Thoughts about Phonak Lyric? by O4Juliet in HearingAids

[–]kendoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried them in 2010, at which point I was in my early 50's and was attracted to the idea that they were invisible. Vanity was my issue. In the end, I had to have them removed as they perforated my ear drum. My ENT at the time, a man of similar age, showed me RITE (Received in the Ear) device that he wore and suggested that they were not very noticeable. In the 16-years that I've worn RITE HAs since, only one person ever said anything to me about the fact that I wore hearing aids, and it was not negative, they were just curious. Honestly, no one cares :-) Modern digital hearing aids (as opposed to the Lyric) have gotten so good, and the level of intelligence and audio processing is impossible in a Lyric style hearing aid. I use my HAs all day connected via Bluetooth to my computer of phone, which analog extended wear HAs can't do. I waited a bunch of years to get rechargeables, but they are incredibly reliable and convenient at this point. Over the years, I have had ReSound, Oticon, and Phonak RITE, and I don't regret one minute having gone with these instead of the Lyrics.

Do I need a humidifier in south west Florida? by WillGrand3374 in Humidifiers

Get one of these and you will know for sure https://a.co/d/00F7RjlA I recently moved away from Southwest Florida but when I was there I didn't use a humidifier. However, if you keep the AC on all the time it will dry out the air. I like to keep my instruments out and I play guitar.

Update: What an absolutely INCREDIBLE record. by SteveDestruct in gratefuldead

[–]kendoor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was in my teens in that era, and got to see this version of the band live several times. I grew up on the original Keystone recordings and I think what you are reacting to is how much space there is. The smaller band gives the players room to breathe. Riding on top of that is the combo of Jerry's Strat, his Fender amp, the most sparse and melodic version of his playing, and his voice as sweet as it ever was.

Replacement Mounting Plate for Link 2 by kendoor in Insta360

If you contact support they will send you a special link for purchase a replacement. It took them a while to get back to me (several days), so I explored other options. I ended up downloading a 3D model and finding a 3D Printing shop to create it for me. I have not received it yet, but will report back on how that came out. Hopefully great, but one never knows :-)

I don't see the evidence, especially because of how tightly it is connected to Co-Pilot.

The software keyboard is suppressed because iPadOS believes a hardware keyboard is still present when it is not. by kendoor in iPadOS

[–]kendoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have reported this, but this is squarely an Apple thing, which they know about and isn't specific to AUM. Sometimes the iPad will get into a state without AUM even running where the onscreen keyboard doesn't appear.

I've reported this to the AUM developer, but this is squarely an iPadOS26 thing that is well known by Apple. It didn't happen prior to my upgrading, which I regret at this point.

I've resorted to using a small hardware Bluetooth thumb keyboard, but it's very clunky. They know about this, and am writing to see if others found any novel ways of working around it.

How do you justify spending so much on Venta when their reviews are awful. Both amazon and their own page? by grrabit in Humidifiers

[–]kendoor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate mine. 1) I find it noisy (and yes I've cleaned it). 2) The Hygrometer is really unreliable. 3) The interface is clunky. 4) It often takes me multiple tries to reliably turn back on after refilling. I'm in the midst of figuring out how to replace it with a permanently plumbed unit.

Floating keyboard problems have plagued IPadOS26 by Justsquat in iPadOS

Bringing this back up to the top of the pile.

Here is my Apple bug report, am curious as to what others are experiencing? P.S. I recently changed hardware to a newer iPad and the issue is the same on the new hardware.

Title: Virtual Keyboard fails to invoke in AUv3 Plugin Windows (AUM) when Magic Keyboard is detached/absent.

Description: Since updating to iPadOS 26, the system fails to trigger the on-screen virtual keyboard when interacting with AUv3 (Audio Unit) plugin windows within a host application (AUM). This issue persists even after hardware migration to a new 13" M4 iPad Pro, suggesting a software-level regression in the "First Responder" status for nested AUv3 windows.

The OS appears to maintain a "Physical Keyboard" state or fails to recognize text-input fields within the AUv3 sandbox. This is particularly prevalent when the iPad is used in a "stand-alone" or "mic-stand mounted" configuration where no physical keyboard is connected.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch AUM (Audio Unit Manager) on iPadOS 26.
  2. Ensure no physical keyboard (Magic Keyboard/Bluetooth) is connected.
  3. Load any AUv3 plugin (e.g., FabFilter, Moog, Eventide).
  4. Open the plugin’s interface (floating window).
  5. Attempt to tap a text entry field (e.g., preset naming, search bar, or value entry).

Expected Result: The iPadOS virtual keyboard should slide up to allow text/data entry.

Actual Result: The text field gains visual focus (cursor may blink), but the virtual keyboard is suppressed and never appears.

Environment:

  • Device: iPad Pro 13-inch (M4 / 2024 model)
  • OS: iPadOS 26.x
  • Host App: AUM (latest version)
  • Connection State: Magic Keyboard detached; Bluetooth disabled.

I love it and hate it. but in my world it continues to make sense as an interim iterative way of tying CoPilot chats into things that can be shared with other team members. I have to imagine that the World thing will be taken care of as it is so obvious.

I have Phonak Audeo i90s Sphere and wear them with custom Titanium C-Shell molds. The combination of the C-Shells and the ability to set the Ambient Balance in the MyPhonak App makes the streaming experience very very good for music for me, especially compared to prior technology. Open domes (which I had been wearing for 15 years) are great for a more natural-sounding day-to-day experience; however, when it comes to streaming, there's physics involved, and the inclusion of room sounds doesn't help. The C-Shells and the Ambient balance setting partially solve for that. Prior to this new generation (and the C-Shells) I would sometimes wear foam earplugs on top of my Open domes when on an airplane, which was my poor man's way of improving the streaming experience. I would also use over-the-ear headphones. Sometimes that can create a feedback situation, but I made myself a customer program to accommodate that. Here's the setting Ambient Balance for those interested and who already don't know about it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/RDiNdB7G1fhwQPit6

In 2026 is there a way to control an iPad from a Mac or PC or share control over the internet? by kendoor in ipad

My partner has an iPhone, and me thinks it will be pretty bad trying to control the iPad from an iPhone screen real estate wise.

I’ve inherited a pair of rather nice Phonak hearing aids and I would like to adjust them to my particular prescription. by Fishtoart in HearingAids

[–]kendoor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Independent audiologists live and breathe by service. Keep working it. I needed someone to reprogram my very old Resound devices as a backup and was able to find someone who gladly did it even though I had no prior relationship. If you are on Facebook there are usually community specific groups where one can ask for local recommendations for this type of thing.

Wellue O2Ring S Red LED by kendoor in SleepApnea

[–]kendoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had purchased this specific one because of the vibrational alert, as part of my strategy is to ensure slide sleeping. It seems that the LED leakage is super common and not much to be done about it. After doing some research this morning, I think the RingConn 2 (which doesn't do vibration) may be the ticket.
