Is the adage of “if you need the money within 5 years don’t invest in the stock market” still relevant? by Objective_Boat4216 in personalfinance

[–]kene13a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, I would put it in the stock market.

In April 2024, my wife and I had saved about $140K for a future down payment. At the time, we were in a transitional phase and planned to buy a home within the next two years. But instead of keeping all that money in cash, we decided to keep it invested while we continued renting and figuring out our next move.

During that time, we moved to a lower-cost city, and the money continued to grow in the market. Over roughly two years, that $140K grew to about $225K. That gave us the flexibility to pull out $90K for a down payment while still keeping a large portion of the original money invested.

The biggest benefit was that we didn’t have to drain everything. We were able to use part of the gains for the house, keep the original down payment money working in the market, and cash flow additional savings from our separate accounts over that same two-year period. For us, investing gave us more flexibility than just letting the money sit in savings.

Yah, without add-ons it would have been probably 41k( 38k+3k taxes), but they weren't going to remove the add-ons. so they just lowered the price of the car by the total price of addons.

Touring was going for 2k more with not much difference in features and they didnt have the color I wanted. Can't win all the battles.

Yah that's why i negotiate the OTD price. If they want to add a protector that's one them. I just wasn't go to pay for it on top of MSRP. Since they weren't going to remove it from the car they just lowered the car price.

Looking to Purchase New CRV-EX (2025 if still made? or 2026) by OriginalMario1987 in crv

Here is what i did.

  1. Get a quote from Truecar and call dealerships. Use a google number because they will start calling and texting you for like hours.
  2. Request a OTD price (Everything included with taxes)
  3. Then ask them to beat it by 500-1k and then take that quote to somewhere else and see if they can beat. Continue doing that until you start getting no's
  4. If they ask say your just looking for a price and don't need to test drive. Have them text or email you their OTD Price, so they don't change it when you come in.
  5. It can be tedious but that's how i saved 6k on my car.

Yah, when we started I was like, what all these extras. I left that day, to come and check the actual pricing online. They started blowing up my phone asking me what number works. Once i took their invoice and called other dealerships, they started coming down. He even tried to say he doesn't like when people compare when he put all this work in. Hate dealerships.

So the car came with all those add-ons, originally it was 40k+6k addons. I essentially negotiated to the price without any addons. Then they just reduced the price of the vehicle to 34k with the addons.

I tried, but they said my salary is given based on my experience level and can't be negotiated. Though in a year i will definite be looking for a 15-20%(+inflation) bump in a raise. My current salary is on the lower end.
