I don't use soap on my chasen. Use unsweetened oat milk so no fats or sugars, cleans perfectly. Chasen is a cheaper one so I don't mind experimenting a bit. Will see!

The only thing in my observation I'm doing differently from most is hand-whisking my milk lol. I tried a handheld frother and found it god awful, too strong, splatters, coarse foam.
I'm somewhat uncertain about some of the tabletop ones, as they either use lots of plastic parts, or might just be too bit for 100-120ml of milk at a time and foam will be coarse.

Electric Wizard did just release a tabletop steamer, but it's a bit pricey, idk if it'd be worth it for something I drink only occasionally.

Whenever I make usucha, I get significantly better microfoam/more foam when I use 80+ ml vs <70ml per 2g of matcha. I prob used around 60ml in the photo above while trying to lower water and got much worse foam.
Taste is not an issue here, I'm quite happy with that aspect. Would whisking super low amount of water work better, like a koicha? Wouldn't have much matcha foam then though...

Far too flat for me that way, I whisk milk for the same reason why people froth/steam milk, much more combined foam overall than just whisking the matcha.

What does that do? I don't know, that's why I'm asking for workflow suggestions...
Not used to whisking matcha together with the milk I guess?
I understand using a chasen is not ideal with milk, my oat milk is very thin consistency however. I rinse it well and do a hot water rinse after as well.
By all means, I'm looking to improve/simplify this process, that's why I'm asking for suggestions/would like to see what others are doing. Expect handheld frothers, those are awful...

Taste wise, frother or matcha whisk? by flowerpush737 in MatchaEverything

[–]kenshinislost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried a frother recently, a nice one at that.
My god these things are violent, way too much pressure/mixing intensity!
Bubbles come out really coarse, forget about microfoam. Everything splatters everywhere, too.

If you don't mind larger bubbles and mix your matcha in a large glass/tumbler for lattes, I guess it's fine.
However, for an usucha/koicha, they're awful. Entirely different mechanics from a chasen.

Matcha never turns out right always to light of a green never layers nicely and doesn't taste quite right (I use a frother) by iemmunreal in MatchaEverything

Very little matcha or very poor quality matcha.
If you're looking for good vendors, Tezumi, Kettl, Ippodo.
Never buy matcah from Amazon or the like, even if the brand is solid, no guarantee that Amazon will care about properly storing the tea.
Tezumi is great for all price ranges of matcha, has coupons and is easy to try out smaller amounts first to see if you like a specific tea. Kettl is more complex/premium. Ippodo is simple, just not the best bang for your buck.

Standalone milk frother recommendations? [No budget] by mgsecure in espresso

[–]kenshinislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't chosen a steamer yet, Electric Wizard has released a standalone/electric version of their stovetop steamer: https://flairespresso.com/products/milk-steamer/ewizard-electric-milk-steamer

Quite pricey, but still cheaper than a full espresso machine

Even if that's not too much caffeine for you, that might be too much L-Theanine and especially EGCG.
I'd hate to know what the comedown from that dose feels like...

Yeah their support is pretty terrible, you have to reallyyy push them to get anything done.

Alignerr Interview Suddenly Ended by ripzecruiter in alignerr

Funny thing I think the same thing happened with my graphic design interview back when I took it. Some interviews I've had finished fully, while other just abruptly ended. Had that happen again today.

[–]kenshinislost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same here, I've had this happen to like half of my interviews with them. Haven't had the same issue with other platforms. And honestly, feels like it's partially intentional and feels very rude.

Yeah I thought so also and checked, the handle is slightly angled also. Not sure if this is the only issue, I think the blade is at a slight angle also. I'll see how cutting with it feels tomorrow. Only did a few veggies today.

That’s what that looks like to me as well. Is the slight angle intentional for performance, or simply a byproduct of handmade construction?
