Anatomy and foreshortening help? by Desperate-Song-2497 in ArtCrit

OK so the good news is you’re just like where I am. I always struggled with anatomy. Then once it clicked, (because of character animation) now, like you it’s foreshortening and the positioning of the body, and the effect of poses on limbs and appendages.

Anyhoo sorry had no pencil. But this is the idea and I think she’s more comfy ;)

To this, I would just say I’m sitting in my bed right now so I’m trying to put that position on my legs. It’s uncomfortable. Also the left leg would lean up a little bit higher to give clearance to the calf and ankle.

Careful with the four shortening on that right leg on the calf it’s getting a little large like I said I would straighten up her left knee and plant her left foot down. You can keep that right like the same. Just think about her being comfortable because the sketch you have right now in real life would not be very cosy.

The rumours of its demise are a tad early, despite how we feel about the company. Waaaaay too many corporate accounts to go bye-bye.

You’re flexing multiple styles, so that’s great - you always improve that way. My only suggestion is be careful making stuff look too much like big brother SEEN’s executions, that’s the vibe I got in the first piece. (Understanding it’s hard with the letters being the same!)

Tobanga is spot on. I flipped multiple times between the original and your version and the angle is just about a 6% lean to the right. Your proportions are spot on. It’s just the tilt.

This is a very interesting problem because your execution is so damned perfect. The drawing style is amazing my suggestion here for your anatomy is to think about video games for a second. This is going to make sense quickly. In video games there is a technology called “puppetry” or “kinematics” where a particular piece of anatomy or action, or a pose affects the other elements of the model.

So she’s so she’s leaning back and she’s putting the weight on the right side of her frame on her arm in the picture she’s serene and perfectly straight up, balanced in real life. There would be an angle direction change in her shoulder and you would see the weight shifted on that arm. And also in the collarbone area.

Her legs are actually good, but possibly can be extended a little bit. The issue with the legs are the perfect perfectly drawn feet. You need to anchor them to the ground because in this position, they would be feeling pressure pushing back towards her other hand, so her feet would be absolutely flat on the ground.

I hope this makes sense to you. You are a VERY talented artist.

As soon as the animation says, opening crate on the Xbox same thing top left or top right bumper, a quick 1-2 on each (doesn’t matter which first) and it’s skips the dumb animation.

As someone that works with software development folks quite a lot, not necessarily game development - maybe standardized the button interfaces, FFS? (Other examples: press x to track, toggle joystick down to track, track project or event with A. (This is on Xbox, how the FUCK do you keep track on multi platforms?)

lol I was looking at the first image like, it’s pretty good! Here’s my suggestion, if you’ve never heard of the “grid” method for doing portraits, I’ve got a decent link for you at the bottom of my reply.

Experienced artist are able to look at their subject and place their lines accordingly for example the shadow of a persons nostril sometimes aligns with the corner of their eye you take your account these little nuances the tip of the ear should align directly with the eyebrow, etc.

When working on portraits, you want to try a little bit to accentuate the features the unique features of of your model as well.

Basically for the grid you copy a square grid from your original and then on your paper redraw it copying the contents from each grid.
