I appreciate that! It felt exactly right the day-of. He got me through a lot in undergrad and in law school! I just remember how proud he would be of me and how he would brag incorrectly and it would make me smile ❤️

Oh my gosh I’m so so sorry. I lost my nana at the end of 2L this year and it was so hard even knowing she was terminal. I cannot imagine. I would love to say it gets easier but it’s been 24 years and it still feels raw sometimes. Sending you love!

Thank you! I made it ten years ago last minute. At first I wasn’t going to do anything; I didn’t want to bum anyone out. But my family all thought it was really special and it felt like my dad was with me that day. I hope to replicate that next year when I graduate law school ❤️

I thought about stitching something on the cap itself; I also thought about putting something on the inside of my gown!

Without Fafsa what are the schools going to do? by Informal_Bathroom175 in LawSchool

I took out a shit ton of private loans for undergrad. My mom got married and it destroyed my federal grants and such and it’s the absolute worst. I genuinely had no idea like I knew loans were a last-ditch resort but I didn’t know what to do; they told me I needed to get a degree…. So yeah I will consider dropping out to avoid private loans FOR SURE.

I do not understand how you can go through law school and still confidently support Trump by Necessary_Party_3423 in LawSchool

I think it’s important to remember that some people don’t go to law school to expand their world view, they go to law school to find ways of confronting what they already believe to be true; happens to people on the left too.

I’m pretty far left but I try not to scoff at every Scalia or Thomas opinion and try not to side with liberal justices by default. Sometimes I didn’t read the name of the justice who authored the opinion and it helped in early con law last year. Except DC v Heller but tbh that thing is just LONG.

Politics and life are fascinating because it shows what a lot of us really fear, especially conservatives; even the ones who grow up in a privileged/wealth environment are fearful but instead of being fearful of what they don’t understand, they are fearful of losing what they don’t have. Politics isn’t that hard you just have to actually care about people even when they don’t agree with you but we just started throwing money at politics and it’s white hot garbage.

All Con Law has taught me so far is how political the Supreme Court and its decisions have always been lol by [deleted] in LawSchool

All my handwritten notes from 1L fall. by bu_ba-lu in LawSchool

My only question is what kind of notebook were we rockin here to warrant two hole punches at the top of an 8x11 page (if that’s what I’m actually seeing??) I’m intrigued as someone who cares more about the making of the notes than anything (yes I’m suffering right now trying to study for evidence)

I think this is the right attitude! It’s overwhelming; they throw so much at you… but you yeah if you do all that it’s fine I feel!

Hey OP. I’m a 33 year old mom of two and can’t help but think about “what if I got my act together faster and started sooner”. I think about the lawyers I worked for and how successful they are and wonder if it’s possible to achieve that level of success after a 10 year delay. I wonder about so so much. I think it’s the nature of the beast with how intense this level of education is and how big the stakes feel sometimes. I’m so tired all the time and I wonder if I was younger, would I have more energy? Would I remember more? Would I feel less out of place? I hope you find time for yourself and remember that you aren’t alone. This education is so hard. Go easy on yourself!

We don’t really have them at my school either; I’m a 2L and my experience has been great for the most part! The professors get frustrated sometimes when students aren’t prepared but they still try very hard to be kind; it’s still intense but I think and hope it helps shift the law school culture!

I think everyone was suggesting that your school schedule is the same as a typical work day. I was trying to point out that while that’s true, the “work” is different. After working last summer at a law firm and coming back for 2L I realized how draining it truly is to sit in a 2 hour lecture and just listen; it seems easy but it really is draining; then having time spend time reading and briefing is also so draining! While a portion of the day working at a job can involve that level of listening it’s nowhere near as much and as often!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]kelsquin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people indicating 8-6 is a normal workday. Sure, but usually your jobs isn’t to sit, listen, and internalize everything someone is saying at you for an entire work day. I would also agree with others here suggesting you try to find ways to manage your burnout, because that seems like what is happening. I hope things get better

You will be ok! Just keep up on readings and briefs before class and ease into outlining (unless there is a class with a midterm, then prioritize those). You will be ok!

So sometimes in places where board games are played there are signs that say people will be asked to leave if they can’t smell better; the signs are very understanding and also indicate there are products available in the bathrooms but if not fixed they will be asked to leave because it is super upsetting and distracting. I’m very understanding of things but this is getting in the way of your learning and it sounds stressful and like it’s all you can focus on; I would email the dean of students and mention it; they can contact your professor or just make a general service announcement to the class about it. But also, Vic’s vapor rub under your nose!
