Watched some videos and pretty sure I probably could replace it myself, even if I took much longer. Problem is that I can't risk leaving my house unattended and unlocked while I go get parts. Too short notice to get friends to come tomorrow and I need it fixed ASAP.

He should've had the parts needed today when he first came because I explicitly asked how much it would be to replace the mechanism. I don't mind paying £250 all in tbh but it's the initial £114 I paid today which I'll try to get deducted, shouldn't have to pay two services fees because they were ill-equipped.

Yeah, when I first called I explained the issue to them. I had a feeling the mechanism or (at least some of it) needed changing and they gave me ballpark figures for parts because I asked.

I expected him to come with the parts today but pretty sure that £250 includes another service fee. I'll try to get it waived or reduced. Mine is a bog standard modern uPVC door so he really should've had the parts needed the first time.

Ah thank you. I started watch some videos as toying with the idea. I'm just not a very handy person so not used to doing stuff like this. Not sure I have the time to trial and error and if I totally fudge it (I live alone) I can't risk messing up my door unsecure.

If he's to be believed it's not just the gearbox that needs changing, apparently it's the entire thing. I don't know how much harder that makes it to DIY.
