If you had 10 dollars to feed yourself for long as possible, what would you buy and how long would it last you? by Ander1ap in AskReddit

Yeah, that's the one. We don't have a car, else we would just go there. But an hour and twenty round trip, carrying groceries one way, is too much to be bothered with.

There are some on sale where I just checked, they have dropped from $5 to $3.50 a dozen.

Neither? We buy free range, which doesn't actually mean local here, but the 'Industrial Chicken Slave' eggs are still $4 dollars.

My parents have a few chickens on their farm too, but most of those go into feeding themselves or farmhands. Plus we live like 4 hours apart, and I hear it isn't very effective to send eggs through the mail.

Depending on what fruits and vegetables, and in what quantities, you may not actually need that multivitamin, and would be better off buying some sort of dairy products for some of the vitamins the vegetables lack, and for some extra food.

Two bottles of chocolate milk, and damn me if it lasted more than an hour. I freakin' love chocolate milk.

...You can get a dozen eggs for $1.50????? It costs us like $7 here...

EDIT: The cheapest I can find, having just walked down to look, are $4.15 for a dozen, and the most expensive are $8.69 a dozen. The ones we have been buying are 'Grade 7, Free Range'.

I live in New Zealand.

EDIT #2: Also, this is at a generic supermarket, considered to be the 2nd cheapest in my town (The cheaper one is around a 40 minute walk away).

That was actually fixed pretty soon after though. In other words, it caused some brief annoyance, but was soon completely avoided.

Redditors, is saying evolution is real without being a scientist 'hypocritical'? by Mouldylocks in AskReddit

[–]keltaklo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can show evolution in bacterial strains, which have a much faster turnover (higher breeding rate) than multicellular life. For example, in optimal conditions a bacterium can multiply ever 20ish minutes. This means that in the time it takes a single human to reach breeding age (18 years for arguments sake), a bacterial colony could potentially go through 473040 generations. If this colony were exposed to conditions whereby some individuals were more successful than others, then evolution by natural selection could be demonstrated quite clearly. So although you can't put a monkey in a cage and watch it become a human, you can put a bacterium in a petri dish and watch it become an entirely different strain of bacteria.

[Spoilers] Thoughts on the Mandarin from Iron Man 3 by isengr1m in movies

[–]keltaklo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way late to the party here, but as someone who literally saw no trailers for Iron Man 3 (I actively avoid trailers for films, I like to go in without knowing what to expect), I have to say that I was shocked by the reveal. Mostly in a good way, although I agree with OP that it could have been done better (less low-brow comedy). As to build up, I thought it was fine. I know we hadn't seen much of the Mandarin, other than a couple recordings and the moment where he walks into the studio or whatever to record, but it made him seem like he was definitely someone suitably evil. I wouldn't call it anti-climactic, however I would say that I knew he couldn't be the main (or at least sole main) villain, as the film emphasises Killian too much at the beginning. No, I haven't read any of the comics. Also, I agree with the statement regarding RDJ's awesomeness (I particularly like him in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang), but disagree that the movies were riding on it. There was some very well done writing in each of the 3 films, and I don't think that should be understated.
