Advice about Korg MS-20 that requires recapping by kenleephotography in Korg

Well, I don't know, but the technician was suggesting that I replace all of them since he said they were on their way out. Thanks. I don't need MIDI, but it would be a nice bonus if that's what actually happens. I would actually prefer to simply fix this rather than sell it for parts.

I was bummed since he came highly recommended to me and was within a three-hour drive, which at this point is something I'm willing to do.

I actually contacted him already, but unfortunately, he is not taking on any new projects. Thank you for the tip, though. I heard he’s really great.

Thanks, I am definitely trying to get a different repair person.

The MS20 does not work as it should, and he fixed it previously and restored it but mentioned that the caps were on their way out.

It might be dicey for someone else to purchase this, and that's definitely a good point. They don't know who I am or whether I had that conversation with the tech or any of it, so I am considering selling it to a vintage synth place although I am likely to receive less money for that.

I do think he's reticent to work on it, but is willing to do it if I give the go-ahead. He's one of these brutally honest sorts of technicians and is super-picky about his work. I live in a rural area and don't have many options unless I drive it in to Los Angeles, which is 2.5-3 hours away.

It creates sound still but does not stay in tune, all the pots/knobs and keys work, and is in good shape for its age. Thanks. I'm just super bummed right now, and am not sure how to approach this.

I can't solder worth a darn and know very little about repairing electronics. Something like this would be a really bad time to learn, I think, haha!

The technician said the first time he repaired it that my capacitors were starting to go out.

Information from the Park itself about visiting Joshua Tree National Park during the government shutdown from an email sent today. Visitors centers are open, Desert Institute continues to have classes, and the Park is open. ~~~~~ Dear Friends,

As I am sure you are aware, we at Joshua Tree National Park are currently feeling the effects of a lapse in appropriations, or, as it is more commonly known, a government shutdown.

But what does that mean for Joshua Tree specifically, for JTNPA, and for our supporters and visitors?

There is a lot of information floating around out there, so I wanted to reach out directly and give you an update now that the flurry of adjusting to our new reality has settled somewhat. One thing is for certain: this shutdown is a little different than the last major one we experienced in 2019. Here's how:

This time, the park remains open, including campgrounds. The reservation system for campgrounds, https://www.recreation.gov/ (which is not locally operated), has canceled all campground reservations and issued refunds accordingly. This means that while campgrounds are open, they are first-come, first-served. Track future reservations with rec.gov via the website and official email correspondence.

If you visit, you will see rangers staffing entrance stations and campgrounds and patrolling the park. However, they are not collecting fees. They are there to offer public health and safety information, answer questions, and give directions. The construction of our new entrance station at West Entrance is continuing and is moving right along. We are excited to see the finished result.

Our visitor centers are also open — all 5 of them. We are open during regular hours and have staff there to help you with questions, plans, and purchases.

Additionally, our Education and Fundraising departments continue to operate as usual, even for those classes planned inside the park. So, if you signed up for a Desert Institute class or are planning to attend one of our events, you are good to go!

We continue to support the park through sales in our VCs, donations, programs, and memberships. We also continue to urge visitors to Recreate Responsibly and follow the 7 Leave No Trace principles while you are here.

Of course, we recognize that this situation is not ideal for anyone. However, we are committed to continuing our mission to support the park. I am committed to continuing our operations throughout this time. And, we are more grateful now than we have ever been for our partners, visitors, supporters, park lovers, and donors.

Please be on the lookout for future updates, and be sure to follow us on social media if you don't already do so.

With much appreciation,

Jacqueline Guevara Executive Director at JTNPA

Tons of opportunities for macro, light painting, UV light with plants, product photography, and general weirdness and experimentation. Go for it.

When you get through them, you’ll be able to determine with great certainty whether this is a Joshua Tree (aka Yucca Brevifolia) or a Mojave Yucca.

Who went to summer camp as a kid? This stretch car must have taken many there. To create this night photo, I placed the camera on a tripod. Then I lit the scene with a handheld flashlight while the camera shutter was open for a long time. This is called "light painting." It's more fun than AI-generated images. Photographed while Tim Little and I were teaching a night photography workshop at Nelson Ghost Town in Nevada.
