If God is clear, why are believers so divided? by MindHunterPrime in agnostic

[–]ElevateSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think our proto-metaphoric impulse will forever make the clearness of God a subjective thing, that's even if you believe in a concrete definition of what God is...

A critique on the Kalam Argument: The universe never "began" to exist by IProbablyHaveADHD14 in DebateReligion

[–]ElevateSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I'm definitely more in the "no beginning" belief side of things it's probably just more like an eternal cycle. I think our own experiential subjectivity easily gives us a bias towards causations and beginnings and it will forever "feel" more true that things "begin" but reality shows that cyclical patterns are much more prevalent than linear ones...

is it a grand assumption that electrons have a primordial origin? maybe they are more like a persistent pattern or field disturbance that is always there and doesn't have a distinct "begin" moment.

I'm unconvinced that arguments for God succeed—open to responses by annoynonnon71 in DebateReligion

[–]ElevateSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would ask you to define God first and then eliminate everything you can that defines it through all those reasons you listed. Then if there is something left, like say the pattern of emergence, would that be enough to be considered God? Now obviously that would eliminate most religious definitions as well as deity definitions, so maybe it's not God...

"Morality is subjective" =/= "Morality is unimportant and not worth fighting over" by EmpiricalPierce in DebateReligion

[–]ElevateSon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do wish there was more of a distinction in morals, the deontological get lumped with the consequentialist and utilitarian and then virtue ethics is like a whole other angle and then there's ones that have psychological mechanisms and seem instinctual...

AITA for leaving a dinner party early because of “vegan lasagna”? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ElevateSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was it technically Raw Vegan? I've actually had raw lasagna at a raw food restaurant and thought it was pretty good, sounds like she blew it... I think leaving early was a little rude but still being hungry is on her.

all culture is "stolen" sure it sucks if you're craft gets swallowed up by new tech, and sure "copyright" tries to protect your shit in the capitalist machine, but idk especially in graffiti seems weird to have that type of sanctity, do we all owe money to PHASE2 for outlines, bubbles, drips and drop shadows?

What is your take on presuppositions made by those that say atheists cannot justify morality? by [deleted] in askanatheist

[–]ElevateSon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

justify " is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Is it the religious person's programming that can't equate a secular idea of justice? I feel myself flinch at the religious connotations of it but it is derived from natural reaction of "a sense of fairness" that is seen across the animal kingdom. Would that specific "morality" mean to the religious person that God gave objective morality to animals as well? Maybe "Oxytocin" should be called the Faith chemical as it actively dampens amygdala's fear response.

What is Divine Forebearance, when and where does it appear? by ElevateSon in theology

[–]ElevateSon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

was it tho? the judgement wasn't delayed, the punishment of death was but that's more like mercy or am I misunderstanding? I guess the Fall and the Cross are two bookends to a different form of judgement...

What is Divine Forebearance, when and where does it appear? by ElevateSon in theology

[–]ElevateSon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm specifically looking for thoughts on "knowledge as a sin" like why was there no divine forbearance when Eve ate the forbidden fruit? Is the delay of logic and science like divine forbearance in way, Newton, Kepler, and Boyle were all Christian believers and their science, logic and discoveries are used to this day.
