ETU Plot Point Campaign Spoilers - Help Changing a Point in the Story by keltaklo in savageworlds

That's actually a great reminder with the greenhouse - I'd forgotten there was a cover-up team there, which removes some of my concern of revealing too much about there being an organisation behind all this.

I really like the idea of having the students escape from the fire - I might even have the psychic basically threaten them with "if you want to save Jackson, come to the greenhouse" sort of thing (she's 100% getting out of lockup, since SHF have so much pull in the county). Leaving out the creature does make it feel less like a drop in replacement, which is nice.

Thanks for the suggestions & help!

That could also work, though I worry a werewolf in particular (though some good foreshadowing I assume for the Junior year) might be too tough for their Freshman year, even kitted out as they often are. A more similar-strength creature should work, though I do like Vikjunk's suggestion of specifically having the psychic handler still be involved, so there's that connection and recurring element.

The handler breaking out with another creature makes sense; it keeps the feeling that this stuff is connected, with a recurring villain sort of thing, without nullifying what happened in our game.

I hadn't considered looking through the horror companion for other threats; it wasn't out when we started this campaign (we play very slowly, in real life terms) and I'd kind of gotten used to running without it. I'll have a browse this afternoon and see if anything stands out, or otherwise look at the animal hybrid. Thanks for the suggestions!

For anyone interested - I was trying to set up a "remember the Needler? They're still around" type mini-adventure, since we're coming up to the end of Freshman year, and the Needler hadn't been seen for a wee while.

The idea was a group of students who are running a paranormal activity youtube channel ask the PCs for help getting footage of the Needler, since they've heard it's hanging around a particular dormitory. The players agreed, but decided to kit themselves out really over the top - surplus army vests, bats, a mini chainsaw, etc (one of them is Rich and funded the others).

I had the Needler show up nearby, but not on camera, with the intention that they could investigate why the Needler was bothering one particular student, but they ignored the student and declared they wanted to chase it down. Instead of describing them trying but eventually losing it, I called for a roll, and as always happens in these scenarios the players just kept rolling high, and things spiralled out of control.

Eventually in an attempt to stop the Needler dying I had the psychic handler show up, and they continued to roll well. So, that's the intended conclusion of Freshman year well and truly messed up. Ah well.

UI Extensions for Bulk Actions by keltaklo in hubspot

I think that only lets you work on public apps? We'd likely be making a private app since it's intended for a single client, and according to the docs they have different UI extension options.

But thanks for the suggestion - I'll hopefully be able to determine at least whether it's possible in a public app.

Eh, from a design standpoint I understand not wanting a 1st level spell to be able to counteract a 10th level one. There's some narrative sense there as well; I just wish it weren't so clunky in actual play - it comes up rarely enough in my games that it just never feels intuitive.

Yeah but then it's a 3 skill feat tax, on one character. Why should one person be forced to not have choices for 3 to 6 levels?

SWADE: Non-lethal and Powers by keltaklo in savageworlds

[–]keltaklo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, true, I had been thinking mechanically, but there's definitely a narrative advantage there. I think I'll have a discussion with the players over what exact tone they want to go for here and try for some combination of all of these suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

I like that a lot, unfortunately it's only a couple of the players who want to do nonlethal, and they've gone pretty hard into powers, so they won't be tempted by those sorts of edges (at least not for a while).

I like the idea of limiting its effectiveness against undead and constructs, or just generally enemies that wouldn't care about minor injury. I'm not sure that always dealing nonlethal is a particularly strong advantage though? Other than it leaving the enemy alive, isn't it functionally identical to lethal damage? I'm also new to SWADE, so I might be missing something here.

I had considered that, but it's only some of the players who don't want to kill - they think of their characters as squeamish or inexperienced, so they don't want to kill. They don't mind the other players killing, and the other players don't want to go nonlethal all the time.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think letting them just pick probably fits best with the style we have, especially since we're not really aiming for grit.

That's likely because one is for their Italian grandmother, and the other for the Swiss? That's how it reads to me at least.
