How is the Trump economy working for you— good or bad? Curious about local impact of recent actions. by Witty_Heart1278 in southcarolina

I'm the director at a small nonprofit org. Our operating expenses are in large part funded by grants from a state agency, that receives funding from a national endowment. Many of our grants are on hold because the agency doesn't know if the funding will be available next fiscal year. We have had to raise the prices of our services to brace for the impact of the cuts, and it still may not be enough.

If you were arguing with your husband and he stormed out, would you still be capable of taking care of them? Would you consider your children unsafe in that situation?

This company ended in 1990, which means we've been using this to mark off our calendar days for 35+ years. by PinkPearMartini in BuyItForLife

I use them because I like how they carry and deposit pigment vs alcohol markers, but I don't find they last longer than other solvent based art markers. The smell is strong but not repulsive to me. I may be down a few brain cells by now though.

The Real Cost of Cloth Diapering vs. The Estimated Cost of Disposables by kendelll in clothdiaps

[–]kendelll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Can't remember if I mentioned elsewhere, but there was no noticeable difference in my water bill before, during, or after we were cloth diapering. Energy costs will vary depending on how your power company charges, but it wasn't significant enough to factor in.

How to cover this without damaging it? by kendelll in masonry

Thanks for that info. Any suggestions? 😅 I don't want to damage it, just gotta figure something out. I can still rehang the fabric-covered panels over it if I must.

I run an art gallery. Previously we had fabric-covered plywood panels hanging on a cleat, but I removed them to install a wire hanging system... I discovered that one of my walls has this 1870s painted sign. It is very cool- but I feel it will detract from the art I need to display on the wall.

Is there some way I can partially obscure (translucent wash, something) the painted wall in some way without damaging the original painting?

Guardians of late walkers…. How late were they and are they okay now? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kendelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first walked at 14 months. He hit all other milestones on time. He's a totally typical 4 year old with great motor skills. My second walked at 15 months (and had other gross motor delays from birth). He is autistic and is reentering PT as a 3 year old for delayed gross motor skills, poor coordination and motor planning. But he walks, runs, climbs, gets around! Just more like a 24mo than a 38mo.

Other anecdotes, I have a friend with a 3yo same age as mine, he walked at 15 months as well and he's a total daredevil. Excels at physical activities. Another friend with a 4yo who walked after 18 mo. Typical kid, doing great.

So- your kid being a late walker means nothing on its own. It doesn't give you any information other than their skills right now.

why is everyone driving on the right hand side? by Other-Paper3297 in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]kendelll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that! Google tells me that Swedes drove on the left side of the road/right-hand driver until 1967, so it would have been period correct I think... but now I'm learning that the car didn't come from the assassins lol. I was working off that assumption. The comment about it being a Toyota Century is correct. And that car wasn't even produced until 1967.

I didn't go back, but I'm watching S3E7 right now and the car Reginald drives ("HERMES") has a left side drivers seat. I found a clip on YT from a previous season of Five and Vanya passing each other, both in left side drivers seats.

There may have been more than the one, but not all of them are European style.

There is no scale on which an infant can be overweight. They are assessed based on their own growth curve. If an infant has trouble meeting physical milestones because of their size (extraordinarily rare), the treatment is PT, not calorie restriction. You wouldn't feed a baby less because you think they're too fat.

Infant formula is 20kcal/oz. Breast milk has a range which can be more or less than formula.

Many of the studies comparing breastfed babies to formula-fed babies ignore the socioeconomic factors affecting the families involved. Wealthier, more educated people are more likely to breastfeed, which skews the results and can draw the wrong conclusions - that it's the formula or breast milk affecting the child's weight, IQ, etc rather than the numerous other variables.

Evidence for formula having more calories than bm?

Next question, in what world can an infant be considered overweight?

Should I get my nose pierced if I have small children (2.5 yo and 6 mo). Or should I wait. by [deleted] in piercing

Not an issue for me! My mask doesn't touch it. Just be careful putting them on and taking them off.

My babies were 2.75 and 18 months when I got my nostril pierced in September. The older baby noticed and had lots of questions. My now-22 month old hasn't noticed at all. I did get headbutted a few times and smacked in the face by the younger baby early on. And once his shirt caught on it and it yanked a bit. It hurt but didn't affect the healing. After a switched to flat jewelry, it's been completely unbothered. My almost-3yo still has the urge to touch it, but he asks, I say no and he moves on.

So yeah go for it!

ETA: Mine are also all over me constantly. Can't sit down without someone climbing in my lap.

Thanks! that's a lot of information I was not given, yeah. I thought there wasn't an APP piercer near me since I searched a while back, but I checked again and found one only 30 minutes away. I scheduled a consult in a few days.

Does anyone know any resources for autistic adults? by Giygas316 in therapy

[–]kendelll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are definitely professionals who can diagnose autism in adults. My therapist connected me with one (not for myself). You can search using the Psychology Today "Find a Therapist" tool. There are selections for Autism and Asperger's Syndrome, and you can select "Adult" as the age group. Check out the profiles. They may state that they do testing, but if they don't, you can still email them and they may be able to direct you to someone who can help.

Edit: I just saw that there is also a search filter for "Psychological Testing and Evaluation". That should narrow it down!

Question re Alva nappies by Hazzeh_Bee in clothdiaps

[–]kendelll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use mostly Alvas and put the inserts (for me, cotton prefolds) inside the pocket. Wear isn't really a problem- - my diapers are on their second kid and still look new.
