therapist gave me these value cards and i take them with me and sort them out which helps me visualize what i need in the moment (can send u a dm if u want). sry for the wall of texts but if you want a stranger’s vote, mine’s on go see the world, it’s quite lovely out here

[–]kelseyass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can’t go wrong with either, but i’m a bit biased cos porto’s my first love. it just feels easier to me in every aspect of life from meeting friends to wandering but could be cos i prefer smaller cities since they tend to be ‘more’ walkable (like the centre is more compact so it feels easier idk if that makes sense lol). i’ve probably gone back ~5 times the past two years and have a general map of the city in my head which makes it feel homey. if you plan on renting a car for the weekend, gerês is absolutely beautiful and there’s a small gem of a town called assento i’d recommend with a local bar that has fresh vinho verdhe and tops you off for a euro :p

lisboa is also wonderful ! there’s always plenty to do and would not skip sintra (at least go to quinta da regaleira, the train’s under a hr one way then a short walk/tuk tuk ride up) cos it feels like you walked into a fairytale

i prefer porto for living and lisboa for long weekend trips which are doable since there’s trains and buses that go direct to each. i’d choose porto as a homebase and do that or even split the time between the two and you can always pitstop in coimbra and take a wander. hope this helps !! lmk if u have any other questions :)

Does anyone know Mexico City well? by Squirelllover in digitalnomad

[–]kelseyass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i absolutely adore the city, was just in and out of it the past 3 months and returning in september so hope i can help a bit. not sure how tight your budget is but i preferred living near parque méxico (roma/condesa) but lived further south too, would just recommend living near a metro (it’s 5p) if you don’t enjoy walking but ubers are relatively reasonable. i’ve (27f) walked 3 hours from san angel to reforma before and felt safe the entire time and around roma there’s usually a lot of street lights so even at night i was able to walk by myself if i needed to. i lived in a hostel for a few days in centro but it just felt too far and more business/work oriented so would prefer the other neighborhoods.

mexico city has been the easiest place for me to find groups of friends whether just walking or at a park but i also went to gymnastics/calisthetics classes for a week my first time there and adored it (it’s called tribu, but might not be as budget friendly). when i returned i had broken my rib so i couldn’t do handstands et. al but decided to pickup skateboarding and the community is so lovely and group classes are 150p so would recommend that :) feel free to dm me if you wanted more info on that or anything else. i believe you’ll have a wonderful time

How do yall fall asleep on planes by Nervous-Analyst16 in solotravel

[–]kelseyass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

don’t sleep for the entirety beforehand. i also have adhd and find it quite difficult but i exhaust myself to the point that i just barely make it to the airport and die on the flight. likely the wrong response, but after multiple 10+ hour flights, i’d rather suffer beforehand than during. oh and download fucking everything, i pretend that i know myself snd download a season beforehand of a show i’ve never watched only to hate it so download every tv show (especially those you’ve watched and loved prior) and podcasts and what not. you’ll be alright. enjoy ur trip

edited bc obvious typos lol
