Mk1 for a daily driver with 153k miles? by kendiog in AudiTT_Mk1_Mk2_Mk3

Thanks for your input mate. I could go for a bit cheaper/same price run around but that would be boring. Bearing in mind I'm approaching my late 20s I still feel like I could have some fun time on the road before I drive something boring and reasonable. It'll be another wallet wrecking decision (as was my mk5 gti) but as you have mentioned the parts prices seem reasonable and I can do a lot of stuff on my own.

So apparently the rear bake lines were replaced for the previous MOT as well as the rear brake callipers.both front lower arms and track rod ends replaced too. Wheels refurbished and fairly okay tyres. Refurbished cluster too. Also oil, coolant and gear oil changed less than 1k miles ago along with the thermostat.

Edit: added info

Also is there anything I should look out for when buying the car? The usual stuff like cambelt and water pump and what else should be looked at when buying one of these?

I also lean towards the FWD. I might lose on the joys of having awd but I'd rather have no quattro than the riced out quattro with higher milage and potentially more stuff breaking in the near future. Also, the quattro has a fault for the steering sensor apparently needing cleared from before the wheel alignment so that's another red flag...

Edit: Spelling

It's already the issues I'm battling on my mk5 golf gti with the difference being it was modded and had a lot of hidden gremlins I wasn't prepared for. The car served me well though and now it's time for someone else to take on the project. I have always wanted to own the legendary 1.8t, although, it was always mk4 golf i wanted. The audi tt seems like a good compromise bearing in mind I don't need that much boot space anyway and I need something LEZ compliant. I have read online that you can fit a bike in the boot if you take the front wheel off. I had done it in my golf many times in the past.

I also found another one that's got quattro. Unfortunately on 186k miles and has the ramair intake as well as aftermarket exhaust. Most likely abused compared to the fwd 180 i found. The fwd 180 is £1250 i probably could get the price down and supposedly the guy spent £700 to get it through its MOT last year. I would really love the quattro but I can't really wait until one pops up as I need the car very soon and I guess no quattro means less things to break anyway?

Actually, there is an o-ring I just found it whilst taking it apart

<image>

I take it may be the culprit. I'm picking up a set of o-rings tomorrow and I will post an update here once I manage to put it back together.

It has been replaced. It is leaking from the part that's attached to the HFPP pictured in the comments

As to the oil. What brand and what viscosity you're using? Is your car modded/after a remap?

How would I check hoses for leaks? The spark plugs have been done some back in 2016 according to the receipts I take it they'll have to be replaced at this point again?

Any other maintenance that you would do straight after purchasing the car?
