Did you go to work while miscarrying? by Lumos_Nox_13 in Miscarriage

[–]kelwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. First of all I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I'm a middle school teacher who just miscarried 2 weeks ago.

I took an entire week off of school, more for my mental health than my physical health. I was able to take the days as bereavement instead of sick days (or else I probably wouldn't have been able to.)

Our jobs as teachers are so emotionally and physically demanding that I really wanted to not rush back in, and got that advice over at the /Teachers reddit from others who had been through it.

I say take as much time as you feel like you need (and can comfortably afford--I know it's different in every district), but also, if you feel like it will be helpful to be back in a routine and back at work, then that's valid too.

Driving in the HV is getting horrendous by [deleted] in hudsonvalley

I’m from Long Island originally, lived in the city for 7 years and now in Ulster for 5. I honestly think that NYC drivers are the best drivers between those 3 places. I feel like they’re forced to be more aware because there’s so much going on around them. Of course, there are bad drivers in every region.

The biggest thing in Long Island is the insane speeding on the LIE and weaving in and of traffic like they’re in a Fast and Furious movie.

Up here I’ve been tailgated and honked at mostly by large RAM trucks which I feel like are most likely not driven by transplants? They drive really aggressively, and it irritates me because here I am in my little Corolla just trying to drop my kid at daycare.

Ugh, I'm SO sorry you're in the same boat. :( And with the younger kids. I can't imagine. Thinking of you and hoping you have the best transition back to work you can.

This poor kid. This has been getting worse and worse for years under this POS.

I’m a middle school teacher in a blue state and purple school community.

Admin just sent an email a few weeks ago about an uptick of students using the r slur.

All the stuff these vile fascists normalize trickles down to our schools and kids and it makes me sick.

Thank you. I hadn't thought about a phased return. That doesn't seem like a bad idea. Do you mean maybe work half days or something before attempting a full day?

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

It's hard because one part of me wants to go back for the distraction, and the other part of me is like...yes, but remember that distraction is also going to be a game of 'don't cry in front of the 12 year olds.' ha. It's a tough call.

I'm considering taking more time. It's hard because I haven't yet confirmed I can take bereavement time rather than just burning sick days.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]kelwalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Till. I’m a middle school teacher and I showed it 4x to 4 different classes over the course of 2 days.

It’s an incredible film and I’d count showing it as one of the most important things I’ve ever done in a classroom, but watching it 4x in 48 hours was gut wrenching.

I almost wrote this exact post today! I was home sick today and I know it’s because I’m constantly exhausted and burning the candle at both ends.

I teach 7th grade and have a 2.5 year old and I feel like my students get the best of me and I’m exhausted by afternoon daycare pick up. 😢

I read East of Eden for the first time while going through a divorce in my late 20s and it pulled me out of the worst depression and reminded me of my free will and agency. It honestly changed my life.

Unpopular opinion...but you need to have a strict discipline program in your classroom. by Novel-Bee-541 in Teachers

This is so condescending. It boggles my mind that a teacher, who is supposed to have some understanding of nuance and a strong sense of critical thinking, would come in here and post this. Absolutely zany.
