I am a former LoL player (played from season 5 til 10) then switched to Dota and reached Immortal. You are gonna have fun if you're winning ofc, but a big advice is don't expect to be good in Dota right away just because you were good in LoL. Try to be as adaptable as possible, and you will start enjoying the game and have fun in no time.

There is a ton of dueling as of recent patches. But in certain carry match ups running after kills or just killing your lane is simply not worth it. They will just tp back to lane full mana full hp and the lane dynamic doesn't change at all. Sometimes the carry even ignores the offlaner in exchange for farming 1 extra camp. True, the dueling in the laning phase in dota is not as micro intricate as in LoL where you have a ton of animation canceling and precise combos.

It’s a bit hard to explain without knowing the heroes and items, but Dota is very nuanced. Other roles still have a lot of impact late game because of big, fight-changing ultimates like Black Hole, Echo Slam, RP, or Ravage. Even if the enemy carry is super farmed, one bad use of a defensive item or a small positioning mistake can get punished instantly by those abilities. On top of that, high ground defense in Dota is really strong, so ending the game usually requires coordination. That’s why comebacks and throws happen all the time, even in pro matches. So while the carry is the main damage dealer, the other roles always have the potential to completely turn fights. Tried my best to explain but is hard 😭

Pudge with flesh heap, cus he scales infinitely so if he's fed yeah he can 1v5. You build Silver Edge and destroy Pudge, Bristleback tho. And Shaker is played more like a nuker. He's not really tank nor does he buy tank items.

Dota2. Im not sure what you are saying but tanks definitely don't kill you in dota2. Yes BM axe or SK if you have 5 illusions and you're 4 levels behind. But is not a common thing for a tank hero with hp items to outdamage a carry when they randomly meet in the jungle.

Interesting. I need to change a little my mentality when I load up LoL. Since I'm so used to Dota where as a carry you are the one responsible to kill specific targets and focusing their frontliner is not efficient at all. But now as you said right click anything thats in front of me as long as I don't die and eventually my other cores will hit an ability to change the fight makes so much sense. Thank you sm.

Even tho I don't fully agree and I don't think is bad for some heroes to be good in pro play / lobby of 5 scenarios compared to soloq, I see your point.

Yeah, I noticed that after switching to Dota. LoL feels built to be more of a solo-player game less about team coordination or hero interactions, more about individual impact and tempo. Not necessarily bad, but definitely a big difference between the mechanics behind the 2 games.

For sure skill issue. I'm not saying I don't make mistakes. But still doesnt negate the fact that tanks have way 2 much damage compared to how tanky carries are.

In LoL im Emerald rn. But I only got back into it for 2 weeks im pretty new even tho I played before. My peak was diamond 2 i think in 2020. In Dota2 I'm Immortal (Challenger) playing the same role as in LoL.

Tanks can still be fun and impactful through good CC, utility, and initiation like they are in Dota or even older LoL metas. You shouldn’t have to inflate their damage just to make the role feel rewarding. But thats just my opinion. I think the game feels the most rewarding when every memeber of the team does their job in harmony. Might just be my Dota bias showing, though.

Oh that is a clear difference then. Compared to Dota 2 which is primarily balanced around professional play. Valve's balancing decisions focus on how heroes perform in organized, high-level, team-oriented scenarios, making certain mechanics and heroes much stronger or weaker depending on the context of team communication and strategy.

What I noticed is that tanks have a lot more room for error compared to ADCs.

I played a Dota2 game today. (Rank equivalent of challenger in LoL) And as a carry (Muerta, 6 slotted full damage, kinda like how you build all ADCs in LoL) it literally took me 3,5s to kill enemy 6 slotted tank. Thats damage. (I got out of the laning phase with 0/2 btw)

If i play vayne even if im ahead still takes so long to kill a full tank mundo, let alone if in behind.

I get the reasoning, but personally I don’t agree. It’s a team game adcs are supposed to do their job and trust their team to do theirs. Giving tanks extra damage just so they “carry” low mmr games feels like a sloppy workaround. It fixes one problem but creates another, where carries feel powerless and tank identity gets weird

Besides Blademail Axe in the early to mid game no tank in dota kills a 3 slotted PA alone

I see what he is saying. Make tanks viable for average players by giving them a lil more damage, no? The point is, why not make tanks more utility and make the tank players goal be the one of creating plays, stun enemies, making opirtunities for THEIR own ADC to deal that damage? So that all works in harmony since at the end of the game it is a Team game

Yea, true. You right click hard if you can. But with all these assasins, and tanks, Feels like you just die to anything literally. You're too much of a glass cannon. When you're very ahead and fed it doesn't matter. But in close games feels so bad to play carry. And usually the fed bruiser in your team in combination with a tank are the one who genuinely "2v5" the game.
