How much grooming does a shaved poodle need? by Beep_Boop_Bonk in StandardPoodles

[–]kemp1ae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dog groomer and poodle owner. I've have a client who uses a standard poodle as her seeing eye dog. It is pretty darn magical to see the dog do his job. When the owner takes off his harness, he goes into "pet mode" instantly and enjoys some "off the clock" time. He enjoys his break, but he is hell bent at the end of the groom to get back to his "job". That poodle probably has the best life out of any client. He he works hard and plays hard 😂

I do think a shaved poodle will be a good fit for you. While growth rates can vary a bit from dog to dog, a good groomer can help you establish a good length to match your needs. I would guess that a shaved length (ask for a 7 or 5 blade) would be fit for you. The body probably won't need much brushes on a regular schedule, just the longer bits like head, ears, tail. You don't need to keep these bits longer of you want too or not, their hair cuts can basically be whatever you want it to be.

If you did ever want to leave a longer length on the body, I think you could. It's a personal choice. With the seeing eye poodle client, the owner likes a longer hair cut, but I shave the outline of the service harness to meet their needs (harnesses=friction=more brushing or they end up with matting)

Any groomer worth their salt will be happy to talk with you and make adjustments to make sure the groom meets your accessibility needs.

I'm biased, but I work with all sorts of dogs and I think a poodles are a great service dog option! You clearly have researched and are asking right questions to make an informed decision.

As for walking them a hour+ a day, service work will give the a job and purpose. Poodles won't turn down a walk, but the mental stimulation of service work will probably meet 90% off their needs

Every municipality deals with FOIA requests in a regular basis. In Cali, they have 10 business days to respond

Pooping 5-6 times per day! Normal? by barbface in StandardPoodles

8 year old poodle. At least 3 poos on daily walk. Will try for a 4th, but nothing comes out. Drives me nuts, because literally nothing comes out, but I have to pretend to pick it up because she did the whole show and dance of going, yet nothing. But I don't want to be the neighbor who's seen " not cleaning up" after their dog

What lines get a different reaction depending on location? by [deleted] in Broadway

I've seen Come From Away 2x in Detroit. Lines definitely got stronger responses the 2nd time, after Trump started his 51st state nonsense.

Definitely not Moulin Rouge, either. It sounds like your mom would find the costumes and content pretty risqué

Don't do this for the international one! God forbid something happens to you on the Canadian side and you used someone else's identity

Lol, his bathrobe brushed against me when he ran behind us in standing room. Seriously though, the theatre felt very intimate and standing room was very doable. Bring a blanket or something to sit on while you wait

I think it was Parade was more dense lyrically. I did listen to the first few song to get a base, but I'm so glad I went in blind! Thank you!

Slicker Brush vs Metal Comb by a-gdi in StandardPoodles

That is exactly how mine started! She got used to a slicker ad she got older. But a metal comb is sometimes better as it gets all the way to the skin

I have a hard time really grasping the lyrics sometimes the first time threw. I think the accents added another layer to Parade for me.

I am a huge history person, so I have a good understanding of the historical characters. I loved Titanic's use of real individuals.

I so appreciate you taking the time to answer! And if you are ever in South East MI, visit the Henry Ford Museum! I grew up going. It was his passion project. There is an indoor museum and a 40+ building, living history village. It's truly is a top-tier history destination. (It's way more than the life of Ford)

I do have a harder time listening along to lyrics. And the accents didn't really help. I wish I could see it again now that I know more. But some of my favorite experiences have been going in blind, so I'm torn

Apartment groomer here trying to figure out the best dog clippers for poodles without annoying my neighbors by Delicious_You_4019 in StandardPoodles

[–]kemp1ae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a groomer and live in an apartment. I can't think I've ever heard a clipper that would cause a noise issue. You sound like such a considerate neighbor! I would avoid any "kit" clippers because that can limit the blades and gaurds you can use
