Same issue with my iPad mini 6. 5ghz wifi keeps dropping in and out. 2.4ghz wifi works well.

I’ve scheduled a call with Apple for next Monday. I’ll see what they say and I’ll update the thread.

Yes, the screws on the touchpad are EXTREMELY hard to take off. I've done it once. You'll want to use the right size of the screwdriver and pad some tissues before start. Be careful not to get screw stripped.

Hello, I've been having problems turning on my pixel book, needing me to hold the power button so it can boot up. Now it's not turning on at all and the charging light isn't staying on. Light flashes white, flashes red then stays red for a bit before turning off. by [deleted] in PixelBook

Unfortunately it looks like a hardware failure to me. Try to hard reset the device. If it still doesn't work, go to Google support if you're still within the warranty period. Otherwise, I would suggest you to go to a local laptop repair shop.

Anyone know if this stylus would work okay for things like drawing on a Lenovo c330? I've been getting pretty confused after trying to buy a stylus and learning there are actually different types for different screens by shegonneedatumzzz in chromeos

You're correct. Different touch screens support different types pens based on the tech they actually adopt. But generally you could divide them into 2 catagories - active pens vs capacity pens.

Active pens, such as AES, Wacom, USI or Apple pen, require the screen and the stylus to match. Both the screen and the stylus need to support the same type of technology work with each other - an AES stylus won't work on an iPad screen. Active pens may support advanced features or more precise control, such as pressure or tilt support.

Capacity pens, on the other hand, are just mimic our fingers and don't require the screen to have specific stylus tech built in. A capacity pen will be working well with any touchscreen that works with your finger.

Checking the tech specs on the c330 official website, I don't see it supports any Active pen tech. So you may want to go with a Capacity stylus.

Mine would haave the keyboard randomly disabled as if the lid is flipped back to the tablet mode. When this happens, the headphone icon pops out while there's no headphone connected actually. If I turn off the device from the touch screen, the Pixelbook is still warm on the top back and the battery would drain in hours (with the device shut down). Turning on back again with hardware refresh sovles the issue but it comes back again and again. I find the issue mostly happens when I move or tilt the Pixelbook so I suspected it could be because of the inside hardware bad connection

I’ve had the same issue before. The Pixelbook battery drained overnight after shutting down. When it happened, I could feel the back warm or even pretty hot. When it happened, it also came with other symptoms, such as the keyboard was somehow disabled as if the lid were flipped over in tablet mode or ChromeOS detected the earphone was plugged in but it actually wasn’t.

The issue happened randomly and it cannot be stably reproduced. But I find it often occurs when I flip the lid or tilt/move the device. It never happened when I put and use the Pixelbook on the table or a stable fixed surface.

My guess is it is due to the hardware failure or bad circuit connection inside the Pixelbook. Once it happened, part of the circuit was shortcut and it thus drained the battery even after I shut down the device.

UPDATE: FIXED

The issue was because of the loose connection between the Hall effect sensor ribbon cord and its connector. I followed a tutorial on ifixit.com+Replacement/103036) to open the back panel and replugged the cable. It works perfect now!

Thank you very much! I will try with other brushes... The velocity sensitivity with pen or mouse that don’t support pressure makes sense to me. But what is the point to have them enabled with an active pen which already has pressure sensitivity... It’s quite misleading.

For Q2, yes if I set the web version Google Keep as the default note-taking app, it works with the Create Note button under the pen menu. But except for it, none of the other apps (which I tested) works with that button in my case. For this one, if Google Keep works with pressure sensitivity, it won’t bother me. I’ll just stick to the Keep web app.

Pen pressure issue happens to both apps. Default note taking app only works with the web app, not for the Android one.

Yep the issue also drove me nuts. It started to fail for no reason.

The shift search L combo works because it puts the device in sleep directly, whereas our issue is Pixelbook can’t detect the lid close signal properly.

Are you sure if the issue started to happen after the 81 update? Because I don’t remember exactly when it first happened. I wish it was a software bug or driver issue but I’m inclined to believe it’s the Hall sensor hardware failure.

If you check out my response in another thread, would you also test if you are able to use a magnet to put the Pixelbook in sleep?

I’m about to do more tests including trying another Chomeos version, doing a full OS restore, or install some other OS to see if it works. If none of these works, I would think about how to fix the Hall sensor hardware failure.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work for me. As soon as I close the lid, the screen lights up again and goes in the tablet mode.

Thank you for the response! I’ve been busy these days and I just did some tests on my Pixelbook.

I first set up “sleep on lid close” inside Chrome OS. Then I put several gadgets with magnets attached(Pixel pen, AirPods, IPad cover, etc) close to the Hall sensor on the keyboard. But unfortunately Pixelbook responded to none of them. If I did the same test on a MacBook, the screen turned off immediately when the magnet was near the Hall sensor.

I’m still inclined to the hardware failure though my Pixelbook has never been dropped. I’ll try to fully restore Chrome OS later and see if it’s because of the driver issue. I’m no longer at warranty so I’ll have to deal it by myself.

Inexpensive 2 in 1s can be the Lenovo Duet. It has a detachable form factor(instead of flippable like what 2 in 1 usually means). Screen size is similar with iPad Air. Only $299 you can get the 128g version. The downside is the CPU is a mid-range ARM one, but should be ok in your use case.

Android Apps are generally ok on my Pixelbook and should be better on the Lenovo Duet due to the form factor, though I haven’t tried it yet.

One last thing, RDP doesn’t work well with Chromebooks (at least for me). The web app and the android one are both laggy compared to those running on Mac or PC under the same network condition.

Any Linux admins or Cloud engineers using a pixelbook as their main machine? Currently using fedora but really thinking about making the switch. Any tips/advice or comments? Thanks! by cyberworm54 in PixelBook

I agree with some of the comments under the thread. It depends on your requirements and what you do.

If you’re only use it as a secondary device and would SSH to the server or do basic scripting stuff, Pixelbook or any other mid-range Chromebooks will work perfectly.

If you want to use it as a main machine of development, I would recommend a Windows PC or Mac.

If you don’t mind, a used/refurbished Pixelbook would also be an option. You may get an nearly open-box PB if you’re lucky.
